Paladin

Tuesday

Luminous Dragon Ritual I touched on yesterday.  In the simplest terms possible, you need it to play Paladin from yesterday.  It's great in the fact it adds playability being able to be used from the Graveyard as opposed to just the Hand.  I mean, no rating for this.  If you're using yesterday's card, you play this, and that's that.

Cool looking though, I'll give it a 4/5 for art.

We had Paladin of Photon Dragon, so it makes sense to have a look at the ritual card that summons it.  Luminous Dragon Ritual main effect allows you to Ritual Summon Paladin of Photon Dragon if you tribute monsters with a level total of exactly 4. Exact rituals are never good as it hurts their already low playability even more.

However as is common these days this Ritual has a second effect. By banishing this card and monsters with a combined level of 4, you can Ritual Summon Paladin of Photon Dragon from your hand. A nice effect, allowing you to still summon Paladin of Photon Dragon even if this card has gone to the graveyard for some reason.

Overall, both effects do the same thing; allowing you to Ritual Summon Paladin of Photon Dragon but unless you are going to play Paladin of Photon Dragon there isn’t any reason to play this.

Luminous Dragon Ritual

This card has no point outside of a deck using 'Paladin of Photon Dragon'. As far as ritual spell cards go...it's an amazingly well designed ritual spell card. The fact it can be used while in the graveyard...amazing.

The rating below is a reflection of this card in its appropriate deck. This is the kind of thing we need to see as ritual monsters continue on their path to mainstream competitive play.

5/5 in appropriate deck

Baneful

Luminous Dragon Ritual

It's a basic ritual card. It summons a ritual monster. What else is to say?

But with a twist. If you -2 yourself to summon the first Paladin, you get to summon the second one free. It's good to see Konami recognized that without some way to alleviate the cost Ritual monsters are useless, but at the same time it's still not enough. The fact that the Paladin needs to come out of your hand, can make the ratio uneven.

And if you're building a deck focusing on Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon anyway, why distract yourself with such an excursion trying to balance the ratios correctly, so you draw both the Ritual and the Spell.

LDR is “good” for a Ritual Spell. Key word: for a Ritual Spell. But by most other standards, it doesn't meet the mark.

Terrorking A Ritual monster without a Ritual spell is like peanut butter without jelly, or other things that are usually associated with something else not being associated with that something. It's madness, I tell you. Utter madness!

Hello and welcome to Terrorking's card review, dear guppy. Yesterday I told you not to run Paladin, so it's only right that today I tell you not to run its corresponding Ritual spell card.

This ritual spell, however, is pretty good as far as Ritual Spells go. One copy of this card could summon two copes of Paladin using only one monster, then tribute away those two for two copies of GEPD... but that play requires you to throw away 4 cards. This Ritual Spell would be great if it worked for a Demise or a Herald of Perfection.
