Allure of Darkness

We’ve reviewed this card four times before, and as late as May 2016 all the reviewers told you what pretty much every player knows: Allure is stupid good. I predicted it would be banned, but to everyone’s surprise, it was returned to 3 instead. But I don’t feel foolish at all. This card has no business being at 3, just like Sixth Sense had no business existing. And so my only assumption is that it was returned to sell cards for current top themes like Dark Synchro, Burning Abyss, Zombie, D/D/D, etc.

I’m not going to go into in-depth analysis on a card reviewed four times already. This card is busted and will soon be back on the restricted or banned list. If people are willing to banish 10 cards face down multiple times in a duel just to draw 2 cards (Pot of Desires), you think people weren’t drooling at the prospect of having 3 spells that only banish 1? Stop it, Konami.

Allure of Darkness

I was uneasy when they laxed this card to 2.  I felt like this was a mindless card like Upstart Goblin that dark decks would use for extra speed, and that making this a 3-of would kill deckbuilding creativity.  It is, essentially, a 2-for-2 card with deckthinning and speed added on.  On the plus side, it will give a boost to many lower tier dark-based archetypes.  Higher tier dark decks often have equal or better options for speed and consistency, but low tier decks could benefit.

It looks like history sided against me, and I'll admit when I'm wrong.  The metagame has decided that banishing a monster from your hand, in fact, does detract from your potential advantage and combos.  It's not that power creep has directly made Allure obsolete, but moreso, more options have made deck spaces tighter.  Players often can't afford to banish one of their monsters, and sometimes they'd rather have an arsenal of powerful spells (and pendulums) than essentially reduce their deck count with draw power.

Hello Pojo Fans,

We live in a TCG format where Allure of Darkness is at three and IT MEANS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! I really hope this wasn't their idea of trying to make Shaddolls competitive again, because this won't help.

Now that that's out of the way, onto the review. AoD at three? Never thought I'd see that again, even with the shifting of the format time and time again. Draw two and banish a DARK monster, otherwise say bye-bye to your hand, pretty simple. If your opponent is stopping your banishing of cards, Allure becomes unplayable. This being at three doesn't change much. I'm not sure any deck would run three. Shaddolls? No. Phantom Knight/Burning Abyss? No. Not even Zombies will likely run three because of the variety in Attribute they can have. Dark Magician-based decks have a great deal of support now, so they don't need three Allures to help get them through their deck. One might argue they don't need AoD at all. Good card still, but likely no one is running three of it.

3. Allure of Darkness makes fans of other attributes jealous. Dark monsters have great effects and dozens of archetypes. Run 3. In non Dark decks, you could draw two cards and then send everything to the grave by effect. Run 3 now. Imperial Iron Wall can sorta sometimes make this +1. As Normal Spell "draw 2 cards" cards go, this and Pantheism are some of the best. Yeah Cup of Desires, but Allure of Darkness is at 3 now and Cup will be banned by an "emergency format list" soon. Are you running 3 yet?

T-REX Allure of Darkness

I, like many never thought that this card would once again see the light of day as a 3 of card, yet here we are, in that light of day.
Although maybe that should be dark of night since Allure of Darkness does indeed have "Dark" in it!

Obviously, any Dark type Deck currently, and in the future gains a huge boost by this being at 3, Burning Abyss (and variants) though probably gaining the most by this card increasing to 3, especially since they received a few, albeit minor hits with the Banlist.

Good card is really good, and there really isn't a lot more to say... Its at 3, if you can play it at 3, you are most likely to. Luckily Allure of Darkness has received a reprint of late, otherwise it would be an incredibly pricey card right now.

Rating: 4.5. The only negative is that you have to Banish one Dark monster as per its effect... And only those incredibly stupid or wise beyond most of us would activate Allure of Darkness without a Dark Attribute monster in hand.
