ExMinion OfDarkness
Widespread Ruin

As if three Sakuretsu Armor wasn't enough! (And in some cases, it isn't!)

Widespread is pretty much Sakuretsu but with one very minor downside and a couple of bigger upsides.

The worst-case scenario: Your opponent has Cyber Dragon + Don Zaloog out, you have Widespread down and a card you don't want to lose. Widespread's gonna take out Cyber but Don will hit your hand.

The normal scenario: You use Widespread just like a normal Sakuretsu when your opponent's Cyber Dragon or DDA attacks to leave them without a possible attacker.

Best-case scenario: Your opponent has Book of Moon either set or in their hand. They attack, you Widespread. The Book of Moon would entirely stop Sakuretsu Armor's destruction, but Widespread will just hunt out the next higher attacker, pretty much turning that Book into a -1.

Also, although they're not as common, there are monsters out there who have built in TARGETING effect negation -- this says nothing about non-targeting cards like Widespread.

If you don't have enough monster-kill, try these in addition to Sakus. If you DO, try these in place of some or all of your Sakus.

Coin Flip
Widespread Ruin is being played as another Sakuretsu Armor. Reasons for this are unashamedly obvious. Both destroy a monster upon attack.

Oh, do not under any circumstances activate Sakuretsu Armor before you activate this. Use this card first at all points in time ever. Sakuretsu Armor is far better.

So basically, if you want more than triple Sakuretsu for defense… Try this out. I think Bottomless Trap Hole is going to come into fashion, though, what with Mobius floating around so much.

General: 3.8/5

Rj Today's card is Widespread Ruin, one of my personal favorite cards in the game, and one of the more popular cards played in today's metagame.

It's a trap, spell speed 2, and its effect, basically, reads: "Activate this card when your opponent attacks, destroy the attack position monster on his/her field with the highest attack". Basically.

More or less, this is a sakuretsu armor, if you're running 3 Sakuretsu Armors, and want even more monster removal in the trap area, go for Widespread Ruin, or Bottomless Trap Hole. Stop! This is a big choice ^_~. This formats newest This over That battle is...

BTH VS. Widespread Ruin

Of course, this choice is meta dependant, what I mean is if everyone at your local tournament (Or regional, if its REALLY local) plays 2 mobius a piece, or more, you want BTH over Widespread, playing Bottomless takes away the 2-1 potential of Mobius, most of the time ;|.

But on the same note, Widespread may be a better choice, if all you see is tomato control/other jank stuff with Dons, Reapers, Tomatoes etc. You may want to use Ruin because it kills said monsters, obviously.

Over all, widespread ruin is one of the better cards being played today, definitely a regional winning/sJc top 8'ing worthy card (Was that even a sentence? ;p), but I personally would run Sakuretsu over it if applicable, but if you're maxed out, by all means, Use this!

Traditional: 1/5

Advanced:: 3.9/5

Limited: How can I rate a video game card? Oh well, 5/5.

Dark Paladin
Widespread Ruin is our card today, and the ruin is far from widespread.
In short, if your opponent's monster attacks, destroy the monster with the highest attack on your opponent's field. This card can definately be used as standard tech, or a solid side deck choice at the very least. I don't mean to be so short today, but I don't have much to say about Widespread Ruin other than I don't really care for it.

Ratings:

3.5/5 tech/control all around
4.0/5 side-deck

Art: 2.5/5 Not very nice, it looks like the blob

You stay classy, Planet Earth :)
