Barrier of the Voiceless Voice – #PHNI-EN067

While you control “Lo, the Prayers of the Voiceless Voice” and a LIGHT Ritual Monster, your opponent’s monsters can only target Ritual Monsters for attacks, also your opponent cannot target LIGHT monsters you control with card effects. During your Main Phase: You can add 1 “Voiceless Voice” card or 1 “Skull Guardian” Ritual Monster from your Deck to your hand, except “Barrier of the Voiceless Voice”. You can only use this effect of “Barrier of the Voiceless Voice” once per turn.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Barrier of the Voiceless Voice is the Continuous Spell that was referenced on Monday and is key to really getting an advantage in the archetype.

Searchable with Lo, the Prayers of the Voiceless Voice, you can force your opponent to only target Ritual Monsters with attacks if you control both a LIGHT Ritual and Lo. Lo can’t protect herself against pretty much anything in the game, so that effect was much needed. You need Lo on the field for your Skull Guardian to maximize its potential, but also to fuel more Ritual Summons. Targeting protection for all LIGHT monsters via card effects as well essentially cancels any chance of spot removal as long as you keep a LIGHT Ritual Monster on the field alongside Lo. This protection combination works wonders with the new Skull Guardian Ritual we’ll review on Friday.

Once per turn search for any monster in the archetype makes Barrier a RoTA each turn for Voiceless Voice. Each time Lo is Normal or Special Summoned she will search another copy as well, keeping your ability to search your Deck available.

While Barrier of the Voiceless Voice has no protection as a Continuous Spell, it protects pretty much the entire archetype. It protects any LIGHT monster from targeting card effects and forces your opponent to attack your bigger Ritual LIGHT monsters, as long as you keep Lo and one on the field. Once per turn search gets you to monsters in the archetype or your Skull Guardian Ritual Monster (the other Rituals in the archetype can be generic searched). Both non-Ritual Monsters in the archetype (Saffira and Sauravis) can be 1-card Ritual Summons themselves. Barrier can do a lot if you can have Lo and a LIGHT Ritual Warrior or Dragon on the field.

With Lo getting to your Continuous Spells and Traps, we have to cover one of them, so let’s go with the best one in Barrier of the Voiceless Voice.

Barrier is a Continuous Spell that while you control both Lo and any LIGHT Ritual Monster, the opponent can only target Ritual Monsters for attacks, also your LIGHT monsters are untargetable by the opponent’s card effects. Protecting your smaller monsters from attacks by having them directed to your likely bigger Rituals is nice, but blanket targeting protection from the opponent’s stuff for all LIGHT monsters is fairly strong and limits the answers they’ll have for your cards. If that wasn’t enough, then during the Main Phase you can also search for any Voiceless Voice card or Skull Guardian Ritual that isn’t this card, meaning you get searches every turn for a piece you need to make your plays. It’s nice to include Skull Guardian still, but you’d only run the new one now, which is already a Voiceless Voice card. Still at least future proofs for if we get more Skull Guardians at least? Hard once per turn on the search, of course. Being targeting and attack protection while also searching for an in-archetype card every turn makes this do almost everything for the Voiceless Voice archetype besides doing the actual Ritual Summons. Play 3 and hope to see it as quick as possible, which should be easy with 3 Lo and all the ways you’d likely be running to get to her.

We’ve mentioned it several times already, but this card’s important enough to justify it! Barrier of the Voiceless Voice is a Continuous Spell, searchable with Lo, the Prayers of the Voiceless Voice. Unless you already opened it, it’ll be the primary search target with Lo; otherwise you should search Radiance of the Voiceless Voice. While Barrier is active, if you control Lo and any LIGHT Ritual monster, all of your LIGHT monsters will be protected from targeting effects, and your opponent can only attack Ritual monsters. Having protection is great, since the deck’s boss, Skull Guardian, lacks it, and protecting Lo can prevent a cheap death from piercing damage or simply destroying Lo by battle to turn off the boss’s negate. Barrier has a sole hard once per turn activated effect during the Main Phase, letting you search any Voiceless Voice card except itself or a Skull Guardian Ritual monster. You should search whatever you need at the time, but if you don’t have it yet, you should search Saffira, Dragon Queen of the Voiceless Voice; then, you can discard Saffira to search Skull Guardian and immediately summon it with Saffira’s effect, ending on a solid board given the simplicity of the combo. Not much else to say about Barrier, I just wish combo routes were a bit more flexible so that it could be a starter without other cards.

+Strengthens the standard endboard
+Provides a search every turn
-Doesn’t fully combo on its own
