We finish off Zexal throwbacks this weekend and look at an extremely simple concept from that anime: Overlay Network.

Overlay Network is a Continuous Spell that lets you use either of the following effects, but you only get the choice once a turn. You can target a face-up monster you control to Special Summon a monster with the same Level from your hand or graveyard in Defense Position, but its effects are negated you can only summon Xyzs from the Extra Deck for the rest of the turn, or you can target an Xyz Monster you control to add a card attached to it to your hand. The first effect is alright, as it does get you another body on board to make an easy Xyz Monster by giving you the other body you need to perform said summon. The second effect is fairly unique, as we don’t have many cards in the game to let you add Xyz Materials back to your hand, and this is extremely generic. It’s basically a generic Xyz support card and it really isn’t half bad. Kind of wish it had Xyz in the name to be searchable, but it’s still fine as is since not many cards do what it does with such ease.

Art: 5/5 Yeah, it’s literally the Overlay Network from the Zexal anime.
