Dragonpit Magician
- #SDMP-EN002

Pendulum Effect Once per turn, if you have a "Magician" card in your other Pendulum Zone: You can discard 1 Pendulum Monster, then target 1 Spell/Trap Card on the field; destroy it. Monster Effect This gifted magician can awaken the energy stored in the deep places of the earth, known as the Pits of the Dragon. His stoic approach wins him few friends, and he often bends to the desires of his pupil.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Pupil yesterday, master today. Today's CoTD is Dragonpit Magician, master of yesterday's Dragonpulse Magician.

Dragonpit Magician completes the pendulum scale, as well as is another “Magician” Pendulum Monster to use in combo with other “Magician” cards. As searchable as yesterdays monster, Dragonpit Magician is the spell/trap killer of the combo with Dragonpulse Magician. A -1 to start, but a 1-for-1 for every turn after, Dragonpit Magician may be better than Dragonpulse Magician because the spell/trap doesn't have to be face-up, unlike the monster being targeted by Dragonpulse Magician.

Target any spell/trap you want on the field. If you need a different Pendulum Monster, clear your own zone, clear a Continuous Spell/Trap that is dead on the field, or target any spell/trap your opponent has and disrupt their strategy.

While you won't be Xyz Summoning with this card, it helps the combos with other “Magician” Pendulum Monsters.

The other half of the starter deck combo maker is Dragonpulse Magician. He is a Level 7 Water Spellcaster-type Pendulum Monster with 900 Atk and 2700 Def and Scales of 8. The stats aren't as good as yesterday's Dragonpulse Magician. Level 4 is better, 1800 Atk is better, and even the 900 Def is better (in Traditional, lol).

Like it's counterpart, Dragonpit Magician only has a Pendulum Effect with the same cost of discarding a Pendulum Monster to activate. Instead of targeting monsters, he targets Spells or Traps. At least it doesn't have to be face-up. Fortunately for Dragonpit, being able to destroy one of your own Pendulum Zone Monsters is good as it would send it to the Extra Deck.

Sigh.... I went into this review thinking that this a nd its twin card from yesterday were going to support both Spellcasters and Dragons. I'm disappointed, but only slightly.

It'd be easy for me to go “Second verse, same as the first” with this review; in fact, I debated on whether or not to review these cards together. But ultimately, this and Dragonpit stand out in their own way. On one hand, you have a Pendulum Magician who likks one Monster on the field with its effect, and it actually works as a good starting Monster with 4 stars and 1-ATK. On the other hand, you get this: a Star Magician with low ATK but a very high DEF of 2700, AND he can summon much bigger monsters with his 8-scale stat.

Then we get to his effect: very similar to Dragonpulse's, but this time it targets 1 Spell and Trap card at a time. A fairly easy alternative the MST and similar cards, if that's your bag.

I've also failed to add yesterday that both Magician effects only work when they're Pendulum Spell cards; without it, Dragonpit is nothing more than a flashy wall of defense, while Dragonpulse can sort of hold his own in battle. Personally, I'd go with both cards in the same deck, but you could choose one over the other depending on your flavor. And I for one like the variety they brong to the game.

...Still waiting on that Dragon/Spellcaster support though.

Final Score: 3/5- Only useful in Pendulum decks, but works great with Dragonpulse
