Goyo Chaser
- #HSRD-EN038

1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters This card gains 300 ATK for each EARTH Warrior-Type Synchro Monster on the field (other than this card). When this card destroys an opponent's monster by battle and sends it to the Graveyard: You can Special Summon that monster to your side of the field, but its ATK becomes halved.

Wait.  Is this card a joke?  It's a weaker clone of Goyo Guardian.  Maybe it could've been useful 2-3 years ago, when that card was banned, but why now when it's legal?  Chaser is obsolete out the gate.  Only 1900 ATK (compared to Guardian's 2800) won't fetch you any strong monsters.  The stat boost is situational (as if there's going to be 4 EARTH-Warrior Synchros on the field to power up this card).  One advantage it has is that it can summon the monster it snatches in ATK mode, but it's ATK is halved.  You're looking at an extra 900 damage max.

Look a Synchro Monster!  Goyo Chaser is a Level 5, Earth, Warrior Syncho Monster, with a rather paltry 1900 attack and 1000 defense.  Synchro Summoned by a Tuner and one or more non-Tuner Monsters.  So Chaser gains 300 attack for each Earth type, Warrior Synchro Monster on the Field...except itself, so being alone, he can't even benefit from this effect.  So you're very likely looking at needing a Deck consisting of being able to make those Monsters, and an Extra Deck full of the Synchos to have Chaser benefit from this card.  Honestly, the attack boos at 300 per is pretty negligible, especially since he doesn't even boost himself.  He does have the neat ability of any Monster he destroys by Battle (and sends to the Graveyard) can (not must, but can) be Special Summoned to your side of the Field.  But wait...any Monster you choose has its attack halved.  Effects stay intact though.  He's not taking out much at 1900, and you can always use it to XYZ or Synchro (or even Tribute) for something stronger but he just doesn't have enough going for him.

Goyo Guardian is a great card. So great he has had several followers since his release. Goyo Chaser is a lesser form of Goyo Guardian. While the power boost it can get is good, it'd take 3 EARTH Warrior-Synchro monsters to boost it up to Goyo Guardian's level and Level 5 isn't as easy to make as Level 6. Shrinking the monster's ATK that you bring back from the grave is counterproductive. You want to run over big monsters and then use them to your advantage. Attack mode instead of defense mode off of the Special Summon is useful, but not if the monster's ATK is halved. Goyo could make an 1800ATK monster 900ATK, which would eliminate any real damage it could do.

Goyo Chaser can be useful in taking down useful Level 4 and lower monsters that fall beneath its original ATK. There are plenty of monsters that are useful that this monster can defeat in battle, but the original Goyo Guardian is such a better monster to invest resources in it makes this monster look very outclassed.

So apparently there is Goyo support now. Goyo Chaser still has underwhelming stats. He comes in as a Level 5 Earth Warrior-type Synchro Monster with 1900 Atk and 1000 Def. The attack is low for a Level 5. Even 2200 Atk after the effect boost is low. Warriors have lost some support with Reinforcements of the Army down to 1. He's Synchro, but I might have given him more points as a Level 4 Synchro/Tuner.

Goyo Chaser has two effects. The first one is a selfish 300 Atk boost for every other Warrior Synchro monster on the field. This attack boost can get big in the Goyo mirror match. In general, you might get 600 more Atk. The second effect is that if Goyo Chaser destroys a monster by battle and sends it to the grave, you can Special Summon it with half as much Atk. The only improvement on the effect is that you can hit with the monster if you Special Summon it in Atk position. With Goyo Guardian existing with higher Atk and better effect, this just seems irrelevant.

Score: 2/5 Goyo Guardian exists, this probably shouldn't.

Art: 2/5 I just don't get it.
