Pojo's Yu-Gi-Oh Card of the Day

Maha Vailo

Card Number - MRL-012

Average Rating = 3.46 based on 5 reviews

Ratings are based on a 1 to 5 scale
1 being the worst.  3 ... average.
5 is the highest rating

Date Reviewed - October 1, 2002

wartortle32 Today is Maha Vailo.  This is one of the underrated cards in the magic ruler set.  She (yes, she) gains an extra 500 ATK boost for every card equipped to it.

This card is one of the best monsters in my opinion. With the right mix of equip magic cards, you can easily power her way up above 5000 attack points.

Unfortunately, since she does rely heavily on attack increases, she is very susceptible to reverse trap. One of those and your Maha Vailo will most likely go
down to around 0 attack points.  But who plays reverse trap anymore?

I give her a 3.4/5.  This isn't for all decks.  But if your deck heavily centers on equip magic, you should really think of putting this in as it would greatly help your deck.

Okay.  If you guys haven't figured it out by now, I like to compare Yu-Gi-Oh cards to Magic cards.  I know Magic better and it helps to put things in perspective.  Well, trying to do that today miserably failed.  Explanation:

Magic has a card very similar to this called Rabid Wombat.  It's a 2GG creature that is an 0/1 that does not tap to attack and gets +2/+2 for every enchant creature card put on it.  Basically, without enchantments, it totally sucked and was basically worthless, not to mention that you couldn't even play it until turn 4, and start powering it until turn 5.

Now we have Maha Vailo.  She can come down turn 1, and be a complete bad-ass in the same turn.  On top of that, even if you don't have a Equip card in hand, she's not great, but can somewhat hold her own at 1550 ATK.  Most any equip, though, puts her is definite threat range.

Does this card go in every deck?  Nope.  As a matter of fact, I wouldn't put her in most decks.  This, though, is not what Card of the Day is about.  You have to remember this - do most cards go in most decks?  Nope.  The thing to figure out is does that card have a deck or decks they go into at all, and if so, how viable/useful are they in those deck(s).

Maha Vailo has a deck.  As a matter of fact, she has her OWN deck, IMHO.  A deck with high numbers of Equip cards and some defensive creatures to hold off an opponent until you can find her and make her insane.  So, my rating reflects that in the right deck, she is crazy good.

Yonex Maha Vailo -- Tuesday

Introduction: Oh look I got a Blu Eyes White Dragon attack out on turn 1.
Bwhahahha

Light
[Spellcaster/Effect]

1550/1400
In addition to the effect of Equip Cards, the ATK of this monster is
increased by 500 points for each card equipped to this card.

Why should you use it?
*Can be huge
*No tributing to gain big monster
*Clear the way?

Why shouldn't you use it?
*Based on powerups
*Easily countered

Reasons: Well today we look at Maha Vailo (*cough cough* I know it's
someone's favorite card, not Nick by the way). This monster is pretty
dangerous if played right. One reason is for it's killer effect. For example
you attach a Axe of Despair to this baby, woah it grows to a 3050 ATK
monster without tributing, woah! Starting to like this now eh? Well this big
huge monster can be used to clear the way for some of your other monsters,
maybe Dark Elf? Even Jira Gumo? Well whatever you chose it's going to be
nasty either way. Well any deck based on a powerup wouldn't work, though if
this monster wasn't 1550, it would be so much ownage because you can Last
Will and Sangan/Witch it, which would totally be sick. Well now because of
that, I have mentally built this deck in my head and it would work, the only
problem is that the powerup idea. This makes it very easy to counter, most
decks run so much Monster Removal and Magics and Traps destructions, that
this baby will last maybe 2 turns.

Rating: Though it's very very easy to countered, I have to give credits for
this card, but this card must be used in combo, which makes it get a bit of
a lower rating. For this reason, I would give it a 3.5. Still a good card,
but not a great card.

Conclusion: Maybe there are others cards that can make a monster huge
without a drawback?

SomeGuy Tuesday - Maha Vailo

Maha Vailo is an interesting monster. At first it's just a pathetic 1550 ATK Super Rare. But, after you throw an Axe of Despair onto him, he jumps to a BEWD-ish 3050 ATK. Not bad.

Equip him with a single Megamorph and he's at 3600 ATK. Nice.

The main problem with Maha Vailo is that without an Equipment Magic attached, he becomes terrible. 1550 ATK isn't going to even begin to cut it. I advise not playing with more than two in your deck, unless your packing lots of Equipment Magic.

But regardless, if he does have some Equipment Magic attached, he's a force to deal with.

Rating: 3/5

Today is Tuesday, and we're going to look at a card that isn't quite as powerful as Delinquent Duo, but it's still formidable nonetheless, Maha Vailo.

Card Text:
Light/Spellcaster/4/1550/1400
Effect: In addition to the effect of Equip Cards, the ATK of this monster is increased by 500 points for each card equipped to this card.

Analysis:
(Starting today, I'm going to shorten my analysis of each card a little bit, because Pojo said I should.  I did a long review for Delinquent Duo yesterday because I like that card ^_^;;;)

This card makes excellent tech in a beatdown deck running Axe of Despair and Megamorph.  If you equip an Axe on this thing, it goes up to 3050, enough to destroy a Blue Eyes!  Equip it with Megamorph to get it up to 3600 to watch your opponent's jaw drop.  Even better, equip her (Edo says Maha Vailo is female) with 2 or 3 equipment cards and build her up to win in one turn!

Just watch out for Snatch Steal, as not only does your opponent gain control of it, it gets a +500 boost ._.

Should YOU play it?
If you are running a beatdown deck with Equips, tech 1 or 2 of these gals in.

Score:
Maha Vailo gets a 3.1 in my book.  If a Level 4 monster can get up this high with just one card equipped, I'll go with it.
