MerrilHess Marie the Fallen One

The only rare card we are reviewing this week, Marie the Fallen One. This card is really only good for Fire Princess burners, but was easily replaced by the Gearfried combo with Fire Princess and Morale Boost. Still, it makes Messenger of Peace give you 100 lp instead of you paying 100 lp. It also is a monster in your grave for Chaos Necromancer. The fact that it gives you only 200 lp per your Standby, it isn’t really good. I guess that it might have replaced Sinister as discard bait until Sinister came out. I’m no good with release dates, so I am not sure if that info is correct.

I give Marie the Fallen One a 1.5/5. This card is one of the worst tribute monster in the game, but at least this one has an effect.
ExMinion OfDarkness Thursday:
Marie the Fallen One

Another card that works well with Painful Choice. This has got to be Painful Choice week or something :P

This reminds me of the days of Labyrinth of Nightmare -- 3 Fire Princess, 3 Gravity Bind, 2-3 Messenger of Peace, 3 of this, and Painful Choice. Dump all of these in the Graveyard, you gain 600 life, and Fire Princess deals 1500 damage to the opponent (because each of those 200 bonuses were a separate life gain).

If you're going to play this card, I'd only play it in a Deck that had the ability to discard a lot (Card Destruction, Painful Choice, Graceful Charity (which should already be in there), Foolish Burial (which we don't have yet...lets you pick one mon in your Deck and put it in your GY)...)

It's not tournament-playable, but it's fun.

2.5/5

Cast down from Heaven,
Angel becomes dark demon,
Yet she offers life

Stats
:
Ah, Marie the Fallen One.  As a Dark/Fiend, she has plenty of support, but alas!  She is a Level 5 with a paltry ATK of 1700 and DEF of 1200!

Card Text (Effects): Here is the sole reason you’d play Marie… her effect.  As long as she exists in your Graveyard, you gain 200 LP.  Not a lot.

Uses/Combinations: Fortunately, her effect is cumulative, which is what gives her “life” purpose.  She and Sinister Serpent are great Painful Choices. ;) It is also a fine thing for Magical Merchant to discard.  Given the week’s theme, of course it’s wonderful to have 3 Marie in the discard for Chaos Necromancer-not only does it feed his effect, but her effect feeds your LP!  600 a turn is actually pretty good.

More obvious than my Chaos Necromancer/Shadow Ghoul deck, it is a given for Fire Princess and other life-gain decks.  Not a bad choice for Necromancer either, since you can get a boost while you wait for your Dark Necrofear to show up.  Chaos Monster decks might consider her too for that reason.

Ratings

Casual: 3.5/5-Aside from the relative strength increase for decks that can make use of her talents, you can probably slap a Painful Choice in whatever decks don’t run it and get more use out of her.

Constructed: 3/5-Yeah, this may seem high, but she is one of the cards (in conjunction with Painful Choice) that get left out only to keep deck sizes down, in my opinion.  Yeah, life-gain is a losing strategy on its own, but as a small bonus, it’s great.

Limited: 4/5-Smaller starting LP and monsters means that bonus is more impressive.

Summary

Would that she was a Level 4, as then she would see a lot of play.  So what if a Gemini Elf would run her over?  Next turn you’d get the LP back, and from their it’d be all bonus.  As is, there are plenty of cards that send other cards to the Graveyard.  As is, she still has a place, but it’s a lot smaller.  Now, I am curious-people obsess over so many of the female monsters, so where are her fans? :-P
