Dark Paladin

Tuesday

Let me start by saying I'm not a big fan of the "Watt" monsters in general. Wattchimera is a Level 6, Thunder-type, Light attributed Synchro monster, with 1400 attack and 1200 defense, which is almost enough to throw it away...or at least hold on to look at.

Wattchimera is Synchro Summoned specifically with one "Watt" Tuner and one or more non-Tuner monsters. Now, Wattchimera can attack your opponent directly, 1400 attack, mehtachular. When this card inflicts damge to your opponent, which he should at least once, being able to attack directly, your opponent randomly places a card from their Hand back to the top of their Deck.

Direct attack is good, damge equals hand disruption is at least as good, if not better. Level 6 Synchro, requiring a specific type of Tuner, a specific non Tuner(s), and such a paltry attack and defense score...they kill this card. I'm not sure if I'd use it even in the only real Deck it belongs.

Wattchimera ...

He's fairly weak for a 6 Star Synchro monster ... and he requires very specific materials to build him - a Watt Tuner and Thunder type non-tuners, so u can see that he's only built for a special type of deck ... but all that aside - Wattchimera is pretty cool. He's only 1400 ATK but can attack your opponent's lifepoints directly, and when he does and inflicts battle damage, instead of discarding a card from your opponent's hand, u put that card back on the top of their deck. Awesome. Plenty of cards thrive in the graveyard. Others get their kicks out of being discarded. But NONE (except in some cases Infernity Archfiend) get any benefits from returning from the hand to the top of the deck. So denying your opponent access to their resources - namely - the next card in their deck - is a brutal, frustrating, and effective duel mechanism. With the right setup, the Chimera can set up an unbreakable lock. The only difficulty would be making the other Watt monsters work for u, and they have potential, but as of yet - are still pretty unproven.

Today we look at a Synchro monster for the Watt family.  I’ll start by pointing out that this is a Level 6 and that you have to use a Watt Tuner and one or more non-Tuner Thunder-Type monsters.  This doesn’t make it impossible to Summon, but significantly restricts the kind of deck you can run this in… namely a Watt deck, a Thunder deck, and a hybrid deck using one or both of the preceding.

Wattchimera is a Light Monster, and that is great: fits the theme and allows it to use Honest.  It has a poor 1400 ATK and 1200 DEF.  Both are far too low unless the effect is brilliant.  The effect is… that it can attack directly and if you inflict Battle Damage to the opponent with a direct attack, you can place 1 random card from your opponent’s hand on top of their deck.  That is a good effect and might make it worth building a deck around this thing.

Utilizing protective cards like Messenger of Peace, Wattchimera will be able to safely peck away at your opponent’s hand.  With a few other control cards, you could strip your opponent’s hand quickly, leaving them helpless before repeated attacks and of course, winning the game.

This seems like a decent card and it could prove formidable via some combo or even full deck build I am missing.  I’ll finish off the review by commenting that the name is suited to art and using a chimera for a Synchro monster also makes sense.  The effect also seems fitting due to the other Watt monsters.

I am still selling my former collectables on eBay.  I’ve had a lot of hobbies over the years, so at various times I’ll have comic books, manga, action figures, and video games on the auction block.  You can take a look at what’s up for bids here.  I usually add new stuff on Wednesdays and Saturdays.  Just a reminder, Pojo is in no way responsible for any transactions and was merely kind enough to let me mention the auctions here. ;)

Wattchimera

Welcome to a new week of reviews, and we actually have some surprise hit cards for you from DREV this week. This first one is Wattchimera, the first of the Watt monster Synchros and so far, their "boss" monster. I have to say, this card is not very impressive if it is. It has truly pathetic stats. It is a LIGHT Thunder Synchro that is 6 stars with 1400 ATK and 1200 DEF. Well, these are probably the worst of the worst, as it will suicide with Dekoichi and Recruiters, making 1400 the worst ATK to have in the game. 6 Stars means that it is competing for a deck slot against Brionac, Armed Wing, Goyo and Hyunlei. It even needs specific material monsters, a Watt tuner and a Thunder non-tuner.

Maybe the effect will make it worthwhile. It can attack your opponent directly, which is excellent, and if it deals damage it can take a card from your opponent's hand at random and put it on top of their deck. Where have I seen a card like this before? Oh yeah, X-Saber Urbellum has an effect like this, and it is easier to get out (level 7) is an X-Saber and has 800 more ATK. The good thing is that it can attack directly, but there are a myriad of better ways to attack directly, like Shooting Star Bow-Ceal, or even some of the lower end Watt monsters.

As it is, this card is not up to the current format. It is too hard to bring out and it's effect is rather lackluster, not to mention that it's stats are incredibly bad. Truly, this is binder fodder util we get more Watt support that is actually good.
