Toadally Awesome
- #INOV-EN052

2 Level 2 Aqua-Type monsters Once per turn, during the Standby Phase: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; Special Summon 1 "Frog" monster from your Deck. Once per turn, during either player's turn, when your opponent activates a Spell/Trap Card, or monster effect: You can send 1 Aqua-Type monster from your hand or face-up from your field to the Graveyard; negate the activation, and if you do, destroy that card, then you can Set it to your field. If this card is sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 WATER monster in your Graveyard; add it to your hand.

Toadally Awesome

Worst…rename…ever. The same guy who came up with “Magical Something” was probably charged with naming this monster. Wow, so bad. Right up there with Mystical Space Typhoon and Jinzo. In fact, for the rest of the review, I’m calling him by his OCG name, Mochi Toad or Treatoad. I just can’t handle that biz.

Treatoad is amazing, and would have been great with current support, but then the Paleozoic trap monsters were released as well. They had previously only been available in Korea, but were finally released to the rest of the TCG and OCG just weeks ago, probably in anticipation of the return of frog decks. I think what really got people excited about this particular monster wasn’t exactly its Solemn Judgment ability, but really it was the prospect of being able to steal what was negated. And make no mistake, that is exactly what makes Treatoad such a beast. Knowing an opponent has Solemn Judgment waiting is one thing, but knowing he can steal whatever card you sacrifice to blow it up is downright cruel. And let’s not forget this is a once per turn per monster effect! Three Treatoads with enough resources means a lockdown with greater potential than Herald of Perfection or Herald of Ultimateness.  And of course, to ensure its 5-star status, of course Treatoad will replenish your hand when it goes to the grave. And it’s ANY water monster? Busted.

Treatoad has more future potential than 99% of cards in the Yu-Gi-Oh library. Any future level 2 Aqua monster released will point to him immediately until the day he’s restricted, even if you don’t want to run even a single frog monster in your deck. I doubt he’ll ever be banned, however. Unlike Number 16: Shock Master, Treatoad isn’t capable of overwhelming without numbers. When he’s at 3, he’s a force, but at 1, he’s just another toad.

Wow..... This has to be the greatest card art I've ever seen in a long time, and I may not even be joking.  It's so aesthetically striking, yet pleasant.  I don't know what the frogs are doing to each other and why that apple has to be there for extra comedic value, but great job on that Konami.

But beyond that, it's a great Rank 2, exclusive to Frogs (and since most of those monsters are weak floaters, they need something powerful anyway).

  • 2200 ATK is really good for such a low rank.
  • You can get a +1 during your Standby Phase.
  • It replaces itself when it dies (so I guess, unfortunately, if it gets hit with Bottomless Trap Hole or something like that, you get nothing)
  • But the crown jewel is the negation effect which manages to be even better than Dark Paladin's effect, except it stops all types of effects with just the discard of what is likely a floater anyway.

Hello Pojo Fans,

One of the best named monsters in Yugioh, I think Yang Xiao Long named it.

Toadally Awesome is what Frogs needed when their stuff wasn't touched by the ban list. A Rank 2 with 2200ATK is really good, but you are restricted to only Aqua-Type monsters to use. It special Summons Frog monsters from your deck for each material you detach, but from the deck doubles as a deck thin. Need that Treeborn Frog? Detach during the Standby Phase, find that Frog and bring him to the field.

1-for-1 spell/trap negation ability with the added bonus of you gaining that card face-down on your field boosts this cards play. You force your opponent to activate spell/trap cards in a certain order to avoid your effect. Even if they take out all your Aqua-Type monsters from the field (aside from Toadally Awesome), you still can activate the effect with a discard from the hand, or even using Toadally Awesome as the cost.

Send is the key word. Toadally Awesome gets an effect when its sent to the grave. Any WATER monster in your grave comes back to your hand, even Toadally Awesome (though it will go to the Extra Deck). Any card that evens itself out after leaving the field is worth a look, but with that one word, "send" it opens up plays using Aqua monsters that gain effects off being sent.

Toadally Awesome is a Rank 2 Water Aqua-type XYZ Monster with 2200 Atk and 0 Def. It needs 2 Level 2 Aqua monsters to XYZ Summon, but the effects require Water or Aqua monsters anyway, so it can only be played in those decks to begin with. This card has decent Atk for Rank 2, and it even has 3 good effects. The only one that costs an XYZ Material let's you Special Summon any Frog monster from the deck, but only once per turn during the Standby Phase. I'm pretty sure it's either player's Standby Phase and multiple Special Summons per Toadally Awesome on the field. Deck searchers are great so it stands to reason that Deck Summoners are great as well. Restricting to Frog monsters only makes this card balanced.

The second effect can be activated any time during either player's turn and again only once per turn per Toadally Awesome. You can negate an activation of anything your opponent does and destroy the card at the cost of sending an Aqua monster from the hand or face-up on the field to the grave. Then you can set that destroyed card to your field. "Walking" Negation is very good. Between this and Cyber Dragon Infinity, XYZ monsters really like to negate and steal cards. The cost is very easy since Frog cards in general love to get back to hand or field.

As if that wasn't enough, Toadally Awesome has one final gift. It floats like a great big toad when it hits the grave and gives you any Water monster to your hand. I wonder if anyone will play Gale Dogra to get any Water monster from the grave at the cost of 3000 Life Points. Stranger things have happened. Happy Friday!

Toadally Awesome

Gee, Konami "Really" went out of their way with this one when it came to thinking of a name for this card...
If I had to guess, this cards name was probably decided upon during a drinking game of some sort or another!
And then there's that artwork... Lame!
Well, at least its a Secret Rare I suppose... Actually, that makes the last part of this card that is probably going to suck, its probable price tag.

BUT, aside from all of those former mentioned negatives, this card is going to be good, especially since its going to be rather easily Summoned via Bahumut Shark (Mermail/ Atlantean), and for "Frog's" this card is going to be very easily Summoned once, if not more per turn. And even when Toadally Awesome is sent to the Graveyard, if it does not choose to return another WATER monster, it is able to return itself to the Extra Deck, meaning that even if there is Extra Deck space for only 1 Toadally Awesome, this will be able to recycle itself over and over.

The noteable thing about the last part of Toadally Awesome's effect is that it is able to return any WATER type monster from the Graveyard to the hand, making this guy essentially generic in any Deck that runs WATER attribute monsters. Additionally, as long as this card is "Sent" to the Graveyard, you will be able to add a WATER type monster to your hand, thus if you are able to send this card from your Extra Deck, straight to the Graveyard, you'll also be able to gain this cards effect... Very handy indeed!

This is going to be a very powerful stun type card for many Decks, just like Laggia and Dolkka or Infinity have been during their own moments in time.

When this card is released, expect a surge in MermailAtlanteans and Frog Decks, plus, this also works in Paleozoics too! People are going to want to play this, and games where it is played could potentially have the outcome of a Duel decided by who gets this out first.

Rating: 4.5. Thankfully this cards Rank is low AND it requires 2 Aqua (but not necessarily WATER!) type monsters in order to Summon it, this means that apart from Frogs whom will be able to Summon this at a breeze, other Decks will likely be using Bahaumt Shark as a way to Summon this. If it were easier to Summon this cards Rating would for me be higher, although ironically, that this card can be Summoned via Bahumut Shark also makes this cards Rating higher! This will be a card to be fearful of, especially since the cards that you'll be trying to remove this with, can then be turned right against you, and that part of this cards effect is what will make this truly an adversary to fear.
