Crystron Quandax

What Formula Synchron started, Crystron Quandax continued. However, unlike Formula, Quandax can use his first effect during either the main phase or battle phase. Does this add additional value? Well, in a sense. While it’s quite easy to use quick-play synchro summoning effects during the end of the main phase, thus effectively leading into a big monster as the opponent enters battle, there’s something to be said for using the effect after an opponent declares an attack, thus allowing for potential wasted attacks.

It also shouldn’t go without saying that there still aren’t that many synchro tuners. At the moment, there’s only twelve, and only two that are level 4. And the other, Phonon Pulse Dragon, has big restrictions in his effect. A number of big synchro monsters, namely Phoenix and Quasar, need other synchro monsters to summon, so it’s nice to see more options afforded to us for those. Quandax fills a hole. And he’s a key cog in Crystron that probably won’t be replaced, as he goes into both Phoenix and Gliongandr. And let’s not forget his harmony with yesterday’s card of the day, Bahrastos. Alongside Phoenix, Crystron decks have a lot of great spell and trap removal, and it wouldn’t be nearly as easy without Quandax. This is a solid card.

Hello Pojo Fans,

Crystrons take over CoTD for the rest of the week, starting with Crystron Quandax.

Level 4 Synchro monsters aren't the greatest. If you Synchro Summon this monster, you will get a Crystron monster back once it is destroyed (minus any Synchro Monsters). The ability to use Quandax as a material for another Synchro Summon, and initiate that effect whenever on your opponents turn is much like Yang Zings ability to do the same. Quandax is more useful in the sense that it facilitates further Synchro Summons of better monsters within the archetype.

If running Crystrons, you'll need to make this monster to get to your better Synchros.

As we get into the Crystron cards of the week, we start with Crystron Quandrax.  Not the biggest or strongest Synchro Monster, at Level 4, with 1800 attack and 2000 defense, this Machine is also a Tuner, and is Synchro Summoned with a Tuner and one or more non-Tuner Monsters.  Despite not being the strongest, this card is an integral part of the Crystron Deck, namely to bring out Phoenix.  This card has a Quick effect, that allows you to bring out another Synchro Monster, using material that include this card also, during your opponent's Main OR Battle Phase.  Again, making summoning Phoenix that much easier.  If this card is destroyed by Battle or Effect, you can Special Summon (via target) a Cryston non-Synchro monster from your Graveyard.  The second effect is standard par for the course for Crystron Monsters pretty much, and still a welcome replacement.  But in this case, you really shouldn't get to that effect anyway, having all ready used the first effect.

Rating:  4.25/5  Again, the weakness of the attack isn't a problem.  He's a combo piece, and he really helps get Phoenix to the Field.
