Shiranui Smith

Shiranui Smith is unfortunately the least useful of the base Shiranui monsters. And I’m talking way down the ladder. Solitaire is a 5/5 and Spiritmaster, Spectralsword, and Samurai are all solid beasts, but Smith is a weak, bearded kitten. It’s a stark comparison, really. The other Shiranui monsters all have the perfect wording to allow players to benefit, but Smith only has detrimental wording. You can only get his effect when sent as a synchro material? And it has to go to the grave? You can only protect from battle? Weak!

Look, I understand the searching part. Getting Swallow’s Slash early is super good. I get it. But let’s try to understand what we’re talking about here. You have to synchro summon to get his effect. When are you going to bring this out with another monster? Are you really going to summon him with Mezuki over Solitaire or Goblin Zombie? And let’s not forget that, unlike Solitaire, Smith has absolutely no harmony with Spiritmaster! If Smith had been able to get his search no matter where he ended up, he’d be a lot better. But he has to go to the grave and Spiritmaster banishes the monster it special summons. What a waste!

I really, really do not recommend this card, even as tech. There are so many better tech options for Shiranui Zombies (Like Fairy Tail – Snow, and the PK and Speedroid engines). Smith is as slow as he looks and gives you nothing more than a search now and then. Pass it up!

Baneful
  • It searches when used as a Synchro Material, so it breaks even in a specific situation.
  • Unfortunately, that's all that this card does.
  • There are few (if any) good Shiranui monsters, so that further lowers its utility.
  • Its stats are garbage.
  • Its banish effect is horrible
  • First of all, there are plenty of non-battle ways to destroy monsters.
  • Second, most likely, this effect will be triggered on your turn.
  • Why do you need protection from attacks on your own turn when you can simply just chose not to attack?!

Hello Pojo Fans,

You don't like seeing only 1000ATK on a Level 4, but Shiranui Smith is a searcher, low ATK is a balance. Use Smith as a Synchro material and you will get a Shiranui search. Banishing him will protect all Zombies of yours from destruction this turn by battle.

Protection from more than just battle would make this card a much better use for Synchro summons. This deck does a lot of banishing, so its effect will see play, but to get the most out of it you will have to banish it during your opponents turn.

Shiranui Smith is not the searcher I was hoping for. He is a Level 4 Fire Zombie-type monster with 1000 Atk and 0 Def. The stats are bad, and you can only search any Shiranui card except itself from the deck to the hand once per turn IF Shiranui Smith is sent from the field to the grave as Synchro Material. Then if he is banished from anywhere, he makes your Zombie monsters immune to battle destruction. With Samurai, this effect turns into a banish nuke against any monster. Without that, the combos and the Smith himself, aren't great.

Score: 2/5
Art: 2/5 Not enough Shiranui energy
