Dark Paladin

Well, it's Ban List week, and our first card went from being Restricted down to Semi-Restricted, that card being Chaos Sorcerer. My thoughts haven't changed much from last Format when you could use one, so please allow me to digress.

Chaos Sorcerer wasn't the answer or solution to the Tier 1 powerhouse and dominant Decks last Format people expected him to be. He was splashed into a few Decks and people hoped for the best, but it didn't do anything, it just wasn't enough.

The same holds true here, having a second copy doesn't really make him any better, and even if you had three, Chaos Sorcerer wouldn't be powerful enough to make a real effect on the Format. Stick with what you know, and what works...that isn't Chaos Sorcerer. Expect to see him rise for a little bit and just fade away again, just like last Format.

This guy is one card that is broken, but not enough to even really be limited to 2. We have a DARK Spellcaster of the level 6 variety with 2300 ATK. Those are pretty decent stats, as he can see play in a variety of decks, especially Lightsworn, without really taking away anything from the whole consistency of the deck.

His effect is that you cannot Normal Summon him and you can Special Summon him by removing a LIGHT and a DARK monster in your graveyard from play. Then, once per turn you can remove a monster from play one face up monster. This is a great card, as he is essentially a free special summon as well as being card removal. The not attacking effect is not that big a deal, as if you can protect him, he will basically win you the game, removing and attacking whenever it is necessary.

The big thing about this guy is to use him to remove something and then Tribute him for a Monarch or to summon a level 2 Tuner and then Special Summon a level 8 synchro to back yourself up. You can also do some cool things with removing cards from play and then bringing them back with Return from the Different Dimension or DDR-Different Dimension Reincarnation.

Actually getting both a lIGHT and a DARK monster into the graveyard is a bit harder than it looks these days. LIGHT monsters have never been especially effecive at having good generic monsters, but DARK monsters have always had an easy time dying for their master. Anyway, splash this and Thunderking into some decks to get some pretty amazing results.

All in all, he should have stayed at one, because now Chaos decks are starting to pop up again, which just means that this guy WILL see even more tournament play. Just bring back Black Luster Soldier while you're at it Konami!

Today’s card up for review is Chaos Sorcerer. This card was recently put at two per deck, for those who didn’t see the new list yet. The question is, can the Chaos deck be playable anymore? In my eyes, I don’t see Chaos Sorcerer as consistent, besides maybe in Lightsworn. A lot has happened since Sorcerer was above 1 per deck. The game has advanced pretty far for one thing. We have Lightsworn running loose, and the banned list did nothing to weaken it. Outside of that, there simply isn’t many good Light Monsters that you can run. Sure you can use Shining Angel, but then you are at a disadvantage against Gladiator Beasts. Too early to say if Sorcerer will actually see play at a competitive play. People will certainly try to use him, but I honestly think he isn’t worth the spot in the deck. The card on it’s own is amazing, it’s just a bad time to try him out

Chaos Sorcerer …

This is Ban List week, folks … although its more like “limited week”, seeing as how these cards aren't actually “banned” … although some probably should be! … Like this one. Chaos Sorcerer. It’s very strong and very easy to summon in this day and age. Back in the days when the Black Lust Soldier and Chaos Emperor Dragon were a problem for duelists and nobody even paid attention to the Chaos Sorcerer, people had trouble balancing a deck with usable lights and darks … mostly cuz the great lights were fewer in supply. But that is way far from the case today. U almost ALWAYS have fuel for this thing. So u can always special summon a 2300 attacker with 6 stars to remove a face-up threat and nowadays tune it to create a larger Synchro, or … whatever else u can think of. This guy is tough. Not much else to say about him. He should be banned in my opinion. I think he only gets a pass cuz its too easy to look at him as a “weaker” watered-down version of the BLS. But he’s his own monster, and he’ll wreck just about any other monster he faces.< /FONT>

A new week means a new set of card reviews, and to start this week off we have one of the three "Chaos" monsters, Chaos Sorcerer. Now since its unbanning and it hitting the Semi-Limited list, it still hasn't seen much play, and why is that? Well considering the fact that people still prefer Dark Armed Dragon over Chaos Sorcerer makes things rather difficult, at least when it comes to adding Chaos Sorcerer in any deck with Dark Armed Dragon. This is because Dark Armed Dragon needs exactly 3 DARK monsters in the grave. Chaos Sorcerer reduces the amount of DARK monsters you have in your grave. Unless you're running Burial from a Different Dimension, you're probably not gonna have the DARK monsters you removed for Chaos Sorcerer to use for Dark Armed Dragon's summon requirement. Now all that trouble for 1 card isn't worth it, which is why you dont really see many people playing Sorcerer right now, as they feel they could use better cards in Sorcerers place. Now if you dont have Dark Armed Dragon, Sorcerer isn't a bad second choice, so long as you can build a deck that can actually use it. Mixing Lightsworns with various DARK monsters isn't a bad way to go, depending on what your monster line-up is. Chaos Sorcerer isn't a bad card, its just most players feel they have better options, especially since most players DARK based decks dont run many if any LIGHT monsters.
