Linkslayer

A solid new monster to introduce players to the link format, Linkslayer is one of those necessary cards that will help links make their mark, but probably won’t have a long history. This might be power creep’s first victim in the new era.

Being an earth type and a Cyberse type is obviously appealing, lending the capability to link summon Missus Radiant, Honeybot and Decode Talker. Add in a free special summon from the hand and a convenient destruction effect, Linkslayer should be added in multiples to link decks, right? Probably, but I place severe doubt on his spell and trap killing ability. Discarding two cards is suicide in an era when Solemn Strike is still a near staple, especially now that players will be shying away from Dimensional Barrier (since it can’t stop links). But you can choose to discard just one, so there’s at least flexibility. I especially love this card in monster mash variants. However, as the Cyberse card pool grows, I can easily see Linkslayer being the first to go. It’s generic and risky, and it doesn’t produce plusses. However, being a level 5 monster that you can special summon is a serious advantage, especially now when decks are chock-full of level 3 tuners. I can’t stress how broken PSY-Framelord Omega is in the Zelda format. Summoning him is always a great way to win.

Right now, I love Linkslayer and he’s probably a must-run in link decks, especially the ones that use Honeybot and Missus Radiant, but I don’t see a great future. I think he’s simply a good card during this short time when we don’t have many link monsters or Cyberse monsters yet. As the amount grows, Linkslayer might be forgotten or come in and out of the meta for a while before eventually sticking to the collection binder.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Friday is here and Linkslayer is the monsters we're finishing up the week with.

2000ATK isn't too good for a Level 5, but with its Special Summon ability (you have no monsters) that ATK will have to do.  Linkslayer won't destroy Link Monsters with its effect, it will destroy spell/traps. Up to two spell/traps for up to two cards in your hand is a decent trade in my view. You use Twin Twister and ditch a card to destroy up to two, so that's an even break. This is a -1 but you still have a monster on the field. At Level 5 it could be used for a Synchro Summon, with Instant Fusion for a Rank 5, or be combined with another Cyberse monster for Honeybot.

An excellent first turn card to devastate your opponent and take field advantage.

We end this week off with a new card that is meant to help Link Summoning, and give you another reason not to play Cyber Dragon except in a Cyber Dragon Deck. This is Linkslayer.

Linkslayer can be Special Summoned if you control no monsters. Much easier to summon that Cyber Dragon, as Linkslayer doesn't require your opponent to have a monster. Linkslayer can also allow you to discard two cards to destroy two Spells/Traps on the field. Another reason why Cyber Dragon isn't needed, this card allows you to destroy Spells and Traps. This is a great card, and it being Cyberse helps for Honeybot and it being an Effect Monster helps for Decode Talker.

Long story, short, this card has a lot of potential, especially in Cyberse decks.
