Acadamia descends on the TCG in the form of new Ancient Gear monsters starting next month. The first we will look at is Ancient Gear Hunting Hound, which might just be a super important card to the archetype when all is said and done. In Arc V, the minions of Acadamia all have Ancient Gear decks, and they use the Hunting Hound to fuse into two-headed hounds, three-headed hounds, and other-headed monstrosities. It was the base monster of that deck. Thus there is reason to believe he will be important if we are to eventually get all those cards.

His ability to fuse has potential only as much as those cards continue to come out, in fact. As of right now, there’s only the two in Raging Tempest, the same set Hunting Hound is coming in. But as I mentioned earlier, the anime showed many more fusion monsters that specifically listed this monster. If we get those, which is probable, Hunting Hound becomes a centerpiece to a strong deck that can do amazing things, the new Ancient Gear Golem notwithstanding. Luckily he can be special summoned, unlike other older Ancient Gear monsters. Another aspect I really like about Hunting Hound’s potential is that he’s not limited to once per turn. Should you fuse him with something else and then reset him onto the field, you can continue to fusion summon, which is kind of the point. Ancient Gears as constructed in the anime were made to overwhelm with fusion after fusion without severe loss of resources. As is expected, the reason is because Poly is no longer needed.

So, on a post-Raging Tempest basis alone, I can’t give Hunting Hound too high of a grade. His two available fusions aren’t spectacular (yet) so he doesn’t add anything superbly special to the Ancient Gear archetype (yet). But his future potential is very high thanks to the knowledge us anime-watchers have about the Ancient Gear fusions as a whole.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Been a while for Ancient Gears since they got some good support, Ancient Gear Hunting Hound is something they could use.

Searchable from different sources, a Level 3 that can use monsters on the field and in your hand to Fusion Summon an Ancient Gear gives the player more chances to summon any of the now 3 choices. Now you aren't relying on Power Bond or Poly to get you that summon, and in the case of the first choice, losing a great deal of LP if you don't finish your opponent that turn. With Hunting Hound, you have the potential to OTK your opponent if you have a hand of 3 Ancient Gears, using them and Hunting Hound to make Chaos Ancient Gear Giant. The 600LP burn effect upon Normal Summoned is also good, but not the real reason to play this card. With the new fusions for the archetype, and the old fusion choice an option, this card should be run in 3's in the deck.

Spooky card from the fuuuutttuuuuurrreee. Ancient Gear Hunting Hound is a Level 3 Earth Machine-type monster with 1000 Atk and 1000 Def. Ancient Gears get to attack without fear of Spells or Traps. However, attacking with 1000 Atk seems risky. The best part of the unique effect is to inflict 600 Direct Damage if it's Normal or Special Summoned. If you get all three to the field, then you can do 1800 Direct Damage. Soul Charge for game? Anyway, it's a good effect during the mid to late game.

The last effect is odd to me because I didn't know there were Ancient Gear Fusion Monsters. apparently there are/will be 3. Ancient Gear Hunting Hound can Fuse for any of them by using monsters from the hand or field as material. It's great that it doesn't have to use itself. Also, Defusion OTKs become possible, but they always do when Fusion is happening. In any case, more options for Ancient Gears are welcome, and Hunting Hound has good effects during all phases of play. Hence a really good score.
