Deck Fix: Skill Drain Beatdown
July 20, 2005

Hey everyone, I'm back for the second time this week.  As an added spoiler for you all, shortly, we'll have a new little treat for you all coming from the staff. A very entertaining read that will be. = ).Also, before I begin, I wanted to say I'll be doing a "How To Construct : XXXXXX Deck" for Friday. Just you you all know on that. Anyways, unto the deck.

BeatdownT (Tom)’s Skill Drain/ Stall Deck

Total: 40

Monsters: 16

Goblin Attack Force x2

Giant Orc x2

Jirai Gumo x2

Archfiend Soldier x2

Zombyra the Dark x2

Mystic Swordsman LV4

Mad Dog of Darkness

Mask of Darkness

Armor Exe

2 x Berserk Gorilla

Spells:11

Smashing Ground

Snatch Steal

Lightning Vortex

Premature Burial

Axe of Despair

Mage Power

Swords of Revealing Light

Pot of Greed

Graceful Charity

Brain Control

Scapegoat

Traps: 13

Trap Hole

Skill Drain x3

Draining Shield x2

Negate Attack

Threatening Roar x3

Waboku

Magic Cylinder

Ring of Destruction

The purpose of my deck is to either draw skill drain on my first hand and use it right away to take down the opponent quick with the high attack monsters, or if I don’t get a skill drain I use my stall traps/swords to stall my opponent until I can get my skill drain. I would really appreciate if someone could help me with this deck to make it much better. Thanks, BeatdownT.

            HAHHAHA! Time to begin.

-1 Armor Exe

+1 Mask of Darkness

Reasoning: Sadly to say, Armor Exe does NOT work with Skill Drain, its effect is a cost. Therefor, we're ditching it for a more supportive Mask of Darkness. One is by FAR too few. You'll  need two, and I think you know that, so I'm adding a second. = )

-1 Mystic Swordsman LV4

-1 Mad Dog of Darkness

-2 Archfiend Soldier

+2 Fusilier Dragon, the Dual Mode Beast

+1 D.D. Warrior Lady

+1 Breaker the Magical Warrior

Reasoning: MSLV4, Mad Dog, and Archfiend dropped indefinately, they did NOTHING for this deck except for beatstick-ness in the wrong way. Having not effects in a Skill Drain deck is the wrong way to go about it. Fusilier is added since he STAYS at 2800 after he's special summoned via his effect and Skill Drain is out. Thank Skill Drain for that. D.D. is added for Aggro, never use her whilst Drain is active, but in early game when struggling for Drain, this is the girl to use. Breaker is the same thing, plus an amazing topdeck, plus Magic/Trap removal. Use him. = )

-1 Axe of Despair

+1 United We Stand

Reasoning: Obviously, this is the equip card to use instead of Axe of Despair. More advantage equals more to do on the field. Axe is just a "meh" card outside Ben Kai/Kei decks. You already know the advantages of United, I should REALLY have to explain. = P

-1 Brain Control

-1 Trap Hole

-1 Negate Attack

-2 Draining Sheild

-1 Waboku

-3 Threatening Roar

-1 Magic Cylinder

+2 Nobleman of Crossout

+1 Mirror Force

+1 Torrential Tribute

+1 Heavy Storm

+1 Mystical Space Typhoon

+1 Call of the Haunted

+1 Smashing Ground

+1 Wave-Motion Cannon

+1 Delinquent Duo

Reasoning: WOW. Sorry, That was a ton in one shot. Here's a quick explanation of why I eliminated most Traps: they were holding the speed factor of the deck by tons. Seriously, with this fix your deck gets a major speed boost, monster and magic AND trap removal, not to mention an overall competitive look and feel.  The traps were almost ALL -1 advantages, which is NOT good. Threatening Roar, Draining Shield, Negate Attack, etc. All -1 advantage, this is bad. So I'm changing that. Adding Nobleman of Crossout was a major thing for this deck. Early game when Skill Drain isn't present what are you going to do to kill monsters? Nothing? Crossout changes that. Hmm...I added tons of Magic staples, obviously, those need no explanation. Another Smashing since you aren't using Tribe-Infecting Virus. Delinquent Duo for hand advantage and killing resources. Wave-Motion Cannon to gain an early lifepoint lead. Not much else to explain elsewise.

The final copy is...

2 x Fusilier Dragon, the Dual-Mode Beast

1 x D.D. Warrior Lady

1 x Breaker the Magical Warrior

2 x Goblin Attack Force

2 x Giant Orc

2 x Zombyra the Dark

2 x Jarai Gumo

2 x Mask of Darkness

2 x Berserk Gorilla

2 x Smashing Ground

1 x Snatch Steal

2 x Nobleman of Crossout

1 x Heavy Storm

1 x Delinquent Duo

1 x Pot of Greed

1 x Graceful Charity

1 x Swords of Revealing Light

1 x Mage Power

1 x United We Stand

1 x Lightning Vortex

1 x Premature Burial

1 x Scapegoat

1 x Mystical Space Typhoon

1 x Wave-Motion Cannon

3 x Skill Drain

1 x Call of the Haunted

1 x Mirror Force

1 x Torrential

1 x Ring of Destruction

TOTAL: 40 CARDS

Thus concludes my Skill Drain deck fix. This is the competitive, and perfect build for a Skill Drain deck. If you ever intend to use one, I highly recommend using this model, its built amazingly. Of course, every deck has its flaws, the Skill Drain deck flaw is the main lack of removal since normally Tribe-Infecting Virus is not used. This deck should do fine BeatdownT. Hope you all enjoyed my fixes. Friday I'll have an article out for you to read. = )
