Crystron Gliongandr 

I hate that when a lot of players first look at cards like Crystron Gliongandr, the first comment that often comes out is, “Aw, it targets. That sucks.” And it’s not that they are necessarily wrong. It’s just not pleasant that this is the state of the game today. Indeed it really is a shame that Glion is essentially a different version of Trishula, except that it targets. 

Putting aside that footnote, however, Glion is a really solid card, and a great option for tuner-heavy decks. Archetypes like zombies, plants, and of course Crystrons will run a plethora of them and can sometimes get stuck with the wrong amount. This is especially true in decks that attempt to summon Trishula. If you have two tuners and one non-tuner at the wrong time, now you can summon Trishula-lite. Since he’s generic, he’s going to have this potential for a long time. A really solid level 9 synchro option, especially in formats where you need to banish monsters in the graveyard. And he’s a lot easier to summon than Crystron Phoenix.

Crystron Gliongandr is an upcoming monster in Raging Tempest that will add to the Crystron archetype. 

Needing 2 or more Tuner monsters, as well as 1 or more non-Tuner, this Level 9 can be made up of several Crystrons. The more monsters used, the better for its effect: banish monsters equal to the number of materials used. If it were “cards” instead of “monsters” the effect would be more beneficial, but it can still clear your opponents field while avoiding any backlash from “when destroyed” effects. Gliongandr will replace itself when destroyed, but you can choose ANY banished monster, even your opponents. Banish a boss monster without a Special Summon restriction and bring it back on your side of the field when Gliongandr is destroyed. You can also destroy your own Gliogandr after doing damage to get this effect and do more damage in the same battle phase.  

To make Gliongandr you can use Quandax for part of the requirement and have only 5 levels to go. With the abundance of smaller level monsters in the Crystron archetype this may be preferable. Crystrons are able to Synchro during your opponents turn. This monster will disrupt their flow, take away cards, and set you up huge for your next turn.

Coming to the Japanese card of  the week, we look at Crystron Gliongandr.  This is a Level 9 Synchro Monster, a Machine and Water attributed, as expected, who is slightly stronger than Phoenix with 3000 attack and defense, and is Synchro Summoned two or more Tuners and one or more non-Tuner Monsters.  If this card was Synchro Summoned, you can Target and remove from play as many Monsters as your opponent controls and/or from their Graveyard equal to the number of Synchro material you used on this card.  That's going to be at least three, making that pay off well in your favor, especially sitting behind the 3000 attack.  This card gives you a Monster when destroyed also, but changes it up a little.  The Monster you get is one that has to have been removed from the game, other than this card.  Said card is Targeted, so remember that, but it can be a Synchro Monster, or whatever else you want.
