Pojo's Yu-Gi-Oh Card of the Day

Terrorking Archfiend

Card Number - DCR-072

Ratings are based on a 1 to 5 scale
1 being the worst.  3 ... average.
5 is the highest rating

Date Reviewed - 01.01.04

wartortle32 Terrorking Archfiend

(Dark/Fiend/4/2000/1500)
You cannot Normal Summon or Flip Summon this card unless you have an Archfiend Monster Card on your side of the field. The controller of this card pays 800 Life Points during each of his/her Standby Phases (this is not optional). When this card is specifically designated as a target of the effect of a card controlled by your opponent, when resolving the effect, roll a six-sided die. If the result is 2 or 5, negate the effect and destroy the opponent's card. Also negate the effect of an Effect Monster that is destroyed by this monster in battle.

Here is the key monster in an Archfiend deck. While you cannot normal or flip summon it, you can still special summon or set it if you don't have another archfiend monster on the field. Therefore, it wont be a completely useless card in your hand if you don't have any archfiends out. 2000 ATK for a level 4 monster is great, allowing it to take out most level 4- monsters. It also has a DEF of 1500, making it searchable by witch. Plus it also has a effect negation ability, making this perfect for attacking face down monsters. It also has the ability to negate targeted effects, but with only a 1/3 chance, you wont get to use it that often. Finally, there is the cost, which you can easily take care of with Pandemonium.

In an archfiend deck, I'd give it 3.8/5. You should at least be running 2 if you're doing an archfiend deck.

Dark/Fiend - Level 4 - 2000/1500
Effect: You cannot Normal Summon or Flip Summon this card unless you have an Archfiend Monster Card on your side of the field. The controller of this card pays 800 Life Points during each of his/her Standby Phases (this is not optional). When this card is specifically designated as a target of the effect of a card controlled by your opponent, when resolving the effect, roll a six-sided die. If the result is 2 or 5, negate the effect and destroy the opponent’s card. Also negate the effect of an Effect Monster that is destroyed by this monster in battle.

Terrorking Archfiend is pretty much the most powerful "Chess Set" Archfiend. (Well, when they get around to making Infernalqueen Archfiend how it should be) With 1500 DEF, it can be searched by the Witch, and with 2000 ATK it's very powerful. The only bad thing about it is its upkeep that you must pay no matter what, but 800 LP isn't so bad in early-mid game.

One card that works great with Terrorking is Marauding Captain for an easy Special Summon. Note that Terrorking can only be Normal or Flip Summoned when you have another Archfiend on the Field. It can still be Special Summoned without that need, and you can still set it face-down on the Field.

It's got some nice powerful Effects, and I've talked more about Terrorking Archfiend (Genocide King Demon) in my article at the following link.

Ok, this card is the ultimate beatstick.....too bad it has a cost(800 LP), has to be summoned when an Archfiend is present, and on a higher note, can negate a targeting effect 33.3% of the time when it is the target. What I have noticed is that this card CAN be special summoned without an Archfiend present, or did upperdeck screw up another card’s text? Who knows anymore? Lol. Back to rating this card, he isn’t bad at all. I have one and may consider putting him in my deck just to see how he turns out. He may be a useless draw if your topdecking. But can’t all cards be useless draws (except for pot of greed).
I give Terrorking Archfiend a 7/10. He is strong, but has his restrictions.
f00b New Year’s Day 2004!

Terrorking Archfiend (Dark/Fiend/4/2000/1500)

You cannot Normal Summon or Flip Summon this card unless you have an Archfiend Monster Card on your side of the field. The controller of this card pays 800 Life Points during each of his/her Standby Phases (this is not optional). When this card is specifically designated as a target of the effect of a card controlled by your opponent, when resolving the effect, roll a six-sided die. This is indubitably one of the most sought after cards from DCR, and for good reason:

Pros:
+4 Star 2000 ATK
+Evasive through dice rolls
+Dark Balter/Ha Des effect is NICE
+Fiend = Necrofear fodder

Cons:
-It’s hard to summon the darn thing
-800 LP cost

Combos:
*Using Archfiends, using Pandemonium, basically that’s the only way to use this card

So you take great stats - 4 star 2000 ATK Fiend. Then you add one of the most ANNOYING effects in the game - the dark balter “negate effects” effect. Then you add AMAZING evasion with a 33.3% chance of negating a change of heart or snatch steal, etc. But you add the mandatory payment of 800 LP per each of your turns. And you add the inability to really successfully summon this card in any practical manner UNLESS there is already an archfiend under your control. And you’ve butchered a perfect monster.

That is, you’ve made it less playable, but still great. I would DEFINITELY play these in high counts in an archfiend deck, which is surprisingly a GREAT new successful beatdown in the current metagame. Running 3 means great advantage for you, etc.

However, they are hard to fit into any other deck, and are TORRENTIAL prone. What do I mean? Okay, first of all, think about running JUST this by itself in your control deck as effect-negating-TecH. The only way to get it out is via special summoning, meaning this is painful choice and graceful charity trash. And, there is no way for you to negate the 800 LP payment, although it is not much granted the fact monster cards don’t tend to stay out for very long anyway. It’s a great TecH card, but definitely hard to use, and a horrible top deck.

Now, try running it alongside your 2 Archfiend soldiers in your control deck. This I have seen many times, as Archfiend Soldiers literally replaced Gemini Elf as the standard 1900 Attacker (searchable by both witch and sangan but still powerful in defense). So you have an option of normal summoning terror king once you already have out your archfiend soldier. Thus, it is only natural to try and get both of them out on the field at the same time. This means you must be VERY careful when playing around opposing torrential tributes, because they can easily knock off two or three of your monsters just to activate the witch or sangan effect which you summoned this card to negate…ehh…Still it is useful here, and I don’t see why at least side decking it would hurt very much.

But it still shines the most in an all-out archfiend deck. You don’t have to worry about when to summon it. You don’t have to worry about the 800 LP payment. And hell, you don’t have to worry about opposing effect (non-flip effect) monsters! Simply a great card.

In limited, I wouldn’t chase after this card. It’s definitely not going to make a huge impact on the game. And if it does, it will most likely be in your opponent’s favor, as it is both too hard and too costly to play, especially without other archfiend backup.

Ratings:
Constructed - 2.8/5, 4/5 in an Archfiend Deck
Limited - 1.5/5 not that great of a card here…

Hope everyone is enjoying 2004 as we kick it off with a bang!

Easily the best Archfiend monster in the set. Terrorking boasts 2000 ATK for a level 4, 1500 searchable DEF, and a dark ruler effect. Terrorking is great when running next to Archfiend Soldier. Archfiend soldier is the powerhouse of the archfiend family, rivaling spear dragon and gemini elf in power. Having Archfiend Soldier and Terrorking is deadly, as Terrorking will nullify all effects, and soldier will cause some massive lp demolition. The negation effect is not all that great, but rolling a 2 or 5 isn't very difficult. However, playing this card should mean your deck is centered around archfiends. Don't just play him because you use Archfiend Soldier as your 1900 ATKer.

Tourney - (In an Archfiend deck) 4.8/5 - BROKEN

Draft - 2.1

Artwork - 4.5 - awesome artwork, very evil looking and fitting of the name.

Closing Line - MY EFFECT NEGATION TERRIFIES YOU!
