Pojo's Yu-Gi-Oh Card of the Day

Elemental Hero Ice Edge
#STOR-EN098

When this card inflicts Battle Damage to your opponent by a direct attack, you can select 1 Set card in your opponent's Spell and Trap Card Zone, and destroy it. Once per turn, during your Main Phase 1, you can discard 1 card to allow this card to attack your opponent directly this turn.

Card Ratings
Traditional: 1.80
Advanced: 2.60

Ratings are based on a 1 to 5 scale
1 being the worst. 3 is average. 5 is the highest rating.

Dark Paladin

Elemental Hero Ice Edge...We haven't looked at an Elemental Hero in ages.  Ice Edge is a Level 3, Water attributed Warrior.  All of these are good things, while Water and Warrior are ridiculously supported (though not usually together.)  Our Hero has 800 attack and 900 defense.

Now, by discarding one card from your Hand, Ice Edge can attack directly.  When Ice Edge inflicts Direct Damage to your opponent, you can destroy a set Magic or Trap cad your opponent controls.  This seems really simple, and more or less like a waste of time.

I disagree...Ice Edge may not be the best card (our Elemental Hero) on his own, but he's a great combo card.  See, your opponent is either going to take this direct attack and lose a Magic or Trap card, or be forced to use one to stop or destroy said attack/monster.

Now, what Decks can really use this?  Likely Ice Edge won't be on the Field more than a turn, (I'd say a couple could even be a stretch.) but it could be enough.  Lightsworn, Gladitor Beasts, and obviously the Heroes themselves can make use.

Elemental Hero Ice Edge is an OCG import from the GX manga you didn't read and instead threw out immediately after pulling out your Absolute Zero, but I'm sure you at least recycled it. This guy doesn't do much.

His direct attacking thing is cool, but you have to discard a card, and when he destroys that Set card, you won't have gained anything. Amazoness Sage does the destroying better, so the only reason to run this weak card is to have an alternative to Elemental Hero Ocean or *shudders* BUBBLEMAN! When Ice Edge doesn't do much at all, you'll probably want the much stronger Ocean and his power to pull out cards from the graveyard.

2/5
Art: When he grows up, he's Raigeki.
Fun Fact: Leave Dark Magician Girl alone.
Tomorrow: A 5D's Elemental Hero-ish archetype.

Hey everyone, happy Valentine's Day! And what better way to celebrate than by reviewing Elemental Hero Ice Edge, who's as cold as ice! Okay, all lame Foreigner puns aside, this card is actually not terrible. It's just... No one uses e heroes any more. Ice Edge has absolutely pathetic stats, but he essentially trades a -1 to the hand for a small jab at your opponent's lp, and destruction of one of their m/t's. His stats are low enough to ensure he won't be around for more than one turn, so he's probably not worth the trouble. Though until we get Heavy Storm back, extra m/t hate is always helpful. Who knows, maybe someone will find a place for this wayward hero.

Elemental Hero Ice Edge is a long awaited card for TCG players. His stats are bad, but he makes up for that by having a useful effect and fitting into a great deck. Any time he hits directly, your opponent loses a spell or trap. That's pretty powerful, and when combined with his second effect, he can pick away at their back row until they take him out. The discard cost hurts, but if you're able to get the attack through, you're making a one for one trade with Ice Edge's destruction effect.

Ice Edge's best use would be in Absolute Zero decks, as he fulfills the requirement for an Elemental Hero OR a WATER monster. With Absolute Zero slapping down their monsters, Ice Edge can help get the spells and traps out of the way. Ice Edge also can fit well into Big City decks, as he gets under Gravity Bind and Level Limit - Area B, though his destruction effect is slightly less important here since you're relying on Wildheart to do most of your work.

Overall, Ice Edge is still a weak monster who can't do a whole lot. It's probably best to keep him within his themes where he will be supported, or you're likely better off using a different monster.

Traditional: 1/5 No E-Heroes here.
Advanced: 2/5 Fits nicely in viable deck, but not much else.
Art: Ice Edge is reaching out to slap your opponent directly.
