Regnr8's Anti-meta Monarchs
Tournament Report for 6/25-26/05

Hi All,

Welcome to this week's edition of the tournament report! I hope this writing finds you well and winning!

I have really gotten a lot of email on my Total Body Control deck and I appreciate it. The suggestions are helpful but, I think I've put that deck in the binder because it caused so much controversy. How? you ask? I'll tell you. I got a ton of email about it and the deck showed up on another ygo site in a deck depot and it pretty much got blasted by all the people there. Some said the deck was "horrible" and proceeded to trash it by pointing out all the cards that WEREN'T in the deck like your staple Mirror Force and MST and Breaker and blah, blah, blah. The deck was simply copied and pasted by someone. No one knows why or how I built the deck so, naturally, they felt safe to trash it. I don't go to that site very often but, I just happened to stunble across it in the deck depot and was prett disappointed at peoples postings on it. Not only was the deck ripped off was hung out in front of all the "duelists" to see without any background info on it at all. I didn't appreciate it. The deck was built mostly for fun and to see how badly I could abuse Brain Control, it really didn't deserve to get ripped like it did. I knew the deck's faults when I built it, but pointing them out like they're some huge unintentional error on my part is unfair. Enough of that.

I decided to go back to the deck I know best, the Monarchs. Although I have abandoned all Monarchs but Mobius, I still consider it a Monarch deck. I suppose I should change the name to the Anti-meta Mobius deck but, it doesn't have the same ring to it.

Anti-meta Monarchs

x3 Mobius the Frost Monarch
x3 Nimble Momonga
x2 Berserk Gorilla
x1 Kycoo the Ghost Destroyer
x1 Spirit Reaper
x1 Exiled Force
x1 Injection Fairy Lily
x1 Sangan
x1 Breaker the Magical Warrior
x1 Tribe Infecting Virus
x1 Sinister Serpent
x1 Blade Knight

x1 Pot of Greed
x1 Graceful Charity
x1 Delinquent Duo
x1 Snatch Steal
x1 Premature Burial
x1 Heavy Storm
x1 Mystical Space Typhoon
x1 Swords of Revealing Light
x2 Bait Doll
x3 Scapegoat
x3 Metamorphosis

x1 Call of the Haunted
x2 Bottomless Trap Hole
x2 Light of Intervention
x2 Royal Decree

SIDE DECK

x1 Jinzo
x2 Enraged Battle Ox
x2 King Tiger Wanghu
x2 Kinetic Soldier
x2 Nobleman of Crossout
x1 Torrential Tribute
x1 Mirror Force
x1 Ring of Destruction
x1 Brain Control
x1 Ceasefire
x1 Lightning Vortex

The main deck starts out real "tech" and I use the side deck to make it a little more well, like all the other decks out there. If I lose the first game really badly, I'll usually switch all the tech out.

Maybe 20 or so people today

My daughter finally came today but decided not to enter the tournament. Oh well. She worked really hard for a few weeks and saved up enough money to buy a PSP and she played it most of the time.

I noticed a couple of new folks today and a guy who hasn't been coming lately. The two new players travelled about an hour to get there so, that was a nice trek for them to come get the behinds whooped. LoL.

ROUND 1
MONARCHS VS SLOW STALL BURN

This was one of the new guys. My reputation preceeds me because he had already heard that I was one of the more difficult people to beat. He hemmed and hawed about which deck he was going to use today and finally decided after a couple of minutes.

GAMES 1 & 2

Both games went pretty much the same for me. He activated Toll, Chain Energy, LLAB and Gravity Binds but, I played and attacked through the Toll and Chain Energy because I was doing more damage to him than he was doing to me. Mobius finally comes out and wipes out his S/T zone and I win. The second game Injection Fairy Lily just kills him.

I didn't know this until after the match, but the deck had no monsters in it. Cool. I gave him props for that.

He said he knew he shouldn't have used that particular deck against me and asked if I would duel him with another deck. I agreed. I beat it quite easily. He asked if he could use another deck. I agreed. I beat that one easily, too. LoL.

ROUND 2
MONARCHS VS BEATDOWN

GAME 1 & 2
He hits me with some early damage with and Archfiend Soldier and a Giant Orc. I draw a Scapegoat with a couple of Metamorphosis in my hand and a Royal Decree set. I morph a token to TER and take his Orc, when he tries to activate any traps, I activate the Decree and I have him pretty much shut down. He uses Snatch Steal in both games and in one, I end up with 12,800LP. Injection Fairy Lily with 12,800LP to play with is almost unstoppable. Too funny.

ROUND 3
MONARCHS VS BURN

This was the other "new" guy.

GAME 1

My first turn Duo takes out his hand and he plays defensively the rest of the duel and my Light of Intervention stops all his flips and I win fairly easily.

GAME 2

Just for grins, I put in the Tigers and the two Nobleman of Crossout along with the Light of Intervention. I NoC his first face down monster, then activate Light of Intervention in his next draw phase when I have a Tiger on the field and he can't summon anything because all his monsters are below 1400 attack. He starts setting S/T cards like mad but Mobius takes care of those and I really overpower him.

SEMI-FINALS
MONARCHS VS BEATDOWN

This deck is a pretty straight forward beatdown, although I got a huge surprise.

GAME 1

I get Graceful in my opening hand and set a Goat and summon a Berserk.

He MST's my Goat, which I activate. He plays Pot and the Vortex, of course, clearing out my field. He attacks with a Spear Dragon.

I summon Kycoo, hit his Spear, set Call of the Haunted and end my turn.

He summons Tribe. Gosh! It's crazy luck that wins duels. Vortex, then Tribe! What a laugh. He discards for spellcaster, then plays Graceful. He Premature Burials Goblin Attack Force and attacks with both and I have to take it. Smeg. I'm probably going to lose really badly.

I Heavy his Premature, Call back a Gorilla and tribute for Mobius for some bigger firepower and attack.

He plays Smashing Ground on my Mobius. Boy, I am really starting to totally dislike that card. He summons a Gorilla and attacks.

I stall a little with Nimbles and Scapegoats, but can't get anything else happening. He has Breaker and a Gorilla on the field and tribute them both for an Ancient Gear Golem! Wahat?!!?! That was a funny surprise! Needless to say, he starts trampling my tokens and I don't last but one more turn.

GAME 2

I side deck a bunch of stuff. I take out all the tech and replace it with all the "staple" stuff. He attacks all the time and I think I can let my traps take care of him.

First turn he NoC's my Sangan...Once again, he gets Tribe out, taking out my tokens and Gorilla, but this time I have Ring set and use it.

He and I trade traps with each other for a while until he runs out and is holding his Gear Golem with no monsters and I win this game. It was a good duel.

GAME 3

I get two Scapegoat, MST, Metamorphsis and a Battle Ox in my opening hand and manage to stay alive. We destroy each others monsters with out Mirror Force and once again, engage in a battle of traps and monster removal. He Smashes my Gorilla. He Rings Injection, his TiV takes out my tokens but he depletes his hand by doing so. A Heavy Storm takes care of his Swords and I attack him for the win.

FINALS
MONARCHS VS BEATDOWN

Wow. Beatdown seems to be the deck of choice for today. I haven't seen BLS once though.

GAME 1

Total ownage. All he has is Exiled Force and he keeps bringing it back with Premature and Call to get rid of my monsters. As soon as he can't bring Exiled back again, my Kycoo takes him out of the graveyard along with his Sinister Serpent and that's all she wrote. Easy win for me. He did draw into a terrible hand though. Awww. I'm cryin'. 8000 - 0. GG.

GAME 2

I decide not to side deck anything and it wouldn't have mattered anyway. I get a bunch of traps and he Snatchs my monster and tributes it for Jinzo and all I draw after that is traps and monsters that can't take Jinzo out so I get smashed up pretty good.

GAME 3

This time, I do side deck.

I open up with Delinquent Duo and take out his Graceful Charity. Yes!! He Dust Tornado's my Swords and really starts emptying his hand by setting a bunch of stuff. He manages to flip his Cyber Jar but that hurt him because it gave me every card I needed to probably win on the next turn. He Cyber'd out 2 Marauding Captainand summoned a Gorilla but when he attacked, I had Mirror Force ready. He activates his Swords and I MST it on my turn and attack with Kycoo.

He summons a Gorilla and takes out my Kycoo but I Snatch it next turn and attck him for the win.

Great! I win the tournament this week! I will admit, several of the best players were not there this weekend so, it's sort of a hollow victory. I do get tired of dueling the same people though.

The second tournament was Sunday and I'm not even going to report anything about that because, I got my booty kicked in the first round by BLS and well, there's not much to say about it except, I was disappointed. But, I did get to come home early and finish Lord of the Rings: The Third Age for XBox. It was surprisingly good. Better than I thought it would be. It was on sale as a buy three get one free used game deal so, I picked it up and it was fun. If your a huge LoTR geek, you may not like it but if you're a casual fan of both LoTR and RPG's then you might like it.

Until next time, happy dueling!
