Dark Paladin
Tuesday

Today we look at a monster that has grown insanely popular as of late, and he hasn't been reviewed since he came out in Shadow of Infinity. I am of course referring to Demise, King of Armageddon.

This is one of those cards that I said was going to be good--very good when it came out. I was wrong...no one played it. It was a Ritual...an 8 star Ritual. No one cared for a 2400 attack 8 star Ritual who had a CED-like effect.

However, fast forward one year into the dueling future...Chimera is everywhere, as is Chimera OTK. Diamond Dude Turbo is everywhere.
Monarchs are (still) everywhere, and we have Gadgets everywhere else.
Finally, people looked at Demise and said WOW!

I can give up 2000 Lifepoints to destroy ALL cards on the Field, and hit my opponent for at least 2400 damage, assuming you do this in your Main Phase before you summon something else. That usually would mean game.

If that weren't enough, people also decided to start playing Exodia/Demise decks so they have a fail-safe. Demise was, and still is an excellent card...for some reason, it just took people a long time to figure out.

Ratings:

Traditional: 1/5 Why this instead of CED?

Advanced: 4/5 Being a Ritual isn't the best thing in the world, but it helps add some balance to a very powerful card.

Art: 3/5 He doesn't look tlike the King of Armageddon

You stay classy, Planet Earth :)

Demise :
Ritual = bad.

As I've said before, this almost makes me like a ritual monster. Two different monsters come from the same tribute spell, the stats are reasonable, and it could possibly make up the card decifict. However, it is rare an opponent will commit enough resources for the 2000 LP bomb to be much use against the huge investment.

Traditional: 1/5
Advanced: 1/5

Share and enjoy,

Demise, King of Armageddon

5/5

This is by far the best ritual monster in the game. But the reason for the perfect score goes to the fact his deck (The Demise OTK Deck) is not possible without this big bruiser. The ability to nuke the entire field is downright powerful. Advanced Ritual art makes him an inherit plus upon summon, and he is a good attacker in his own right. Lets not forget he is 8 stars and as such implies this guy grants metamorphosis a chance to shine once more.
Turkeyspit Demise King of Armageddon

Yu-Gi-Oh is really a funny game. So often we get cards that, when released, are instantly dismissed as being less than stellar, only to see it part of some killer deck several months/years later.

Chaos Sorcerer, Sakuretsu Armor, and Last Will all went through this process, and Demise is the newest addition to the "all of a sudden this card rocks" club.

Thanks to Advanced Ritual art and a little deckbuilder creativity, we now get to enjoy the Demise / Doom Dozer OTK deck, and it works as follows:

Essentially you dump 2 Normal Insect-type monsters into the Graveyard with Advanced Ritual Art and summon Demise. Using his effect, you then nuke the field, clearing away any Monsters or Spells/Traps out of your way. You now remove from play from your graveyard those 2 Insect type monsters, and Special Summon Doom Dozer, and either equip it with Megamorph, or use Metamorphosis to Morph it into Cyber Twin Dragon; either way, it's GG.

By itself however, Demise isn't that good of a Ritual Monster. I'm sorry, but this guy just doesn't stand up to Dark Master Zorc, and if nobody had created the Demise-Dozer OTK deck, this card would still be seen as mere trade bait.

---------------------------

Traditional:
1/5 - Rituals?

Advanced:
4/5 - Only because it's part of an OTK deck. Had this been reviewed three months ago, the score would be much lower.

Card Art:
2/5 - The Punisher - Medevil style!

Today we review a card that got reviewed just over a year ago, and it’s going to get quite a different review today…

Demise, King of Armaggeddon
Level 8
Dark/Fiend
Attack 2400/Defense 2000

This card can only be Ritual Summoned with the Ritual Spell Card, "End of the World". By paying 2000 Life Points, destroy all cards on the field, except this card.

So, 2400 attack, so it can suicide with a monarch. 2000 defense means it can defend against anything less than a Cyber Dragon.

It’s effect is a big one with a BIG cost. 2000 points to “blow up the world.” I heard those four words said SO many times at SJC Columbus.

So, why is this card seeing so much play all of a sudden. It used to take AT LEAST 3 cards to bring it out. Demise itself, the Ritual, and an 8-star monster. Well, thanks to a particular ritual card released in the recent Strike of Neos set which will be reviewed later this week, and a mostly unplayed deck type with one particular big bruiser, Demise is suddenly getting a lot of hype.

By using cards like Sonic Bird, Manju, and Senju, to search out Demise, and the ritual card. And Card Destruction, Magical Mallet, and the like, you search through the deck to get the combo pieces. I’ll more clearly define the combo later this week, for those who don’t already know how it works.

To make a long story short, if you make the new Demise OTK, then obviously you are going to play Demise. Otherwise, stay away. It takes far too much to get it out, and you won’t want to run the new ritual in your usual deck.

Traditional: 2.5/5 (You wanna blow up the world, try CED)
Advanced: 5/5 (Demise OTK deck ONLY)
Art: 4/5 (Big armored knight with an axe! COOL!)

BobDoily Tuesday’s review

So today we look at Demise, King of Armageddon. He’s never been one of my favourites since he’s always felt like a poor attempt to replace the Envoys. Regardless of that he is starting to find his own niche that will have him remembered. Aside from the OTK he has little other use. Rituals themselves are relatively hard to manager, thanks to their huge cost in resources. The most played being Relinquished.

Ratings are hard to do. If you are building the OTK, then run him. If you aren’t, then he is useless.
