Regnr8's Anti-Meta Monarchs
Tournament Report for July 10, 2005

Hi all,

Welcome to another exciting (yeah, right) installment of the Tournament Report! I hope this writing finds you well and winning!

Yesterday, I took first place. Today, I wanted a repeat. I switched the deck up a little bit, returning it to it's roots. It does perform better with the Scapegoat/Metamorphosis combo instead of the King Tiger/Light of Intervention combo. The Light of Intervention and King Tiger works, but only against certain deck types so, I put all that in the side deck to switch it out to a beastdown deck. I only went to the side deck once today and it proved disaterous. I really don't think it would have mattered anyway, because it was one of those duels where my opponent just got everything he needed to totally kill me in like, three turns. More of that later...I did main deck the Jinzo this week and he was actually pretty effective.

25 to 30 people today.

There was a good crowd today, despite the weather. Hurricane Dennis was hitting the Gulf Coast while the tournament was going on, and he was dumping rain all thoughout the area. It was nasty and only got worse as the tournament progressed. I needed to get some dog food and got soaking wet carrying it to my van after the tournament. It was dark, windy and rainy on the way home. It is suppose to rain all week long, too. Bummer.

I faced a slew of CCC decks today and a couple of varients. All in all, it was a challenging tournament for me. I had fun, which is the important part.

ROUND 1

MONARCHS VS CCC

Yeah, yeah. My first Chaos deck of the day. Would I be throwing my cards across the table in frustration, or would I emerge victorious?

GAME 1

I lose the die roll and my opponent sets one S/T and one face down monster.

I have an ok hand with 2 Scapegoat, Kycoo, Mirror Force and Tribe. I draw Graceful and get Sinister and Delinquent along with something else I don't remember. I discard the Sinister and what I didn't remember, then Delinquent his Mirror Force. He choses an Airknight. I set the Scapegoat and Mirror Force and end my turn.

He draws and ends his turn.

I set my Serpent and he promptly NoC's it on his turn. Crap. He does nothing else. Hmmm...

I set Kycoo and end.

He does nothing and I activate Scapegoat in his end phase.

I Morph a token to take his set Spirit Reaper and tribute it for Mobius, which he Bottomless Trap Holes. I've destroyed his set Book of Moon, so flip up Kycoo and attack, removing his only light and dark, Airknight and Reaper, from play.

He summons Exiled, takes out my Kycoo and sets a S/T.

I draw another Kycoo and summon it. He Rings it.

He summons a Blade Knight and I Mirror Force it when he attacks.

I Premature Burial Kycoo, summon a Gorilla and attack. This gets him down to 600LP. I remove his Blade Knight from play.

I think I'm in pretty good shape, but he draws into Graceful and I am concerned. He discards a Blade Knight and Enemy Controller, then plays Pot of Greed. Curses. He uses Smashing Ground on my Gorilla and then tries to play Delinquent Duo but can't because he's at 600LP. He sets a face down monster and 2 S/T.

Well, it's all or nothing for me now. With two S/T set, I summon a DD Warrior Lady and attack his face down Magician of Faith. He doesn't respond. I attack with Kycoo and he doesn't respond. I win.

GAME 2

He side decks. I do not.

He opens up with Pot of Greed and sets a monster and one S/T. I'm guessing he set a Magician of Faith, an especially safe guess after Pot of Greed has been played.

I've drawn two Nimbles, Torrential Tribute, Call of the Haunted and Nobleman of Crossout. I NoC his Spirit Reaper (darn, I was really hoping it was Magician), summon a Nimble and attack. GO NIMBLE! I set Call of the Haunted.

He sets another monster.

I summon the second Nimble, attack his Sangan with one, then directly for 1000 with the other. GO NIMBLE! He gets Sinister with Sangan. I'm guessing he has Tribe in his hand.

He plays Delinquent, taking out Sangan and I pick Torrential. He sets another monster. Grrrr....

I summon a Kycoo, attack his set Magician with a Nimble. I attack again with the second Nimble. GO NIMBLE! When I attack with Kycoo, he Compulsory's it back to my hand. Whatever. He gets Pot of Greed.

He plays Pot, then sets another freaking monster. He also sets another S/T.

I draw MST and typhoon away his Torrential. Haha. I summon Tribe, just in case the monster is a Spirit Reaper, and its his Serpent.

He summons Kycoo and attacks my Tribe.

I tribute Kycoo for Mobius and he Compulsory's it. Whatever.

He attacks one of my Nimbles with Kycoo and I gain LP and get the third Nimble on the field. He tributes his Kycoo for Jinzo.

I tribute a Nimble for another Mobius, destroying his S/T zone and suicide with his Jinzo. I attack with the last Nimble for 1000LP damage and the match! GO NIMBLE!

I love Nimble Momonga!

ROUND 2
MONARCHS VS Hmmm, not really sure. A lot of draw power. I'm not too sure how to classify this deck.

GAME 1

I win the die roll and get two Metamorphosis, Torrential, Breaker, Tribe and a Nimble. I summon the Nimble and set one of the Metamorphosis.

He opens up with Graceful Charity. Bah! He discards his Sangan and a Metamorphosis. He Snatch's my Nimble, summons Breaker and gets rid of my set Metamorphosis and attacks. Ouch. My own Nimble betrays me!

I draw a Scapegoat and set it, along with Torrential.

He sets a monster and attacks with my Nimble and Breaker. I activate Scapegoat.

I Morph a token, take his set Magician of Faith, summon Tribe and discard for Spellcaster, getting rid of my TER and his Breaker. I attack my Nimble. He loses 600Lp and I gain 1000 and get two more Nimbles to the field. That's lovely....ahhhh....

He NoC's one of the Nimbles and sets a monster. Grrr. Doesn't anyone summon monsters in attack position any more, I mean really!!??

I draw Graceful and get Exiled Force in the draw and summon him to get rid of his Morphing Jar. Ah, that's rich. Tribe attacks and my last Nimble attacks for the win! GO NIMBLE!

Those little flying squirrels are kicking major booty today! WooT!

GAME 2

To make a long duel short, he kept getting Graceful back with MoF and flipped his Morphing Jar 4 times! About halfway through the duel, I sat back and played defensively because he was decking himself out really quickly. 2 or three Gracefuls and 4 Morphing Jar flips will seriously cramp your style. He decked himself out.

ROUND 3

MONARCHS VS CCC

GAME 1

Fantastic duel. I end up with two TER on the field. I'm winning pretty handily, something like 7200 to 1100 when he finally gets rid of the TERs and brings out BLS. He Smashes one TER and removes the other with BLS. I have 4 cards in my hand. He attacks with a bunch of stuff, including a Spirit Reaper. I'm holding Snatch Steal and hope he doesn't pick that with the Reaper. He doesn't. He gets me down to 2400LP in one attack. He has no S/T set and I Snatch his BLS and attack his Spirit Reaper with it for the win.

GAME 2

Just for fun, because I won the first duel, I side deck in all the Light of Intervention and Tigers and Oxs and Chirons.

Oh man, I get slaughtered in a hurry. He gets BLS out on me the second turn. I use a Smashing Ground on him but he Premature's him next turn. GG.

That was bad.

GAME 3

I return the deck to it's original format.

I go first and set a Scapegoat and summon a Gorilla.

He MST's my Goat and I chain it. He uses Lighting Vortex. Grrrr....He summons Kycoo and attacks, removing my Gorilla.

I summon Sinster and Morph it, taking his Kycoo with TER and attack.

He sets a monster.

I set a Nimble and Nobleman all his Magician of Faith. Excellent! I attack with TER and set Ring.

Help! He brings out BLS and I Ring it. He uses his priority and removes BLS from play. That was smart, because he was at 3300LP.

He Premature Burials his Jinzo and attacks a Nimble. He keeps attacking Nimbles, I gain LP and when all my Nimbles are gone, I activate Scapegoat in his end phase, Morph a token to TER, take his Jinzo and attack for the win.

ROUND 4

MONARCHS VS WARRIOR/BEATDOWN

This guy hasn't beaten me yet. He's come close, but no cigar. He's really wanting to defeat me and he can, but his deck isn't quite there yet. I know he doesn't have Delinquent nor a Breaker, so I'm at a slight advantage.

GAME 1

He sets a monster and that's it. Ok.

I open up with Graceful followed by Delinquent, taking out his Scapegoat and Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke. I summon DD Warrior Lady, hit his Sinister and remove both from play. I set the Scapegoat.

He summons Don Zaloog and I activate Scapegoat when he attacks.

I Vortex his Don, summon a Gorilla and attack into Magic Cylinder. Meh.

He activates RotA, gets Exiled Force and summons it, attacking a token and then tributing it to destroy my Gorilla. Boo. Hiss.

I set a Nimble.

He summons a Command Knight and attacks my Nimble. I gain 1000LP and get two more.

I set Ring of Destruction and activate Swords.

He does nothing.

I Ring his Command Knight, Tribute a Nimble for Jinzo, Premature Burial a Gorilla, flip up my last Nimble and attack him with all of them. This reduces his LP to exactly zero. Sweet.

GAME 2

He side decks and I do not.

I get a really bad hand. He Rings my TER when I try to take his Command Knight, MSTs my Ring and then does the Pot/Graceful thing. Vortex takes out my tokens and Don takes out my hand. I get whacked around really nicely.

GAME 3

This time, I get a better opening hand. 2 Metamorphosis, Sinister, Premature, DDWL and Nobleman of Crossout. I summon DDWL, set a Metamorphosis and end.

He sets one S/T and one face down.

I NoC his Cyber Jar (thankfully). I attack with DDWL and set Sinister.

He sets another face down monster. I summon Sangan and he Torrentials. Whatever. I get a Nimble with Sangan.

He sumons a Ninja Grandmaster Sasuke and attacks. I take it. He sets one S/T.

I summon Sinister and Morph it, taking his Ninja and attack him with it.

He Vortexs my TER, sets yet another monster and has played out his hand.

I Morph my Sinster to take his Sinister and end my turn.

He has no hand again and next turn, I summon Tribe, discard my Sinister for Spellcaster, destroying my own TER and attack with Tribe for the win. Yea!

SEMI-FINALS
MONARCHS VS CCC again

GAME 1

I get killed. Two Airknights wipe me out because I get goats, but no Metamorphosis.

GAME 2

Jinzo kills me this time. I can't keep it off the field! Injection takes care of it the turn after it's summoned. He uses Call of the Haunted and I chain my Call to my Lily and get rid of it again. I can't pay for Lily again and next turn he Premature Burials it! Curses. Jinzo kills me because I can't keep it in the graveyard.

Pooey.

Oh well, I get to try for third place and have to duel a person I always lose too these days.

MONARCHS VS PHOENIX

GAME 1 and 2

At this point, I was pretty much playing pretty lazily because I made it to the semi finals and now I was just having fun. I didn't care if I won or lost. So, I lost both games pretty badly but, I didn't care. It's all good.

Well, that's it for this weekend's dueling extravaganza!

The deck did great and I'm really happy with the way it performed. I don't think it really needs a whole lot of tweaking so, I'm sticking with it as is. Well, maybe I'll switch out a card or two. I'm pretty happy with the S/T line up but, the monsters could still use a little tuning up. Maybe add a Tsukuyomi and/or a Morphing Jar. We'll see...

Until next time, happy dueling.
