Jungle Scyther was an immediate game-changer upon release of the Jungle expansion!

Card Name: Scyther
Set: Jungle
Card Number: 10/64
Type: Grass
Stage: Basic Pokemon

  • Scyther’s 70 HP is really nice for a Basic Pokemon.
  • Weakness to Fire, but Fire was not a prevalent deck type in 1999/2000
  • Resistance to Fighting, great to battle Hitmonchan in Haymaker decks.
  • Zero Retreat Cost? Yes!  Sign me up for that!

Attacks

Scyther’s first attack of Swords Dance allowed you set up for a powerful attack on turn 2.  Slash was 3 Colorless for 30, or 60 after a Swords Dance.

Overall

Jungle Scyther was a phenomenal card during the early days of Pokemon.  It could take on the some cards in the powerful Haymaker deck, and even joined some Haymaker decks.

Pojo’s Original Big Book of Pokemon – c2000

I went back and pulled out an old Pojo’s Big Book of Pokemon from 2000, and I saw we rated this card a 5 back then.  This card was a huge star for about 2-3 years, and I’m still going to rate it a 5.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
