Since I go to tournaments a fair bit now, I thought I would help everyone out, and start posting with you greats.

Well, woke up Sunday morning, and got dressed and had a bit of breakfast. (loves toast) So, set off from my house at 9.00, went to pick up Andy and Craig, proud members of Team Grimsby and set off for the tournament. Match 1

Right, the pairing’s were called and I found that I was facing a new kid I had never seen before, was a little nervous. He was 11,called Robert. He knew how to play the game, and was a good sport.

Game 1

Gareth: 8000-7000-6700-5900

Robert: 8000-9000-10000-11200-10600-6400-6300-2300-0

This duel was fast. I lost some life points due to Confiscation, then a couple of light damage. I didn’t really draw any monsters I could use in that situation, he gained life points due to a snatch, then in the end a brain control and mobius later sealed the game.

Game 2

Gareth: 8000-5100-4100-3300

Robert: 8000-9000-7900-8400-9900-4200-5700-0

This duel was more annoying and worrying then the first game. Started off with mostly magics, and my trusty Necrovalley. A few snatch steals, dust tornado’s and a lot of cards to increase his lifepoints, it ended with two Gravekeeper assailants and a Gravekeeper spy direct attack to finish the game.

Match 2

Well after a more or less comfortable win in the 1st round, it was time for round two. A few good guys got through like I expected, and so was waiting for the next guy. To my surprise, I was paired up against the judges youngest son, Billy, who was only seven.

Game 1

Gareth: 8000-9000-8200-9200-10200-11200

Billy: 8000-6300-5500-2800-1200-900-700-0

This duel was a little hard to remember, it was slow I will tell you that. He had never seen or dueled against a gravekeeper deck before, so I had to explain everything I did, and telling a seven year old this was hard to do. In the end, after the judge (AkA his dad) stepped in, the dueled continued, after a snatch steal by him, I dropped his life points down to 0.

Game 2

Gareth: 8000

Billy: 8000-0

Well, what can I say about this duel. Nothing, didn’t happen. After the 1st game, Billy didn’t want to play again, so I won the match.

After this round, I had a little time to spare. I traded a Dark Necrofear and Dark Ruler Ha Des for a Jinzo. Not bad, since I wasn’t using either of them. By this time the bar next to the room we was using had opened, and so It was time for liquid heaven (ie, pepsi). After this quick break, everyone else had finished and it was time to continue.

Match 3

Well well well. Round 3, and who do I get put against, none other then another kid. I was beginning to get annoyed, as I still hadn’t faced anyone near my age, and there was plenty off them. After this, I found a table and waited for Ashley (who was 11) to come over. He ran a simple deck, mixed in with a few good cards.

Game 1

Gareth: 8000-7000-2900-2100

Ashley: 8000-7200-800

This was a quick duel. I drew a sangan on my 1st draw, he attacked it and I got a assailant. After this, he used brain control, and it ended up with a couple of spear soldiers attacking his scapegoats.

Game 2

Gareth: 8000-7000-6800

Ashley: 8000-6000-500

This game was very similar to the last, though I had confiscation in my opening hand to remove his only monster in his. After that, necrovalley and my chief and assailants nailed him.

After this, there was a slight break so I thought I would test out my deck that I have been working on, my elemental hero deck. I knew someone (Jason), who had also just made a elemental hero deck so I thought that a e-hero deck v e-hero deck. Half way through, the final had to start, but he claimed the win due to him having slightly more lifepoints. Next time I shall show my true strength, after I had gotten something from the judge after the final…

Final

Well, after a undefeated winning streak, I was feeling pretty confident coming into the final. I was finally facing my good friend Andy (those who use the message boards might have seen him post.) Anyway, from past games I have known him to be annoying and use my weakness – burn deck. I was expecting a long and drawn out duel, being it a 1 game win.

Game 1

Gareth: 8000-6200-5400-3800-1700-0

Andy: 8000-6000-5600-3800

This was a nice and freshing game. Not having to explain the rulings was nice, and what was a nice surprise Andy wasn’t using his burn deck, instead a sorta chaos. I didn’t have a necrovalley in opening hand, nor any monsters which hurt, but I did take a direct attack from d.d survivor and he cleared my f/d torrential tribute using heavy storm. Then after a while, I set Two useless spells to try to bluff my way through the turn, and then he attacked with a blade knight at 2000, and another d.d. Survivor.

It was a great day, and after a well dueled final, Andy got his prize – a pack of Dark rev one, and pulled a reflect bounder. He was very happy, as he wasn’t expecting it, and fitted right into his deck.

After everything had finished, and people was going home, I took a look at the judges (David Hanner) newest folder, all the cards he got from Gen Con, and saw he had a Elemental Hero Shining Flare Wingman, ultimate version. I managed to get his for my e hero deck at the cost of cost down, big shield gardna and a ancient gear golem. It was a nice trade.

After this, team Grimsby left louth back to sunny old Grimsby, had some lunch at good old maccies, went back to Andy’s house, dueled some more (me, beating him 3-1), and that was the end of the day.

Props:

Getting the trades in

Getting second

Finding more info about the Up coming regionals

Slops:
Not winning the tournament

Not facing more older opponents

Till next time, keep dueling and having fun,

Gareth
