#EXCV-EN037

Once you see Junk Berserker's mouth, you can't un-see it.

It's pretty ironic that Junk Berserker is our second level 7 Junk Synchro. Maybe he was supposed to be level 9. But it's too late for that, now. He loses a lot of viability due to sharing the exact same Tuner and level with Junk Archer. Where was this guy a year ago when Quickdraw was still viable?

The only effect you're likely to ever use is his second one. Removing Junk Warrior from play is something you'll never want to do, especially in his own deck. Berserker was actually mistranslated--he doesn't work like Drillroid. He destroys the monster BEFORE flipping it. This means that he can take out Gravekeeper's Spy, Snowman Eater and Ryko without triggering their effects.

Because of this, you'll probably be tossing out your Junk Archer (oh, and Nitro Warrior in Quickdraw) for a much better answer to those cards. Stat-wise, he gets over Stardust Dragon, but that's basically it.

3.5/5
Art: Dat mouth...
Fun Fact: There's a Junk Synchro for levels 5 to 8. Not 9, though...
Tomorrow: Totally not the fifth dragon...

Junk Berserker is just a little too late. If he had been here a year ago when Quickdraw Plants was viable, and the top deck, he would have been much much better.

If he had come out back when the deck was in power, he might have made a difference, waring with Junk Archer for that level 7 spot. Since he is the same level, it is the best thing to compare him to. Archer only temporarily takes care of the threat, while Berserker eliminates it. So you no longer fear the face-down Ryko. But on the flip-side, he cant deal with face-up threats and remove them temporarily, while Archer can.

As it stands however, Quickdraw Plants is no longer competitively viable, and wont bring them back. In a Junk based deck he may have some use, but only slightly so. You'd never want to remove your Junk Synchron to use his effect, and would, again only be good to remove Face-down threats. With Extra deck space so tight, you're more likely to want to have the Junk Archer over this.

Due to this, the card is just a little to late.

Junk Berserker isn't exactly a site for sore eyes. I've never seen anything hold a mace in that position. As Mark Howard stated, that mouth is unforgettable.

As for the card, and it's actual playability, I don't really see much. I mean his "Sasuke Samurai" effect is good, but doesn't make it a card I would run in any competitive Junk Synchron variant.

Though, I have considered using it, I just don't see it fitting into an already tight extra deck. It's ability to climb over Stardust is good, but there are plenty of other, more efficient ways to get around it.

To be honest, the fact that it's level seven and can combo with the newly release Reborn Tengu + Junk Synchron isn't a very game-changing play, because what you pull back with Junk Synchron, be it Doppelwarrior or Ryko, you'll be able to go in to Trishula which is a much better play. Well, that's it for today's "Card of the Day."

2.5/5
Art: Mediocre at best
Fun Fact: I heard TeamAFTK will be posting a JunkDoppel deck on YouTube this week.
Tomorrow: One ugly dragon.

Todays COTD is the cover card out of Extreme Victory. It’s a 7 star synchro monster that requires junk synchron + 1 or more non-tuner monsters. First off lets go over some of the decks this card will see play in. I know it can be played in dopple plants, where junk synchron + ryko + dopple warrior = Junk Berserker. The question is will anyone want to go into Junk Berserker for there 7 star synchro when dopple plants main synchro is Black Rose Dragon, I don’t see it but Junk Berserker does have his uses.

His first effect can be useful if going for game or just dealing some nice damage because most of the time you will be removing junk synchron which has 1300 atk, so this can cut down a Legendary Six Samurai – Shi En to a low 1200 atk or a Stardust Dragon to the same thing. His second effect is also useful as well, Junk Berserker can auto kill a pesky Spirit Reaper, X-Saber Pashuul, or it can kill a searcher such as Giant Rat, XX-Saber Emmersblade, Mystic Tomato ect. without them getting their effects. This card had a mistranslation whereas his second effect works like Mystic Swordsman lv.2 instead of Drillroid, this means Junk Berserkers second effect can also kill Ryko, Super-Nimble Mega Hamster, or Gravekeepers Spy without them flipping. Overall the Summoning conditions limit the card as most decks don’t even run Junk Synchron, but it might be an O.K fit in the extra deck for dopple plants, if you can find the room that is.

Overall 3/5

Brian Before I start, I'd like to thank Pojo for giving me a shot at bringing respectability back to the Pojo CotD.

So today's card is Junk Berserker, a level 7 Synchro monster with stats of 2700/1800.  The effect reads: You can remove from play 1 "Junk" monster in your Graveyard to select 1 face-up monster your opponent controls. It loses ATK equal to the removed monster's ATK. If this card attacks a Defense Position monster, destroy the monster with this card's effect without applying damage calculation.  One thing worth noting, you can only bring it out with Junk Synchron, or a equivilent tuner (ie: Quickdraw Synchron).  Interestingly enough, it's easier to bring out via Quickdraw, but then you probably can't use the attack reduction effect.

When I see a Synchro monster, there are 3 things I focus on:

1.  Stats for the effort to bring it out.
2.  Effect for the effort to bring it out.
3.  Comparison to other similar Synchro monsters.

So with Junk Berserker, let's go down the list...

1.  2700/1800 is very respectable for a LV7.  You can attack over quite a lot, can defend decently in the case of Book of Moon / Enemy Controller, and between Junk Synchron / Quickdraw Synchron, you can get to LV7 easily.
2.  You have 2 effects, one is decent, one is really good.  The attack reduction effect is nice if you need to get over something like a Thought Ruler Archfiend, or a Scrap Dragon.  But the second effect is where it shines.  You destroy the monster without flipping it up.  That means no Ryko, no Snowman Eater, no Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo, and yes...no Penguin Soldier.
3.  How does it compare to Black Rose Dragon (the staple LV7?) Pretty well honestly.  While you don't have the "field nuke" effect, the effect dealing with face down monster's is better.

So is it any good?  It depends on what you are playing it in.  If you are playing Junk-Dopple, you can bring it out pretty easily (Junk, bring back Ryko, special Dopplewarrior from hand) but you might not have room in the extra deck.  If you are playing Quickdraw, it's a viable card in the extra deck, and is obviously better than other Junk-themed level 7 Synchros (Junk Archer, I'm looking at you).  If you have the room in your extra deck and can bring it out, try one.  I wouldn't recommend playing it over Black Rose Dragon, however.  Mass removal is precious in this game, and that is the effect of Black Rose Dragon that makes it what it is, not the "ATK-to-0" effect.

Ratings:

Advanced in a Junk / Quickdraw deck:   3.25/5 if you have the room for it.
Traditional: 0/5 <--- For the record, here is how I grade Traditional.  Does it FTK, or help FTKs?  If no, it's almost always going to be a 0.
Twisted Keyblade

Junk Destroyer is far a great LV7 for Quickdraw/Junk Synchron to abuse with. it's wind attribute also makes it Dark Simorgh Fodder.
2700 Attack is nothing to laugh about, runs over Stardust, Shi En,Dragunity Arma Leyvaten, & can even run over those annoying 3000 beaters with his effect.
Another thing about this guy is his second effect, that kills off Spirit Reaper (now @2 this format), Ancient Fairy Dragon that various people are running
with Dragunitys and Gravekeepers running around. he is medi-core at beast, but still a great synchro monster. Along with those two, knocks out ryko/spy/snowman eater/penguin soldier
BEFORE they flip face-up. Neat huh?

Too bad his gelt got censored, he was looking "beast" (no homo).
Card - 3/5 ;; Space is tight in the extra deck so 1 is beast fitted, though

Aeris

Junk Berserker

The past few formats have not been very kind to Junk Synchron-based decks, as they have been out-sped and out-classed in large part by the dominant decks, such as X-Sabers and Six Samurais. That is not to say some variants have not had success, as Junk Synchron + Doppelwarrior + other tech (usually Chaos Sorcerer) has come to be a major player in the aspiring deck field. However, like a few other decks, it truly shines with T.G. Hyper Librarian, and is not nearly as explosive without. It is ironic to note that the JunkDoppel decks popping up, never actually make any Junk Synchron-based Synchro monsters. For this reason alone, Junk Berserker’s playability will take a significant hit.

For the Traditional format, I have never even heard of Junk Synchron (or Quickdraw Synchron) being used as key pieces to fuel any of their strategies, so it’s safe to say it’s a non-factor here.

The sole redeeming quality Junk Berserker offers to the Advanced format, is to allow Junk decks to have an easier out to Set monster threats, such as Ryko Lightsworn Hunter and Gravekeeper’s Spy. Sadly, Junk Destroyer does a much better job of that while having only 100 less Attack. While Berserker can reduce an opposing monster’s attack, it still falls to all of the common Battle Phase traps (Mirror Force, Dimensional Prison, etc). It is safe to say that the card is outclassed by the current card pool.
