Daily Since 2002!

Time Maiden

- #BLLR-EN035

If you control no monsters, you can Special Summon this card (from your hand). This card can be treated as 2 Tributes for the Tribute Summon of a "Timelord" monster. You can Tribute this card; add 1 "Timelord" monster with 0 ATK from your Deck to your hand. You can banish this card from your GY; Special Summon 1 "Timelord" monster with 0 ATK from your Deck, ignoring its Summoning conditions. You cannot Special Summon other monsters during the turn you activate this effect.

Time Maiden

This card is so good, it’s silly. Time Maiden is one of those monsters that you just know was expressly made to make formidable what otherwise would not have been a scary deck. A jack of all trades for Timelords with literally no setback. I wish Konami would make one of these for the Dark Magician.

In hand, Time Maiden is a plus, able to special summon herself and then tribute herself and search for a Timelord and then banish herself from the grave to summon another one. Her ability doesn’t extend to Sephylon, which is good, because that would have been bonkers. And being a level 1 light monster gives her a nearly limitless supply of methods to summon her. Ritual Sanctuary can completely abuse her and should be run in triplicate, especially in Lightsworn or Melodious hybrids. But there’s One for One, Burial from a Different Dimension, and Foolish Burial, as well. And even if you use none of those methods, Time Maiden is still good enough to be run as its own engine with just a few of the other Timelords. Special summon her, tribute for Zaphion, then banish her to summon another Zaphion that can proceed to unleash hell. I’ve seen the 6 card engine in a few decks, and it’s a bit scary sometimes.

But she’s best suited among other fairy types, and I honestly believe she’s going to be abused in a fairy deck someday. She has so many incredible effects, and that usually spells success in the long run. Just her ability to both retrieve and summon Zaphion is exceptional. To be able to special summon herself as a light level 1 monster is out of bounds. She gets the maximum future potential points.

Advanced: 4/5

Future Potential: 5/5

(On a side note, her effect to serve as 2 tributes for a Timelord is one of the stupidest, most unnecessary effects I’ve ever read. The only possible reason I can imagine why you would actually use Time Maiden as a tribute when you can normal summon all the Timelords without tribute, is if you have a card like Domain of the Monarchs out. But you wouldn’t be running such a card in Timelord decks. Dumb addition.)

Time Maiden has the lowest stats a monster can have. She is a Light Fairy that can Special Summon herself when you control no monsters. Then she can tribute herself to search any 0 Atk Timelord from the deck to the hand. If you already have a Timelord in your hand, she counts as two tributes for one of their Tribute Summons. The last effect let's you banish Time Maiden from the grave to Special Summon a 0 Atk Timelord from the deck by ignoring the Summoning Conditions. Even though the first effect blocks the use of the last effect with the wording "can't Special Summon other monsters during the turn..." this effect is still a great late game swing. The Timelords do return to the deck during the Standby Phase, so Maiden can tutor Timelords all day. This is a must run in the deck, and I look forward to seeing what the Timelord engine works well with.

We end this week off with an amazing card to help the Timelord archetype. Time Maiden!

This gal is a Level 1, so One for One is great for it. Keep that in mind. Maiden can be Special Summoned if you control no monsters. This is good first turn and with the fact the Timelords return to the deck during your Standby Phase. Maiden can be treated as 2 tributes for a Timelord. Honestly, this is irrelevant since Timelords can be summoned without tribute if you have no monsters. Next, Time Maiden can be tributed to search a Timelord with 0 ATK from the deck. Only 1 Timelord that was actually printed doesn't have 0 ATK, and that monster likely won't be run with the other Timelords. This effect also can leave you with no monsters, so you can likely summon the Timelord you searched. Finally, you can banish Time Maiden from the graveyard to summon a Timelord with 0 ATK from the deck, ignoring the condition that they can't be summoned from the deck. The only downside to this last effect is that you can't Special Summon the turn you use this effect. I'll just tell you all to look at what all the Timelords can do and then you'll see how versatile this can be.

This card alone can allow Timelords to be splashed as a small engine. This is amazing for this archetype.

Time Maiden

Finishing up the week is Time Maiden, and the BEST piece of support for the Timelord archetype. While it has 0 attack and defense on a level 1 light fairy, that is actually really beneficial, as she can be summoned out through One for One and other support.

And onto her effects. First up, if you control no monsters, you can special summon her. Now, while detrimental to the overall tactic of the Timelords in that you needd no monsters to normal summon them for free. Second, Maiden can be used as two tributes for a Timelord monster which is still pretty good for the archetype.

It's Maiden's 3rd effect that gets the ball rolling. You can tribute her to add ANY Timelord with 0 attack from deck to your hand, with no restrictions afterwards. And that leaves you with a normal summon still and no monsters on field if Maiden was special summone through her effect.

And lastly, you can banish Maiden from the grave to special summon a Timelord with 0 attack from your deck, ignoring it's summoning conditions. Unfortunately you can't special summon anything else for the rest of the turn.

Run in a dedicated Timelord deck, Maiden is an instant 3 of. And have a look why. Open with Maiden in your hand. You control no monsters so you can special summon her, then tribute her off to search for almost any Timelord you want, leaving you once again with no monsters and an available normal summon. Next you normal summon whichever Timelord you added to your hand, and finish up by banishing Maiden from your grave to special any Timelord from the deck.

So, off one card, you've thinned the deck by 2 and summoned a pair of monsters that can't be destroyed by battle or effects and will undoubtedly cause disruption to the opponent.

Advanced 5/5 obviously in Timelords only or in a deck that splashes them in.
