Majiosheldon is a rather unremarkable card, but that seems to be the theme as late, doesn't it? Level 3, Water, Warrior, a strange combination for sure, with a paltry 800 attack but a nice 2000 defense. Except in a few off the wall and unconventional circumstances, this card is left as garbage. If you use this card for a Tribute Summon, you can Special Summon it the following turn. It can't be Special Summoned except by its own effect, and you're not allowed to Special Summon from the Extra Deck the turn you use this cards effect. Fantastic

Next up we have Majiosheldon, a card that clear wants to be the new Treeborn Frog, but does Treeborn have anything to worry about? Statwise it is a WATER/Warrior a very strange combination but at least there is a lot of support from both Attribute and Type. It has 800 ATK which isn’t great and 2000 DEF which is very good.

Effectwise like Treeborn it can special summon itself during the Standby Phase, unlike Treeborn you can control multiples and have Spell and Traps. However, it still has too many conditoons. First off you cannot special summon this card except by its own effect. Secondly It can only be Special Summoned if it was Tributed for a Tribute Summon and then if you do Special Summon it you can’t Special Summon from the Extra Deck.

This is clearly designed to try and replace Treeborn Frog is Monrach decks and the like, but Treeborn doesn’t have this many effects which not only cripple it but also your deck.

Overall, play Treeborn, it may be weaker but its conditions aren’t as awful.

Maijosheldon is level 3 water warrior with a measly 800 attack but a sturdy 2000 defense. It cannot be special summoned except by its own effect, but when it is tributed for a tribute summon, during your next standby phase: You can special summon it from your graveyard. The drawback is you cannot special summon monsters from your extra deck during the turn you activate this effect. However, this won't be much of a deterrent as any deck maining this monster will be focused on normal summoning tribute monsters as opposed to special summoning monsters from the extra deck.

The purpose this monster serves is for deck archetypes that tribute summon monsters as their main priority. The first type of deck that comes to mind is Monarchs. This card, theoretically, will allow you to summon a monster only capable of being summoned by tribute, once per turn, without first normal summoning a monster as tribute fodder. This vastly speeds up the potential for power plays as well as boss monster summoning and effects. 

The downside of this is currently within our meta, there are no viable tribute summon archetype decks. Monarchs aren't doing anything noteworthy at the moment and we haven't seen indication that they will be improving in the near future, nor have any other tribute summoned archetype decks been revealed that seem competitive. Maijosheldon is a good card with a good effect, but it just isn't able to serve a relevant purpose at this time.

Today's CoTD is Majiosheldon. A Water, Warrior-Type, Level 3 monster with 800ATK/2000DEF. Majioshldon cannot be Special Summoned, except by its own effect. If this card is Tributed for a Tribute Summon, during your next Standby Phase: You can Special Summon this card from your Graveyard. You cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck during the turn you activate this effect.

This card has a lot more negative that positive going for it...and that doesn't give it a good chance at being very playable. Being a Warrior-Type helps, and a level 3 isn't bad, but its stats aren't up to par with its level. You cannot Special Summon Majiosheldon except by its own effect. When it is used as a Tribute for a Tribute Summon, you can Special Summon it during your next Standby Phase, but can't Special Summon monster from your Extra Deck during the turn you do this. If Majiosheldon is destroyed before you get a chance to use it for a Tribute Summon, it is almost useless to you unless used for removal or cycled back into your deck. Not being able to Special Summon from your Extra Deck during the turn you activate Majiosheldon's effect can be worked around, but why do that when there are better choices?

This could've been the shortest article ever, but I wanted to lay out the details. Three words: Treeborn is better.

Majiosheldon 

Basically, a severely weakened Treeborn Frog with 2000 DEF.  The art even alludes to this.  In a game where your typical beater today is 2400+ ATK, it doesn't matter if it's DEF was 800, to be honest.  I respect Konami's decision to prevent this card from being abused via the Special Summoning restriction, but that restriction also makes this card wayy less manueverable.  Would've preferred a less draconian drawback for this card, to be honest. 

Here are the steps.  Summon this card.  Pray that it doesn't get destroyed.  Wait a whole turn.  Tribute it.  Then wait another turn to get him back.  Then be able to tribute him again for another monster.  Too much involved to net a +1 out of this. 

Majiosheldon looks like a nice, chipper, goodlooking and charming guy with the noble intent of saving frogs from falling astray.  I just wouldn't run him, in any deck.

For the longest while Konami has been messing with a formula that has stood the test of time, and have not had much success with it. That is, they've been meddling with the formula for Frognarchs, or rather, Monarchs. The push seems to be toward using the continuous spell and traps, but those conflict with the Frog "engine" that allows Monarchs to function. That leads us to today's card: Sheldon. Majiosheldon, I mean. He's essentially Treeborn Frog, but key differences exist between them that will determine which prevails. Let's take a look, shall we?

First of all, you can send Treeborn Frog to the Graveyard via the effect of Foolish Burial, Swap Frog or Lavalval Chain, while in the case of Sheldon, you need to tribute it away for it to be able to revive itself. That brings us to our second area of inspection: revivability. Sheldon doesn't care about your Field conditions, but needs to be tributed away to start reviving, while Treeborn requires that your backrow be empty, but will keep coming back regardless of how he's sent to the Graveyard. Thirdly, with Treeborn and Veiler, you can make Formula Synchron, which can be tuned with the Monarchs to summon something even bigger, while this card prevents the use of the Extra Deck.

Treeborn essentially beats it on all fronts Monarch decks care about. However, this card was meant to be used with the Monarch-friendly Spells and traps. Do you think getting access to those make up for this card's shortcomings? Well that's up to you, but I don't think so. And as we all know, you all value my opinion even more than your own. This is a good thing, young ones.

It's pretty obvious what Konami was trying to do with Majiosheldon. If you tribute Majiosheldon (for say a Monarch), then you can special summon Majiosheldon during your next standby phase, just like Treeborn Frog. The benefit here is Majiosheldon can activate his effect while you control spell/trap cards, unlike Treeborn Frog. This allows you to run the new Monarch support, namely Return of the Monarchs.

The problem with Majiosheldon is he can only be special summoned by his own effect. This means that unless you're running Double Summon, you have to set Majiosheldon, wait until your next turn, and then tribute him if he managed to survive in order to start getting your free tribute summons. Even with Majiosheldon's 2000 defense, this is highly impractical, being both slow and reliant on your opponent having no plays to destroy Majiosheldon. If you wanted to play Return of the Monarchs so much that you dropped the Treeborn Frog engine, I would recommend another tribute engine rather than Majiosheldon, such as the mini Chaos Dragons.
