Rant & Online Duel
March 24, 2006

Today's Article is simply me talking about an online duel I had against team BTA, (Beat That A**) organizer, John Schiavane. I also rant in some fashion concerning the excessive Bitching (I had to say it because in a sense I can not put it simpler) concerning the Ban list and calling out Team Overdose; a rival of team BTA, on the fact that they are a team that is failing to produce an impact in the sense that they can be much more than what they already are. (Basically, I would like them and all well established teams to act in a manner to change the metagame, not follow in the set logic which apparently haunts this game.)

-READ ON>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.

Sense I am currently trying to establish a name for Necrosis, I must seek alliances with organized teams. BTA is a Team located around Queens New York. They will be attending Shonen Jump Boston and are a team that I am really proud to be associated with simply because they use numerous original decks. Things like Creator Burn, Water Control, and variant Warrior rush decks. This team has a strong rivalry towards out playing team Overdose. The Water variant deck I am told beat Anthony Alvarado

In a 2:0 match with a 8000 to 0 score both times. Wining with OCEAN DRAGON LORD-NEO-DAEDAUS

(This is mentioned only to establish the concept that they play against tough competition and fair well against some of the strongest Yu-Gi-Oh players in the country.)

For those of you who do not know who Anthony is………………………………....

Here are his credentials from an interview held by www.metagame.com

Top 20 Nationals 2005 Finisher

Top 8 showings in two Shonen Jump Championships

Winner of six Regional tournaments

Globally ranked eighteenth at time of interview

The rivalry between this team is simply an issue I have with OD. Now do not get me wrong, I respect all of its members and recognize them as some of the best Players in the Nation. My only inclination of distaste towards them comes from the fact they basically run what everybody else does and they have an actual shot to do something different. My hopes regarding my team is to actually go to more than one Shonen Jump. I have only been to one, placed 64 with only 3 losses coming from duo and pot 3 times by my second move. If I had an opportunity to appear at all tourneys, then I have no doubt my name would be associated with a Shonen Jump Championship. Team BTA, also lacks funding. A lot of great players do not have the resources to fund such a hobby. But OD does Their legacy, though powerful, is built upon copying and following the Cookie Cutter standards of Yu-Gi-Oh. I personally understand that some cards have to be ran. But actually having claimed numerous spots in worlds, and winning Shonen Jumps, with members making multiple appearances, what is it they have done to shape the metagame. People will remember the creators of Mill, Soul Control, etc. When somebody wins a Shonen Jump with a Dark World deck (It is possible) that person is remembered. People who pioneer Burn to top 8 finishes and Cyber Stein to wins, these people are the true champions of dueling. The only reason a cookie exist is because people are insecure with their own methods of play. Plus there is a 100 cookie decks to every 2 original or weirdly teched cookie supported decks. The last Shonen Jump has given me hope for the game. People running off the wall tech like Sand Moth, demonstrate a great understanding to the metagame.

Team OD, this is me, Forest Thomer leader of slowly developing Necrosis (which I hope is graced with the fortune your team has had bestowed upon it) telling you that I acknowledge your skill and success, but I personally hope to meet you in the top 8 of some major event. Honestly, you must understand that by running identical decks, this game becomes more about luck than it should be. It simply becomes a game of who draws what first. Please team OD, make some attempt in future events to run something completely un-expectant. It will make your team better recognized and it will aid in your apparent plan of World Domination

I hate watching people who can make massive changes stand by and do nothing.

Thus that is why I have any kind of anger/jealousy, etc. towards this team. A passion BTA shares.

THE BAN LIST

I honestly wish the Yu-Gi-Oh ban list was developed more like so,

A player can choose to run one of the following cards per list.

List 1) Heavy Storm, Graceful Charity, Snatch Steal

List 2) Mobius, Spirit Reaper, Don Zaloog

With your banned cards, including some restriction on Chaos Sorcerer and other broken cards, a.k.a. Goldd, Cyber Stein, Etc. Thus limiting the use of staples and actually forcing people to not have countless identical cards in the same deck. Broken Cards like Breaker, generate 2 for ones. But honestly as a community we need to stop getting upset over cards like Breaker because even though he generates advantage, (that is why they were made. Hence why he is restricted.) The advantage he generates is not game ending. Berserk Gorilla generates advantage………………………………...............

One monster, one etc.

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

People, please stop talking about limiting sakuretsu armor and the like.

If this happens, guess what, massive onslaughts of monsters are going to be on the field with no way to stop them. People will just run some other form of monster removal.

I know you all want a tribute to the doom over a smashing ground, but lets think about this, shall we,

It becomes a negative 1 for your opponent.

So now we have people with more monsters winning games. And with the restrictions on broken cards, we have a game of actually negative ones. If I was to play in such a format I would not run any 2 for one. I would run cards like man-eater bug, etc.

Guess what, a one for one. A one for one is a balanced card, bottomless trap hole can become more than a one for one, but in a sense it is balanced.

Widespread, a one for one.

People will just run brain controls, soul exchange, and a lot more monarchs

Limit the monarchs, people will run Phoenix, sense all we have is one bottomless.

Do you see what I am saying. Shit, (I have a lot of anger regarding this issue)

Zombie decks, Vampire Lord will rein supreme. Generating countless one for plus trade offs with no way to actually stop 3 of them. So, then we will want V. Lord banned.

Opps!, D.D. Warrior becomes a staple

People who complain about things like this, why waste so much energy regarding this and actually think about what you are saying.

Also, Jae, Leave Cyber Dragon ALONE. I will say it, I like Cyber Dragon. He is cool but he is not broken. Mirror Force, Torrential Tribute, etc. balance this card. He allows you to make an extra summon when you are losing in that sense. Cards like this are needed to help people come back from crippling second turn situations. In the current format, Dark Hole smacks him and his friend around. Big deal, you are down LP, but now momentum has shifted in your favor because you summoned 2 monsters instead of one. He does not hurt any deck. Zombie decks, Zombie Decks, freaking Monarchs Hurt Zombie Decks. Why are you not saying BAN MOBIUS, BAN BRAIN CONTROL a little bit louder than BAN CYBER DRAGON. He is nothing but a 2100 beat stick. Zombyra the Dark, Hurts Zombie Decks, come on man. This card should never be looked at or considered for restriction. Decks function very well without it. Look at the second Place deck from last week. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Also, please stop telling people that Exiled Force and DD Assailant are one for ones that need to be unrestricted.

No offense, but as much as you are talking about Cyber Dragon Killing Zombie Decks, these cards shut down

Horus

Armed Dragon

Zombie

Any kind of deck that forces you to go through a lot to get a BALANCED MONSTER like

Horus.

NOW FOR MY DUEL

………………………………......................................................................................................

Here is a list of the deck I used

(45)

Monster (23)

2x Cyber Dragon
2x Stealth Bird
2x Spirit Reaper
Cyber Jar
Morphing Jar
3x Dekoichi the Battlechanted Locomotive
2x Magical Merchant
2x D.D. Assailant
D.D. Warrior Lady
2x Luster Dragon
Breaker the Magical Warrior
2x Gravekeepers Spy
Exiled Force
Mystic Swordsman Lv. 2

Spell(13)

2x Level Limit Area-B
3x Smashing Ground
2x Pot of Avarice
Reinforcements of the Army
Premature Burial
MST
Heavy Storm
Nobleman of Crossout
Snatch Steal

Trap (9)

2x Dust Tornado
2x Gravity Bind
3x Sakuretsu Armor
Torrential Tribute
Call of the Haunted

It is one of my tech decks. I try my best to blend the power of the cookie with off the wall tech. Notice the use of Gravity Bind and Level Limit Area-B. These cards combine with stealth bird to allow me to burn my opponent away after I have drawn out Heavy Storm, MST, Nobleman of Crossout, etc. The look on your opp. Face when you control the field with these cards, the lightning rod it makes a Mobius, etc. make me all happy.

Anyway duel one started. He allowed me to go first. By this simple move I knew there was something up. You see most players who openly allow you to go first, In my experience, Play some form of FTK. I set one magic/Trap and ended with 5 cards in hand.

He draws and summons Mataza the Zapper and attacks me for 2600 LP. My facedown trap, Gravity Bind is totally useless sense his warrior is 3 stars. He sets a spell/trap and ended with 4 in hand. I draw and summon my Breaker the Magical Warrior. I break his back card, he chains compulsory evacuation device thus returning my breaker to my hand. I set a dust tornado as a bluff and end.

He saw through my bluff and summons a Command Knight, after activating Heavy Storm and attacks me with both monsters, a total of 3 attacks.

I am now at 800 LP to his 8000. He sets a spell trap and ends.

My go, I draw a sakuretsu Armor and set my cyber jar and sak, hoping for the best.

He summons another command Knight, obviously wanting to hit me for game. Fist attack is to my cyber jar………………………………...............................................................................................................

I draw 2 Dekoichi, 2 cyber Dragon, and I believe a dust tornado. He gets a goblin attack force and a mataza with some assortment of spells.

He attacks my trains with mataza, I decide to use the sak on Goblin Att.

I draw to cards.

My move I summon Cyber Dragon and Breaker set my dust and a sakuretsu armor.

And att him for 1600 LP.

He draws, sets a monster.

I go, activate dust tornado. Summon a DD warrior Lady, at this point my actions are all or none. With 800 LP, I got nothing to lose:p

Attack his face down with cyber dragon (turns out to be a mystic swordsman lv. 2)

At for 1600 and 1500

I set another Sakuretsu Armor.

He top decks a Goblin Att. Force and sets a trap. He chooses not to att. Sense I have 3 face downs.

I draw into smashing ground, activate my first turn MST and rid myself of a warrior retuning alive I think.

I activate Smashing Ground and attack for game.

The second game he decided to go first. I do not remember much, but I know I was losing with one monster (cyber jar) which brought me 2 monsters and him 4, including 2 mataza's. Thus from the second move I was once again losing at less than a thousand LP.

I then remember him summoning Silent Swordsman LV. 5, with a full field of monsters. So I activated Torrential Tribute.

I was able to set up the burn from a stealth bird, which he snatched via snatch steal. I top-decked a nobleman (Just Like Yugi:P)

I obviously had card advantage, but I was scared to death to att. His face down monster, turned out to be Sangan, for fear of taking 300 LP damage. I also remember Him summoning Injection Fairy Lily, attacking through my Level Limit. So any of my attack position monsters was going to be game over. Luckily I had a sakuretsu armor and he did not have My Body as a Shield.

I eventually came back using another stealth bird and some direct attacks. But in all honestly, this was a great duel. And it really threw me for a ride. I can only imagine future duels………………………………........

I know that his team will make some form of impact at Shonen Jump Boston. Hopefully giving him a top finish, so that he can attend Nationals. He has been making top 5 in regional events, but his "good buddy"

Bryan Coronel, who ends up beating him. Hopefully you can get an invite, I wish you the best of luck

Both games he started out hard and fast, I was thinking " NO burn, NO burn!!!!!!!!"

(We played two games and both of them consisted of me coming back from 800LP and 300LP simply because of cyber jar.)

I will miss you little buddy
