Deck Fix: Horus Control
June 16, 2005

Hey hey hey guys! Once again this week, I've got another fix up! By the way, I encourage you all to send me your decks, I'm running low on them! Be original! Be creative, and for the most part, please don't send me any CCCC decks, Chaos, Chaos Variants, etc. Its annoying AND I WILL NOT FIX THEM. So, onto the deck!

Dear Josh, my name is Alex. I’m 16 years old and am in need of your help. I want to strengthen my Horus deck. I’m trying to prepare for a Yu-Gi-Oh! tournament coming soon to play some strong duelists. I’ve never entered a tournament before and am very nervous. Here’s the thing. My Horus control, can’t control. How can I make this deck better? I’ve been working very hard to make this right. I just need a little push in the right direction. I want to get Horus lv8 out ASAP to start the control so I can go for the win. Any advice will be great. I’ve sent my deck into pojos previous Rj’s deck Garage, but unfortunately never go a response. I’ve even tried posting my deck in forums but still no dice.

Thank you Josh, pojo.com, and all the readers. Go Horus!!!

Well, let's begin with dropping you to 40 cards, so let's drop...A Horus The Black Flame Dragon LV4.

First, we're going to drop the Marauding Captains, Mystic Swordsman LV2 and 4, and the Attack Forces. They really don't fit the control theme, so having them around may have been what your trouble was. We're going to add:

+2 D.D. Assailant

+1 Spirit Reaper

+2 Magician of Faith

+2 Apprentice Magician

+1 Tsukuyomi

Reasoning: Captains basically drain and rape you of a hand, so those we're dropping. MSLV2 is more of a sidedeck card, so you can add him in there. MSLV4 is just too difficult to use, since MSLV2's effect doesn't morph him. The Attack Forces are too open to trample, and are actually weak despite 2300 attack. Adding in 2 Assailants basically gives you the field, you kill everything they have, and should the attack an Assailant they just lost a monster to rid you of one, D.D. Assailant basically CONTROLS the field. Spirit Reaper, is great for tribute fodder, and a wall, but he is vulnerable to trample, so we'll fix that in the coming section. Magician of Faith and Apprentices are self explanitory, Apprentice searches out Faith, Faith revives controlling Magics not to mention Apprentice provides counters for Breaker.. Tsukuyomi adds to the reuseability of Magician of Faith.

Onto the Magic and Trap line-up.

First, drop a Book of Moon, 3 is overkill.

+1 Enemy Controller

Reasoning: Controller, although with its loss of power, is still very much worth running. It provies some field advantage and possible control. Also, sacrificing a Goat to steal a BLS-Envoy for a turn isn't bad = ).

-1 Creature Swap

-1 Brain Control

+2 Nobleman of Crossout

Reasoning: Well, for the matters of originality, I want you to keep in Swords of Concealing Darkness, and to make sure you're getting FULL use of it, we're adding two Crossouts. They provide field control and advtange, and you're maximizing the potenial of a few cards in your deck, very good.

Lastly, drop Lightning Vortex for Torrential Tribute, due to Lightning Vortex not being as worth it as one would expect. How often than not do you waste Vortex (and a card from your hand) to kill 2 monsters, then find out next turn that they were only Chaos food? A lot I'm guessing. Ditch it, Torrential Tribute is by FAR better, plus...it's common >_>. Torrential provides destruction of all monsters on the field, which, may seem bad, but lets reflect: You have 1 monster that basically ensures you lose if Envoy comes out, they have 2, and summon Envoy, you Torrential a 2 (your monster and Torrential) for 3 trade off, that really isn't bad considering it turns the game in your favor.

Alright! So there's the fix kids! Hope you enjoyed and hope my competitive changes worked out for you! My next article will actually be an article on the construction of a Spirit Deck, yes, Spirits and just how competitive they can be.  Enjoy kids, KEEP SENDING DECKS!!!
