Another character card today, though from Mai Valentine, not Joey Wheeler, we look at Harpie's Pet Dragon.  The best thing this card has going for it, is that it's a Wind Monster.  Being a Dragon is also a good thing, but in a Harpie Deck, it's essentially a moot point.  2000 attack and 2500 defense base stats for a Level 7 Monster is garbage.  There isn't a nice way to put that.  She does gain 300 attack and defense for each Harpie Lady on the Field.  Harpie's are getting better, slowly, but still aren't quite competitive enough.  This Monster is outclassed by an XYZ form, two to be technically correct.  Assuming you were using this in your Harpie Deck, you're probably not likely to have more than three Harpie Ladies on the Field at a time (2900-3300) but with no protection, or anything else, there just isn't room for her.

We are revisiting some old cards that may have an impact on today’s Meta and that may be in Joey’s World being released at the end of the week. Next up on our list is Harpie’s Pet Dragon. What makes this monster so good is not its effect, but the fact that it is a Level 7 Dragon type monster.

You are only going to see Harpie’s Pet Dragon in a Harpie deck. It is a fun deck, but it still lacks the speed of the top tier decks, even with Hysteric Sign. With the addition of Hysteric Sign and Harpie Channeler, Harpie decks have become relevant again. Pet Dragon is a key card in this improved deck.

What you want to do is summon Harpie Channeler from the hand or from the deck with Summoner Monk. Then you use Channeler’s effect to special summon Harpie’s Pet Dragon. By doing that, you give yourself two level 7 monsters on the field as Channeler becomes a level 7 monster when a Dragon type monster is on the field. Then you overlay for a powerful Rank 7 monster like Dracossack, Big Eye, Abyssgaios, or Master of Blades.

Harpie decks can be a lot of fun with all of the support we have for Wind and Winged Beast monster along with all of the new Xyz level 4 and 7 monsters in the game. Harpie’s Pet Dragon is a key piece to this deck.

This card gains 300 ATK and DEF for each "Harpie Lady" on the field.

Continuing our look at Legendary Collection 4: Joey’s World we look at one of Mai Valentine’s main cards, Harpie's Pet Dragon.  This was last reviewed way back in 2002 check it out here: http://www.pojo.com/yu-gi-oh/COTD/2002/Dec2002/30.shtml, yeah not exactly a bunch of glowing reviews, still how have things changed?

Statwise Harpie’s Pet Dragon isn’t great for a level 7, only 2000 ATK which is really bad and 2500 DEF which is okay. Harpie’s Pet Dragon gains a 300 ATK and DEF boost for every Harpie Lady on the field which isn’t great but still you could have a 3200 ATK Dragon if things go your way.

So what makes this card so playable these days. First of there is  Harpie Channeler which can Special Summon this card from your deck and then use both this and Channeler to get a Rank 7 Xyz Monster. Also there are a lot more Harpie cards available for people to choose from and plenty of support as well and it seems a lot of these will be available in Legendary Collection 4.
Overall from a card no-one touched to one of the most desirable cards today. It is amazing what can happen in 10 years. Still if you play Harpies this card is a must.
