Gearspring Spirit, is a Level 8, Dark attributed Machine Monster, with 100 attack and defense. Level 8 requires two tributes, of course. However, you cannot Normal Summon or Set this Monster, and it can only be Special Summoned from your Hand by having only Machine Monsters in your Graveyard. Or, a Machine Monster anyway.

What does it do--not very damn much. It can make the attack of one Monster your opponent controls 0, but only via targeting, and only until the End Phase. This guy is junk, and not even good junk. Collector junk maybe, but that's about it.

Gearspring Spirit is an interesting piece of Machine support. It cannot be special summoned in any other way except through it's own effect first. It has to be special summoned from your hand by having at least 1 Machine-type monster in your graveyard. Once per turn, you can target 1 face monster your opponent controls and make its ATK into 0. You can do this once per turn. Gearspring itself is a Machine, a level 8 one, so you can use Trade-In to get that one Machine in the grave, and get two cards. The big thing about Gearspring is turning your opponent's biggest monster's ATK into mush and running it over. Or you could really make your opponent feel bad and use Limiter Removal and smack your opponent for a whopping 200 ATK!!!! But that's just mean. especially if it ends the game. Gearspring is a decent little monster that does its job well, and can help you draw with either Trade-In or Allure of Darkness, and turn your opponent's monster ATK into goo. The downside is, you are left with a monster with 100/100 for stats on the field, and your opponent looking to really wreck that monster. If you run Machines, try this out in casual play, who knows, it might find a way into your main deck.

Today we are looking at: Gearspring Spirit

“Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must first be Special Summoned (from your hand) by having only Machine-Type monsters in your Graveyard (min. 1). Once per turn: You can target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; its ATK becomes 0 until the End Phase.”

This card is a welcome addition to the TCG machine pool. It gives you a nice way to get over almost anything your opponent left sitting on the field (that can die by battle). In a pinch he also works as discard fodder for Machina Fortress. I think he may be a nice key point toward Machina Gadgets making a light re-appearance to the Meta, even if it’s only temporary. The ability to swing over a Number 11: Big Eye or Mermail Abyssleed can absolutely turn the table in favor of a game for a gadget player. I don’t know about you, but having an answer that doesn’t even take my normal summon sounds pretty good to me.

Here is a quick checklist to see if you should run it:
“Do you run only, or almost only machines? If so then YES! Run him!”

Advanced: 5/5
Traditional 4/5
