Going back to the 5D’s era now, an era I’m extremely fond of alongside GX, and a card I remember as a kid thinking the concept was super cool, even if 12 years on we’ve seen several of its kind now. I’m talking about Formula Synchron.

Formula Synchron is a Level 2 LIGHT Machine Synchro Tuner with 200 ATK and 1500 DEF. Okay DEF on a Level 2, always like LIGHT and Machine, and being a Level 2 Tuner is great. Any Tuner and non-Tuner summons this, basically just 2 Level 1s since that’s the only way in the game to add to 2. Upon Synchro Summon, you can draw a card. Free draw power is nice, just note the “when” if you summon this later in a Chain Link like with Halqifibrax, cause this can miss the timing. Second effect is a Quick Effect in the opponent’s Main or Battle Phase to Synchro Summon, as long as you use this as material. Cool way to summon a Synchro on the opponent’s turn that can disrupt them like Black Rose Dragon or Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier (assuming you make sure they don’t miss timing as well). Formula Synchron is still a handy little card, helped us make Shooting Star Dragon and Shooting Quasar Dragon back in the day being the only good generic Synchro Tuner. Still a decent card, even if Halqifibrax is summoning this more than you are doing a proper Synchro Summon.

As our nostalgia weekend trip continues, we move into the 5Ds era with Formula Synchron. This card was one of a kind (the first of its kind) being a Synchro/Tuner, which did become rather important for character ace Monsters, as well as others.  Being Level 2, means you need a Level 1 Tuner and a Level 1 non-Tuner, so that can be a bit difficult at times but a free Draw upon Synchro Summon is fantastic.  Being able to Synchro during your opponent’s Turn, even if it’s just the Main Phase, is also rather delightful.  Dropping any big or Extra Deck card when it’s not your Turn is amazing.  You do have to use Formula Synchron for said Synchro, but using what you have is fair, especially when it’s the card having the Effect.  As a whole, Synchro Tuners never quite caught on, aside from a handful of cards, but if you’re using some, maybe any, I’d give this guy a go.
