Pojo's Yu-Gi-Oh Card of the Day

Autonomous Action Unit

Card Number - MFC-032

Ratings are based on a 1 to 5 scale
1 being the worst.  3 ... average.
5 is the highest rating

wartortle32 Autonomous Action Unit

Pay 1500 Life Points. Select 1 Monster Card from your opponent's Graveyard. Special Summon it on your side of the field in face-up Attack Position, and equip it with this card. When this card is destroyed or removed from the field, the equipped monster is destroyed.

This card is basically a Premature Burial with an extra 700LP cost and only works for the opponent's grave. Similar to the card we reviewed yesterday, the 1500 LP really hurts this card. However, the worst part about this card is that you have very little control over the monsters that you can get consistently with this card game after game. Your own graveyard is easy to manipulate as you can dump high powered monsters in there with Graceful Charity or Painful Choice. But manipulating the opponent's Grave is very difficult as there aren't that many cards that allow you to do that. I suppose you could use Dark Designator to get something like Jinzo into the opponent's hand, Confiscate the monster, and then Revive it with the Unit. However, that requires 3 cards and isn't worth the 2500 LP total that you paid.

There are certainly other ways that you can manipulate the opponent's grave, although none are easy to pull off.

I'd give this card 2.9/5. High LP costs and the lack of being able to constantly revive a useful monster makes this card somewhat difficult to use.

Autonomous Action Unit can potentially aid you in a quick victory if your opponent's Field is clear. 1500 Life Points is a small price to pay when you're getting a Monster such as Jinzo or Airknight Parshath. But of course, Autonomous Action Unit is heavily relied on what Monsters your opponent is and isn't running. Against aggressive Beatdown decks, it generally won't matter as most of the Monsters will have at least 1800 ATK. And against Control, I never mind getting an extra Don Zaloog on the Field.

Like Premature Burial and Call of the Haunted, it is susceptible to Spell/Trap removal. It's a small price to pay for the possibilities.

What generally turns people off is the 1500 Life Point reduction. Though it may seem large, it is usually worth it. And seeing how Autonomous Action Unit isn't restricted, is IS worth playing multiples during the same turn if you know that your attacks will connect.

Lastly I will say that Autonomous Action Unit does take some skill to use correctly. There will be often times that it won't help you at all, and playing it could cost you the game, one way or another. Playtesting the card will decide whether or not it fits in your deck.

Even though 1500 Life Points make a much bigger difference in Limited, I would still run Autonomous Action Unit if I pulled one. Monsters are Monsters, and with less Trap cards to prevent your attacks in Limited, a swarm of Monsters will end the game very quickly.

At first glance, this looks like a pretty good card. Basically, a Premature Burial for your opponent's Graveyard. Stealing one of your opponent's dead monsters can certainly be gamebreaking, especially if it's Jinzo or something nasty like that.

Unfortunately, there are lots of things wrong with this. 1500 LP is too much to pay. Being an Equip makes it easy pickins. Also, the fact that it's from your opponent's Graveyard is actually bad since you little control over what goes into his/her Graveyard. Yes, you can use Confiscation but that's a tough combo to pull off. Don't forget the very real possibility of being countered with Mystical Space Typhoon, Imperial Order or Call of the Haunted.

I suppose this is an ok card if you can't afford anything better. Monster revival is generally a good thing but this has no place in any serious tournament deck.

Upsides:
Brings back a monster
From Opponent’s Graveyard
Common

Down Sides:
1500 LP payment
useless if there are no monsters in opponent’s Graveyard
only opponent’s graveyard

In casual, this card is definitely something to try out. Bring back an Opponent’s Jinzo is amazing. The LP payment is too High for my tastes though.

In tourney, this card doesn’t see play because of that High LP payment. If the cost were the same as Premature Burial, it would see just as much play as Premature Burial.

In Sealed, haven’t ya ever wanted to steal your opponent’s Blue Eyes right from their graveyard, but you already used Reborn and can’t get it back? Here’s the solution. That LP payment is still too high for my tastes though.

I give Autonomous Action Unit 5.2/10

Pros:
+Recursion

Cons:
+1500 LP
+Equip = removal spells eat this card alive

I really like this card…in limited. I mean, when it first came out, I’ll admit I just had to try it out in my standard deck to see if the extra recursion could make this the next monster reborn. But, NO. Okay, the first hesitation should be the 1500 LP payment. I expect something spectacular to happen when I pay LP, like a Confiscation for that pot of greed or a game winning scientist summoning a balter. But when I pay 1500 for this to grab their Jinzo only to get it MST-ed and get no effect, I don’t think it’s worth it.

But in limited, everything changes – there is a huge lack of removal, as well as a lack of recursion. But big beefy monsters are NOT lacking, thus this card is a huge pick for a draft, per say, I’d take it almost immediately for the special summoning capabilities which are g0dly in limited. Now, 1500 out of say 4000 LP is a huge payment, but eh, the effect wins games. Just be careful.

Overall, this card is just decent, although I do admit it has done well against me in the past, but only after my removal spells were used up. Test it out for yourself, but don’t bring this to the tourney in your main board =\.

Ratings:
Constructed – 2.5/5 it’s decent, but there’s too much removal
Limited – 4/5 the LP payment is a problem, but the effect is game-winning.

Ah... Autonomous Action Unit. Its just another Premature Burial but it only effects your opponent's monster. Like Premature you are basically destroying one of your M/T card slots. Paying 1500 lifepoints is a risky move and gives you limited choices. There are some benefits to this card however. You are reviving a potentially dangerous power house monster like Mystical Knight of Jakal or Jinzo. Another benefit un-like Monster Reborn, Call of the Haunted, and Premature Burial is this card is not restricted. Meaning you can virtually (if draw the right cards) pay 4500 lifepoints you get out three Blue Eyes White Dragons and attack for 9000 damage. Another plus is the fact that this Unit is a common card. With a common you may open-up three packs and get three. Now for the classic Pros and Cons:

Pros:
+ Monster advantage
+ Power houses available
+ Common

Cons:
- 1500 Payment
- Equip
- If this card is destroyed so is the equipped monster
- Only your opponent's monsters

If you are running a low-budget beatdown play it, it's a must unless it's themed. Autonomous Action Unit isn't bad but it has a large cost to play.

Rating: 1.9/5
Budget: 3.6/5
