Heraldic Beast Leo is a Level 4, Earth attributed Beast Monster, with 2000 attack and 1000 defense.  He has the nasty effect of being destroyed during the End Phase of a turn he's Normal Summoned, so Special Summon the guy instead.  There are worse drawbacks for 2000 attack Level 4 Monsters after all.  Also, when sent to the Graveyard, you can add a Heraldic Beast from your Deck to your Hand, other than this card.  I like him, he's certainly a welcome piece of support, and even if you do Normal Summon him, you're getting something else from your Deck.

Heraldic Beast Leo ends the week. It does something I really don't like, it self destructs. It does that during the endphase of the turn it was normal summoned. But it does have a very good upside, that whenever Leo is sent to the graveyard in any way, you get to search out any other Heraldic monster from your deck and add it to your hand. Also should you special summon Leo, his self destruct thing does not go off. Leo is a must in pretty much any Heraldic deck build, not just for his search ability, but also he has the most ATK of the regular Heraldic Beasts, at 2000 ATK. If you're using this deck, then you already have this card in there.

Welcome! Today we are reviewing a very cool Heraldic Beast monster. I personally have played with Heraldic Beasts and it’s actually a pretty good deck if it’s built right. So let’s get down to one of the key monsters of this archetype.

Heraldic Beast Leo
Attribute-Earth
Types-Beast/Effect
Level 4
During the End Phase of the turn this card was Normal Summoned: Destroy this card. When this card is sent to the Graveyard: Add 1 "Heraldic Beast" monster from your Deck to your hand, except "Heraldic Beast Leo". You can only use this effect of "Heraldic Beast Leo" once per turn.
ATK/2000 DEF/1000

This monster is easily the best monster to use in a Heraldic deck. It is a 2000 attack beater that destroys itself at the end of the turn that it’s summoned. Now that destruction effect might seem like a bad thing but afterwards you can search out another Heraldic Beast monster from your deck. This monster’s effect also resembles Dandylion because Leo’s effect activates if it’s sent to the grave in any way. This means you can even send Leo to the grave as Xyz material and still get its effect. It is a very good card that can be used in many different ways.

A great way to abuse this card and other Heraldic Beast monsters like Aberconway and Twin-Headed Eagle is to use them with a Lightsworn engine, like the one used in Chaos Dragon decks. I’ve personally tested out this engine and it can make the deck very consistent and pretty fast. Lightsworns can help trigger your monsters’ effects and make the Heraldic monster revival cards live more often. And that’s just one way you can build the deck. There are plenty of other versions of Heraldic Beasts to choose from.

Advanced: 4.5/5
-This card is easily one of the best Heraldic Beast cards. It is really good. The only thing that would make this card better is if it could search out more Leos or if its effect could be activated more than once per turn.

Traditional: 2/5
-Heraldic Beast decks are probably too slow for this format but it’s still not the worst card here.

Art:5/5
-Very nice art. It couldn’t really look much better.

Heraldic Beast Leo
Earth/ Beast/Effect/Level4/ 2000/1000
During the End Phase of the turn this card was Normal Summoned: Destroy this card. When this card is sent to the Graveyard: Add 1 "Heraldic Beast" monster from your Deck to your hand, except "Heraldic Beast Leo". You can only use this effect of "Heraldic Beast Leo" once per turn.

Here we at the end of the week and also back in the past and we return to the bad days of “level4 monsters with high ATK and bad conditions” with Heraldic Beast Leo. Let’s start off with the bad condition, simply you normal summon him; he blows up at the end of the turn. That’s stupid but there is an upside to his bad condition it does allow you to get his second effect.

His second effect allows you to get a different Heraldic Beast from your deck to your hand when this card goes to the grave. Best of all it doesn’t matter how this card gets there, he could be sent from the field, or the hand or even the deck, so the chances of you using his effect are very high. As for his bad condition, chances are he won’t be around for the turn anyway (probably going to be Xyz material) and of course you can always special summon him.

Overall dodgy condition aside this is a very good card and essential for Heraldic Beast decks. Not much good anywhere else.
