It’s going to take me at least some months to remember what connive does – and the fact that part of it appears on numerous red and blue cards, un-keyworded, actually makes it harder! Jokes aside, it’s an interesting twist on the Mystic Snake/Frilled Mystic style of cards, because it’s arguably an even better fighter than either of them if you don’t have a spell to bounce. The price of this, of course, is three different colors plus not being able to counter a spell permanently (though it comes close with the likes of Hypergenesis). That means there’s a very specific niche for it, but one it fills well.

A bit of a tempo play of sorts, Obscura Interceptor is a decent piece for the deck that wants to react and make sure their opponents do Nothing. For four mana, you get to bounce back an opponent’s spell and get up to a 4/2 with lifelink (as well as looting a card). The low toughness may seem like a hindrance, and it’s definitely not ideal, but being able to throw an opponent off and swing the game off of it isn’t so bad. It’s not a perfect answer, but it’s a fine answer in terms of buying you time to find a proper answer, and even if you needn’t bounce a spell, you can still get good mileage out of this turning sideways or taking out a pesky attacker with its solid base power.

Constructed: 3.75 (constrained a bit by being three colors, but it’s a great tempo play for its cost)
Casual: 3.5
Limited: 4 (most remarkable as a potential 4/2 with lifelink)
Multiplayer: 3
Commander [EDH]: 3.25

An okay bounce spell but it is too expensive in my opinion to be worth it outside of limited.  Sure you get to connive but have a 3/1 or a 4/2 is not worth it.  I think the extra one is what is putting this over the edge to be playable in constructed.  Not much else to say about this card, if you are going for Esper colors in limited it is worth using but it is not worth building around at all.
