Gagaga Gardna tries to do better what Tasuke Knight did "well" yesterday.  This is a Level 4, Earth attributed, Warrior, with 1500 attack and 2000 defense, and a welcome addition to the Gagaga family.  When you are targeted for a Direct Attack, you can Special Summon this card from your Hand.  Furthermore, when targeted for Battle, by discarding a card from your Hand, you can protect Gardna from being destroyed in that Battle.  It can certainly be a combo card, dumping something you don't need at present for later or to set something up (like yesterdays card).  I'd really rather the card were protected from Battle for the turn, as opposed just the selected Battle, but it's not bad.

We're reviewing another of Yuma's Gagaga monsters, Gagaga Gardna. Gardna is one of those cards that can stop a swarming attack. When your opponent declares a direct attack, you can special summon this card from your hand. Also, when this face up card is targeted for an attack, you can discard 1 card to have this card not be destroyed by that 1 battle. With 2,000 DEF, this card can fend off a lot. This card is also good at getting other cards you may want in the grave. Remember, Discard is in the card's text, that means a lot. Gardna is good for stopping those OTK swarms, by being able to special summon itself when your opponent and being able to save its self from battle. I like to think this is an ok card for the side deck.

Tomorrow: Hammer time.

So...so far this week we got two Normal Monsters, and two Battle Fader wanna-bes (and both being Yuma's).

2000 DEF can fend off attacks from generic monsters, but it quickly crumbles when the opponent plays a Synchro or Xyz. For every time Gardna is going to fall to one of these heavy hitters, you can use a card from your hand to make an instant Spirit Reaper; this does, however, promote very bad hand management.

It's name does grant it special Gagaga privileges. I suppose with his longevity, you could use Gagagathunder. His own effect usually makes Gagagaback moot and oftentimes he's not important enough to use with Gagagaguard, though. Combined with Gagagarush, he does make a sturdy wall, though. He's not amazing enough to warrant his splashability. I'd only really use him in a Gagaga Deck, and even then he doesn't really add much to the theme. He's not terribly bad, but...even in Gagaga Deck he can't help contribute to the purpose that Gagaga Magician and Girl already have going.

Granted, Gagaga Girl will still get her own effect if she Xyzs with Gardna, but that is an extremely rare occurance, and I strongly advise against any attempts to push it.

Traditional: 1/5

Advanced: 2.5/5 (bonus .5 because of the name)
Aesthetics: 4/5 That is NOT the Gagagashield Trap Card...and there aren't even any generic Gagaga support cards for non-monsters. It's still a cool-looking shield, though.

Philosophy Corner: Sometimes, humility is the only cure for insanity.

Gagaga Gardna
Hey Duelists, Coming to you with today's COTD is Team Sentinel's BlackMarketYuGiOh and Shad0wslayr. Today we will be discussing Gagaga Gardna. Level 4 earth attribute warrior 1500/2000
When an opponent's monster declares a direct attack: You can Special Summon this card from your hand. When this face-up card is targeted for an attack: You can discard 1 card; this card cannot be destroyed by that battle.

SS- So um, is this card like the futuristic version of Yugi's Big Shield Gardna? It does follow along with Yugi's theme. High Defensive card, hard to pass over; however no drawback like BSG, but it does provide the ability to combo off with the other Gagaga Archtype.
BMY- Yeah, I'll agree with the line of Zexal version of BSG, For me however; I actually see this card being used in certain graveyard fueled decks. No, you wont see it in the meta, but you may see it on a local level. The ability to discard as many times as you can to stop his destruction by battle renders him mildly useful in certain strategies other than the gagaga decks.
SS- I completely agree, this card may fuel certain decks to help with further strategies along with waiting on the side for the continuing Gagaga archetype cards to be released. This card may indeed see some play.
Advanced: 2.5/5 "Like I said, could be used but we are playing the waiting game with this archtype"
Traditional: 1/5
Artwork: 3/5 Has the whole Steam Punk Hobo Vibe
