Underrated Cards Version 2.1012021349
By:WiCkEd

August 30, 2005

                         By: WiCkEd

Alrighty, hey guys! I may not have many articles out this week due to the fact a friend of mine crashed my computer and I’m reformatting it, plus school. So here I am on my mom’s computer! Basically, I’m expression more underrated cards (in my opinion of course) and how they could work well in the metagame. Onto the first card!

Mystic Swordsman LV4

You all should know what he does. If not, look him up. Simple enough. Now, with the growing popularity of the Spiritual Art-Earth, Water, and possibly Fire for you burner fans, this card can have some very techy advantages.  Sacrificing him would mean you could possibly return a D.D. Assailant, Pyramid Turtle, etc. He can also be retrieved by the Art as well, which DOES NOT set him facedown. Very convenient   His stats are 1900/1600, which are VERY good despite the downside of him setting himself facedown upon Normal Summon.  Also notice, with 1600 defense he can be a decent defender against Don Zaloog, D.D. Warrior Lady, and Tsukuyomi-rape your opponent may want to attack or kill it with. Then, you have his secondary effect of “if I kill something I’m killing it without effects activating”. Very enjoyable. Honestly, I’ve tried teching this card and it works VERY well (7/10 games it worked out), you may try it and not like it, its all dependant on your metagame and such.

Abyss Soldier (dedicated to Ben The Great)

Abyss Soldier? Who is Abyss Soldier?

Well he’s a Whale man of course. His effect is what makes him particularly interesting. For the simple discard of one Water monster you can bounce ANY card on your opponent’s field to their hand. Now, supposing Sinister Serpent isn’t banned, you would obviously use this as tech. I wouldn’t recommend more than 1 outside of a Water deck. Oh, you think his effect has a downside in his stats? It doesn’t. He’s a solid 1800/1600(I think 1600) beatstick. His uses are limited in the case you do not have Sinister early game, but, in play testing he turned out to work most of the time (6 out of 11 games).

Magical Explosion

Hmm…this is not for any old deck. It’s more or less for an OTK/FTK deck BASED around it. I’m sure some of you have seen it and have dismissed it as crap when you open it and see it in your CRV packs. Really, it isn’t crap. It’s another OTK material card. For those of you whom enjoy the Cyber Dragon OTK/FTK or enjoyed Magical Scientist OTK/FTK you would enjoy this. I’ve ran an OTK/FTK based on this and let me tell you, it works like a charm. I’ve ran one for two weeks at my local shop (eh…they let me use CRV early) and it has won consistently with an overall 16/18 games won that its played. Try it out for yourself, you may enjoy, it you may not.

D.D. Trap Hole

Alas! The main card I wanted to review. It’s yet another one of the Trap Hole series card and, like Bottomless Trap Hole, its well worth playing. So for some reason let’s say you have Scapegoats/ D.D. Assailant and your opponent sets a suspicious looking Morphing Jar/Big Shield Gardna/D.D. Warrior Lady, ETC. You flip this, remove their set card from play, and then simply remove one on your side one monster on your side of the field. Using D.D. Survivor with this is synergy to the max yo! I’ve tried this card vaguely, I’ve had mixed feelings on it overall. Personally, if you feel your Bottomless is not working, then try this. SJC/Regional/National wise…I wouldn’t count on using this card (it’s an overall 2 for 1).

And thus my small article finishes. So you all know, these are cards that have proven solid in my play testing and my local metagame. They may not work for you, but it solely depends on how you interpret the card to your advantage. What may work for one of you may not work for the other, for instance: Jae using double Decrees may not work for Evan Vargas since his deck can’t solely benefit from it (it could Evan, I’m just saying. XD). So with that, I leave you. With luck, I’ll have another article out later this week…time to go work on my computer. XD.
