Monday

After our Top 10 Countdown, welcome to Dark Paladin's Lord of the Tachyon Galaxy week! I've got a little bit of everything this week, and we open with Mecha Phantom Beast Megaraptor. This is a Level 4, Wind attributed Machine, with 1900 attack and 1000 defense.

Now, when a Token is Special Summoned to your side of the Field, you can Special Summon a Mecha Phantom Beast Token, although said effect can only be used once per turn. As you may be familiar with by now, this card cannot be destroyed by Battle or card effects, so long as you control a token.

Furthermore, you can tribute a Token to add a Mecha Phantom Beast Monster from your Deck to your Hand. Plus, this guy gets a big boost in being a 1900 attacker, oh and you've probably heard this before too, this cards Level is increased by one for each Token you control.

Ratings:

Traditional: 3/5 Even being Wind this card is good here, as is the Deck Advanced: 4/5
Art: 5/5

Today we are looking at: Mecha Phantom Beast Megaraptor

“When a Token(s) is Special Summoned to your side of the field: Special Summon 1 "Mecha Phantom Beast Token" (Machine-Type/WIND/Level 3/ATK 0/DEF 0). You can only use this effect of "Mecha Phantom Beast Megaraptor" once per turn. This card's Level is increased by the total Levels of all "Mecha Phantom Beast Tokens" you control. While you control a Token, this card cannot be destroyed by battle or card effects. Once per turn: You can Tribute 1 Token; add 1 "Mecha Phantom Beast" monster from your Deck to your hand.”

This guy may not seem like much at first glance, but he really is the backbone of most Mecha Phantom Beast decks (Phantom beast). He doesn’t actually summon a token on his own, which hurts his playability slightly, but the fact that he will spit one out anytime a token hits the field (I’m looking at you Scapegoat, Stray lambs, etc.) is pretty good. He also has a fairly cool level manipulation ability and the standard Phantom beast “Can’t touch this” clause while a token is on the field. But, ultimately, it just boils down to his ability to tutor any Phantom beasts from your deck. That ability alone makes him a three of in almost every Phantom beast deck.

This week, we will be covering other cards from the Lord of the Tachyon Galaxy booster set that didn't make the Pojo's Top 10 list.

Today's card will be another member of the airplane fleet, Mecha Phantom Beast Megaraptor.

This Super Rare is a Level 4 WIND Machine with a healthy 1900 ATK and so-so 1000 DEF, however, its effect is very useful and the main reason why, if this deck would to compete, it will see success.

Here is the effect:
When a Token(s) is Special Summoned to your side of the field: Special Summon 1 "Mecha Phantom Beast Token" (Machine-Type/WIND/Level 3/ATK 0/DEF 0). You can only use this effect of "Mecha Phantom Beast Megaraptor" once per turn. This card's Level is increased by the total Levels of all "Mecha Phantom Beast Tokens" you control. While you control a Token, this card cannot be destroyed by battle or card effects. Once per turn: You can Tribute 1 Token; add 1 "Mecha Phantom Beast" monster from your Deck to your hand.

This bad boy has a total of 4 effects and I will break them down for you.

The 1st effect allows you to Special Summon a Mecha Phantom Beast Token whenever you Special Summon a Token. Since this effect is mandatory, it can't miss the timing. Also, take note that it states whenever you Special Summon a Token, not just a Mecha Phantom Beast Token. So you can trigger this off by using Fiend's Sanctuary, Scapegoat, Dandylion/Fluff Tokens, and many other avenues.

For example, let's say I open with Megaraptor and Fiend's Sanctuary. Normal Summon Megaraptor, activate Fiend's Sanctuary, and get a Metal Fiend Token. This, in turn, will activate Megaraptor's effect and Special Summon a Mecha Phantom Beast Token so instead of getting one Token from Fiend's Sanctuary, you get 2. How nice.

The 2nd and 3rd effects is pretty standard among Mecha Phantom Beast monsters. Megaraptor can't be destroyed if you control a Token. This makes its 1st effect give Megaraptor some extra defense, helping it survive to fight another day. Also, it gains Levels equal to the Levels of all Mecha Phantom Beast Tokens. Since Mecha Phantom Beast Tokens is Level 3, each of them will give your Megaraptor an extra 3 Levels per token, allowing it to be Level 7 or Level 10 upon will, giving you access to a wide range of Xyz Monsters.

The 4th effect really ties things together for Megaraptor. Once per turn, you can Tribute a Token and search your deck for a Mecha Phantom Beast monster to add to your hand. Simple yet very effective. It gets even better if you manage to protect Megaraptor. Then you can search for Tetherwolf, Normal Summon Tetherwolf, activate Tetherwolf's effect to Special Summon a Mecha Phantom Beast Token, Megaraptor's first effect will allow you to summon a 2nd Mecha Phantom Beast Token, and both Tetherwolf and Megaraptor is now Level 10. Now you have 2 options: You can easier use Megaraptor's search effect and search for a Mecha Phantom Beast, including another Megaraptor and drop both Tetherwolf and Megaraptor down to Level 7 or simply use both to Xyz Summon a Rank 10 monster like Gustav Max or Skypalace Gangaridai, which is coming out in Number Hunters.

Another option if Megaraptor survives is that you can play a Fiend's Sanctuary, get 2 Tokens, tribute the Metal Fiend Token to search for another Mecha Phantom Beast, and then Normal Summon that to cause some big damage or make a Rank 4 or Rank 7 Xyz Summon.

It brings a lot of consistent power to the archetype and I would even make the argument that Megaraptor is more important for the deck than Hamstrat since Megaraptor is ready to go immediately. With its 1900 ATK, it can even beat Thunder King Rai-Oh in battle by just having a Token on your side of the field, which this deck can handle with ease.

Overall, for anyone playing Mecha Phantom Beasts, this card is very much deserving of its Super Rare status and is a mainstay at 3 copies due to the usefulness and flexibility of its effect along with its very solid Level 4 1900 ATK body.

Traditional Format: 2/5 (It's OKish there but it will be too slow to shine there.)
Advanced Format: 3/5 (While this deck is not top-tier material, if you were to use this deck in competitive play, you would be hard pressed not to run 3 Megaraptor. It's that good. I would even say that, outside of Dracossack having the ability to destroy cards for basically free, Megaraptor is a more important ingredient for the deck than even Dracossack, the deck's boss monster.)

There are my reviews for this week:

Mecha Phantom Beast Megaraptor
WIND/Machine/Effect/Level4/1900/1000

First up this week is Mecha Phantom Beast Megaraptor. From the start Mecha Phantom Beast Megaraptor already has a good point, being a level 4 Machine with 1900 ATK. But that’s not all; his effects are also very good. First off all, when a token is summoned, he special summons another one. While there is a token he can’t be destroyed. Also he has a level increase effect to help get out cards like Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack. But that’s not all, he can tribute a token to search for a "Mecha Phantom Beast".

Like Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack, this card is great, good stats for a level 4 beatstick and loads of great effects and no drawbacks or stupid conditions.

Overall, if you play Mecha Phantom Beasts or just Machines this is a great addition to your deck
