Dark Paladin

#8--XX-Saber Darksoul

XX-Saber Darksoul, a rather unremarkable monster, at least at a glance.  You have a Level 3, Earth attributed monster, who for some reason is a Beast, although Warrior, Fiend, even Zombie might make more sense, with 100 attack and defense.  His effect is very simple, when sent to the Graveayrd (under your control) during the End Phase you can add an X-Saber mosnter from your Deck ot your Hand.

It is very good (and only good) for X-Sabers but it adds speed and new resources, something else that X-Sabers are very good at.  X-Sabers strike me as really weird as an Archtype, overall.  Sometimes they seem to be really popular, and at other times, it seems like no one is playing them at all.  They always seem to be Tier 1.5 or so in my opinion.

#8 is XX-Saber Darksoul, that expensive card you don't have. A super Sangan for X-Sabers, Darksoul can search out ANYTHING. Yes, even Faultroll. But you already knew that, probably. The fact that you can dump and revive this guy to get multiple cards out of your deck. It's a little ridiculous.

Take Sangan. Make it super-revivable. Expand its search to every monster in your deck. Give it tons of support to back it up. This is why XX-Saber Darksoul is what fuels the X-Saber deck, allowing it to sit at the top of the tier list, and top 8 stuff. Bla bla bla. More X-Saber propaganda.

4.5/5
Art: It's only a Beast because Rescue Cat wanted to have more fun before its ban.
Fun Fact: There are 10 each of X- and XX-Sabers.

The Legion

Card number 8 on our countdown is XX-Saber Darksoul. Darksoul is essentially the backbone of the once proud Saber Dynasty. He’s a super searcher on crack who allows you to add any Saber from deck to hand during the end phase of the turn he’s sent to the Graveyard from the field. Anyone who’s played Sabers (or played against Sabers) knows that a good Saber player can re-reuse Darksouls to the point that they’re pulling around three cards to their hand during the end phase, which is broken hand advantage in and of itself. Add the fact that Darksoul is easy fodder for Synchros like Hyunlei or Gottoms, and you’ve got a pretty amazing engine on your hands. Darksoul’s seen some decline since the fall of the mighty Sabers, starting when their Cat got shot in the face with the ban hammer that fateful September, but he still remains a treasure for those who refuse to give up their beloved Sabers and run GK’s or Samurais. All in all, I think Darksoul was a very important card of the year simply because of his ability to create an amazingly consistent engine for a very powerful deck.

Puppet Master
The Legion

If you’ve ever wanted to see a broken search card, Darksoul’s your man… Chihuahua thing. This card has one of the most broken searching abilities to date. With the ability to search during your End Phase for each time this card is sent (well, before the ruling at least), this card can single handedly bring you every card needed to win in almost any situation. One of the reasons I loved this card so much is the fact that you could bring XX-Saber Faultroll to your hand even though he’s a six star. Most searchers can only bring levels 4 and lower, but not this mean little puppy. This card also makes mean synchro combos when used with XX-Saber Fulhelmknight. Overall, I think that this little card gave XX-Sabers the push they needed to really become the top deck that they were.

Traditional: 4/5 (This format still has the kitty)
