Solemn Strike is an obscenely overpowered counter trap which just hit the TCG in Breakers of Shadow. To make matters worse, the card is actually now searchable through the new pendulum monster Guiding Ariadne. This card is so ridiculously strong that it allows you for the cost of only 1500 life points, to negate a special summon of a monster or MONSTERS (applicable for pendulum summons, they will all be going to the grave after this) and destroy them, OR you can negate a monster effect and destroy it as well!

Now obviously by the time you read this, your head is already spinning, you know this card is unbalanced, we know this card is unbalanced, hell, Konami knows this card is unbalanced! And just to make things more interesting and "fun for you" they put it at 3. Is it to sell breakers of shadow set, which solemn strike is conveniently printed as a "secret rare" in?

 ABSOLUTELY.

Sad state of affairs, and a sad time for the game, but hey, play it or get sacked.

Ratings:

Advanced:   5/5
Mechanic Design: 2/5 (BLATANTLY overpowered, most likely going to 1 after Konami finishes selling all of the Breakers of Shadows sealed boxes this format )
Art:  4.5/5 (this is the type of card art that keeps me coming back to this game, ongoing solemn theme, divine retribution, punishing the peasant, I love it)

Hello Pojo Fans,

“Solemn” Counter Trap Cards have had trouble grounding themselves in the meta since Solemn Warning. With Judgment banned, Warning to 1, and Scolding no one plays. Solemn Strike may turn the tide.

1500 Life Points isn't bad to counter a monster effect or a Special Summon. Low cost with high reward is one of the main rules to play by for selecting cards in Yu-Gi-Oh. Veiler, Breakthrough, and Fiendish all negate but do not destroy. While those previous cards do not cost anything either, Life Point cost is rarely a factor when selecting cards. Solemn Strike is a negation and a Warning of sorts in one. This card, along with Warning pairs well with “Guiding Ariadne”, eliminating the cost all-together.

This card may replace one of the previous three cards I mentioned. While some decks could run a ton of negation, and each card has their own positives, this card eliminates the monster, while the others don't. Players like it when they don't have to worry about a monster on their opponents side  of the field.

I get that this card is supposed to be important, but I would still rather have Solemn Judgement back. Don't get me wrong, Solemn Strike is a great Counter Trap. It stops monsters from being. 1500 Life Points is not too expensive for an activation. But, it does not stop Normal Summons. It would stop an on Normal Summon effect, so it has that going for it. I also like the wording, where if multiple monsters are summoned, you can still only destroy one. Right? I believe so. I wish it banished a monster instead of destroying that card. Regardless, this is another good Counter Trap. At the moment, you can run 3, so if you can afford the $60 price tag, pick up 3 and see how many you need against the current decks.

Score: 4/5 I like Solemn Judgement better.
Art: 3/5 I like Solemn Warning better.

First He passed judgement. Then, He gave us warning. Now, God strikes.

With just a payment of 1500 LP, Solemn Strike is perhaps the best of its series. It can negate a special summoning, OR a card activation. The timing in which you activate this card will be crucial, as I have no doubt it'll be restricted to one per deck- unless they ban it altogether due to its awesomeness. And really, I wouldn't blame them if they did, because the negation power of this card is beast. Enjoy it while you can, players.

Score: 5/5
