Dark Paladin
Tuesday

Lava Dragon, a Level 4, Fire type Dragon, (statistics which shocked Yugioh players across the land) who has 1600 attack and 1200 defense...

Anyway, you can tribute this card in face-up Defense position to Special Summon two Level 3 or lower Dragon-type monsters...one from your Hand, and one from your Graveyard. Special Summoning is good, and this is technically a +1. You replace this monster, and get another.

There are some Dragons that fit well into the category too...Masked Dragon for instance. But the huge setback here is the text that reads "face-up Defense position". That almost single-handedly kills this card, in my opinion.

Ratings:

1/5 both formats...it does do something, but not well or consistantly...

Art: 4/5 Purple, with green eyes, and eight legs? This card might be better off as an alien.

General Zorpa Lava Dragon

Well, he is a lava dragon. He is a level 4 1600 ATK Fire Dragon. Not that bad, but not that great either, especially since he doesn't pump himself or anything. The effect is what MIGHT get him played in a casual game.

You can tribute him while in DEF position in order to Special Summon a level 3 or lower Dragon from your graveyard and from your hand/ Well, since you ar enot getting free cards like with Rescue Cat (one is from your hand). Note that if you do not have a level 3 or lower Dragon in either place you cannot activate his ability. The other thing is that it is really hard to get him on the field in face up defense position.

However, you can make it better by using such cards as Level Limit Area B and Stumbling, which not only slow your opponents down but also can help you set up. now if only there were some level 3 or lower Dragons that were worth getting. Decoy Dragon, Masked Dragon, Twin Headed Behemoth and Hunter Dragon are the only ones that come to mind right away. Oh wait! Tuners! we have the level 1 White Stone of Legend and level 2 Magna Drago.

You can do some pretty cool things with this card, but in order for him to do anything you need to do some pretty aawkward combos which are really not worth the reward that you get from him.

Lava Dragon

Today’s card up for review is Lava Dragon. This guy would have been somewhat interesting if his effect stated you could get the Level 3 monsters from the hand and/or graveyard. Because they worded it that way, it lost A LOT of power. The effect is still decent, but he will now be inconsistent when you use him. It’s nice to see forgotten typed such as Dragons to get new support, so I can’t complain there. It is also eh that this guy has to be in face-up defense for the effect to happen, but luckily Masked Dragon can summon a dragon in attack or defense. If you have this guy in defense, and you have the qualifications for his effect, he can make an instant Synchro for you, so that is a big plus!

Lava Dragon …

Thank you. This one will be an easy one. It’s crap. I hate just about everything about this card. Its like they took every chance to make this card suck. Ok – 1600 ATK. Crap for a 4 star Monster. It’s even worse than 1500. 1500 is at least Sangan-able, and UFO-turtle-able … but they made it 100 points stronger, just out of reach of any shortcuts … and for what? Then the Fire attribute … not the worst – but then – who cares? 1200 DEF? – meh.

Now its effect – more crap. First this thing has to be face up AND in DEF position. Yikes! Good luck with that! And THEN u have to special summon 2 monsters at the same time, and specific leveled monsters (level 3 or lower), and they both MUST be available from specific places (from your hand AND the graveyard) … yeah … Garbage.

Even the picture is stupid looking.

Lava Dragon is todays Card of the Day, and this little guy is pretty cool. 1600 attack, 1200 defense and a new dragon among the fire attributed monsters. You can tribute it while its in face-up defense position to special summon 1 level 3 or lower Dragon-Type monster from your hand and 1 from your graveyard. This comes in handy since staple dragon cards like Masked Dragon and Twin-Headed Behemoth are level 3 dragons. You can also bring out Magna Drago from the hand or graveyard too. Having only 1200 defense makes it rather hard to put it in defense to get its effect. 1600 attack is easy to get over as well as 1200 defense, add defensive cards like Dimensional Prison and Shrink to help keep it on the field.

Lol Pisko Lava Dragon

Lava Dragon would way better if it was just "tribute this face-up monster" instead of face-up defense, so we have to try harder I guess. If you do manage to get its effect off, you are very limited on good targets. All you really have is Red Eyes B. Chick, Magna Drago, The White Stone of Legend, and Troop Dragon. So already all you can abuse is a quick Armory Arm. If you're lucky you can get Red Eyes B. Chick and White Stone of Legend, tribute the Chick for Red Eyes B. Dragon, then Synchro for a Level 8. Another fun combo that completely wastes your hand, would be to play Summoner Monk, discard a Spell, special summon Lava Dragon, tribute for Red Eyes B. Chick and Magna Drago, Synchro the Drago and Monk for Goyo, tribute the Chick for Red Eyes Black Dragon for 5500 damage. Even that isn't really worth it. This card seems really fun, but I wouldn't play it in a large scale tournament.

Also, this is my favorite card to use for a proxy, so at least it has some use.
