I came to this tourney hoping to test this out as much as
I'd need to. I'm headed to Nationals come June, and I'd like
to bring something like this, if I can get it consistent
enough in time.
I traded for the Monster Reincarnation (Ultimate, 1st)
before the tourney... it and a few other gems for my spare
1st Ed. Chaos Emperor Dragon. Turned out it was a great
move, since it was one of the most effective cards I had in
this deck... so much synergy... *drools*
At this point I didn't have my second Phoenix Wing Wind
Blast, so I was decking 2x Raigeki Break instead. They were
good, but not as good as PWWB would be.
Anywho, on to the tourney.
First Round: SCC (Me) VS. Cookie Cutter Chaos Warrior
Okay, first, I must say that CCCW is probably NOT the best
deck to take to Nationals, since it's what every good player
is VERY ready for. Anyone who wants to win, something else
is just better.
First round, I was basically building off of my MoF's. Turn
3 I get PoG, used it. Pulled it back a few times, stalling
against his Blade Knights and DD Assailants. By then, I was
able to Sinister + Morph to take one monster, and then offer
that TER for the Zaborg to clear his monster zone. I
attacked, and he had some defense like Mirror or RoD, but I
Booked my Zaborg and set RoD myself. He walked right into
it, and was pretty much topping by now, since we'd been
going 1-for-1 until my PoG abuse. Meta + Balter owned him.
Second game was sick. I brought out the Assailant combo +
Sinister abuse with Graceful Charity and Magician of
Faiths... it was a bit longer, but I finished it by dropping
a well-timed BLS after gaining a lot of advantage.
Winner: Me
At this point, I was a bit cocky, since I'd had two VERY
clear-cut victories against the big, bad 'CCCW', which was
exactly what I'd wanted. My next game was against a
Zombie-Chaos deck that I'd beaten in the last tourney twice,
so I admit I was pretty confident.
Me VS. Zombie-Chaos
First game: I got out the Assailant abuse, this time owning
with Zaborg alone, re-using it with Monster Reincarnation to
take down his turtles, MoF's, etc... just totally shut him
down. Cockiness up 100%.
Second Game: Ugh.. one of the worst hands... MoF with
nothing to use it on but, like, Premature Burial... this
game was just.. his. He's too good a player to expect to
beat on a bad draw.
Third: Unbelievable... another bleh hand. He tore me to
shreds once more. Props to him.
Winner: Him
At this point, I was kinda peeved at my luck, since I'd had
so much fun with it when it was half-way decent. He got
Graceful + Pot out the second game first hand, so I was a
tad jealous, too. Usually I only lose to godhands... this
was no different.
Match 3: Me VS. #1 Ranked in MN... (Heavy MoF + Tsuku abuse,
SCC)
You can imagine how this went.. each of us running 3x MoF,
so much defense + advantage. At this point, I didn't have
that Morphing Jar, it was a Reaper or something... I'd have
liked it.
Game 1: I rushed him via Balter early game to get him
topping.. I don't remember if he lost to it or my BLS.
Game 2: This was the best one. We both got HUGE hands + lots
of set stuff, so it really was all strategy, and how we ran
it. I broke the game open with a MoF + Meta + Restrict +
Zaborg, but he was able to combat that easily with all his
cards... mid-game he surprised me with a Royal Decree, but I
threw down some offense to use it against him. He ended up
winning when the cards in his hand began to be more useful
than mine. I know he got a bit of Tsuku abuse, in, while
mine were stuff like Apprentice, my Assailant combo, and
Spirit Reaper...
Game 3: This was like... what I did to him the first game,
only to me. I had another bad hand, which actually is rare
in this deck, I swear... this was just his. I REALLY wanted
the Morphing Jar at this point... he BLS'd me to death with
ease, as I remember it.
So yeah... it was a small tourney this weekend, and I didn't
make it to the Top 4. I lost to good duelists who just had
the luck. My deck is almost complete, so I have no regrets.
Pr0ps:
- To the people at Unicorn Games, MN for being so cool. I
can't wait to see a few of those guys next weekend, and
hopefully will see them at Nats.
- To me for getting my deck finished after, like, a month of
being lazy.
- To the guys who helped me test out some final touches
after the tourney.
- To Monster Reincarnation, Night Assailant, and Zaborg for
being so darn broken in my deck... <3 them.
