The Cage: Deck Formulae
By: WiCkEd

12.20.05

Right, hey guys. I took 2 weeks off simply for the break…and I’ll be around for the holidays with an article occasionally if time permits. For the most part, I wish you all a Merry Christmas, Kickin’ Kwanza, or Happy Hanukah. If you celebrate anything else, I hope it goes well.

Anyways, the point of this article is to take a conventional deck, mold it into something better than the usual mold you are all used to seeing.  I’ll be breaking the deck down piece by piece and showing you (from the core) how each individual piece can alter the way a deck works as a whole.

Breaking the Mold: Picking a Deck

What deck will we use in this article? I’m going to work with Fiends. They were the first deck I began with, and they are a stunning example of versatility. Onto the deck’s base.

Base (noun) 1.) - the basic part of an object, specifically, a deck of cards in our situation. 2.) - something basic, like, yeah, basic.

            BASE OF DECK: Dark Necrofear
SECONDARY FUNCTION: Return From the Different Dimension
            DECK COUNT: 41
            RATIO: 17-19-5

Explanation of the base? The base of our deck is Dark Necrofear.

How will the deck function? By the use of Return from the Different Dimension this deck will utilize Dark Necrofear’s removal and turn it into field advantage

What does the Deck Count mean? This is simply the number of cards that will be included in the deck itself.

What does the Ratio mean? This is the amount of MONSTERS-MAGIC/SPELL-TRAP cards you will have in the deck. For this deck, I have found that this variation of ratio works better than others.

Field advantage (noun) 1.) – having control of the MONSTER ZONES in the field of Yu-Gi-Oh, having more monsters than your opponent, or having more chainable MAGIC/TRAP cards. This has various explanations, it all depends on interpretation.

The Monster Line-Up

Obviously, we will be using Dark Necrofear; however for this build we will not be using her in the conventional doubles. We will use a single copy; however, we will accent more removal by using one Strike Ninja in this deck.

1x Dark Necrofear- two ends up in too much clutter as of lately. Play testing two with the following builds lead to horrid top decks. If you wanted, you to, I suppose you could use two. I do not recommend this.

1x Strike Ninja- Well, after seeing WHY the European players used this as tech I have decided that with the ever growing reason to run it, it would fit quite fine into a Fiend deck. Especially given the way we are using this one. To me, Strike Ninja is a better Dark Necrofear, since it feeds off of Darks, but does not require a specific type.

Next, we have to realize the staples for this deck. Which naturally are D.D. Warrior Lady, Breaker the Magical Warrior, Sangan, and Magician of Faith.

1x Sangan- The searcher, a Fiend, versatility in a hand basket. Also a Dark. He’s fairly cool when it comes to being a monster card.

1x D.D. Warrior Lady- Although neither a Dark nor Fiend, she fits the removal theme. Also she provides removal that is REQUIRED to gain field presence in the game.

1x Breaker the Magical Warrior- He’s a Dark, which helps Strike Ninja do his job. He provides a strong beatstick when coming out at a solid 1900, and doubles as MAGIC/TRAP removal when his counter is removed (thus dropping him to 1600 ATK). All around an amazing card.

1x Magician of Faith- Magician of Faith herself provides advantage through recycling. Given the fact that she is neither removed by Nobleman of Crossout nor hit by a Mystic Swordsman LV2 she provides a versatile way to gain advantage.

How else do we accent the Fiend side of this deck? Simple. We’re going to add in two Newdoria, one Goblin Elite Attack Force, and one Dark Jeriod.

1x Goblin Elite Attack Force- He’s a nifty beatstick with attitude…and defense, unlike his counterpart. We’re running him to provide an immediate attacker that change to a defender.

1x Dark Jeriod- He’s both Fiend and Dark. He also is a nice bit of tech when it comes to gaining advantage on the field. Although he may not be able to kill something with his effect, he can change a 2400 or 2100 attacker into a 1600 or a 1300. I find this good. Very good.

2x Newdoria- Newdoria is much like D.D. Assailant in a few ways. Specifically because of his ability to kill something when he is indeed, killed. He’s both Dark and Fiend, once again, food for either Necrofear or Ninja. He is VERY cool when Return from the Different Dimension is used, for he can return, suicide, and take something down, thus giving you the possibility to go direct for a win.

We’re currently sitting at ten monsters, we need seven more, and those seven are up next.  I’ll be using two copies of D.D. Assailant, one Mystic Tomato, two Spirit Reapers, and two Mobius the Frost Monarch.

2x D.D. Assailant- Of course of course! I’m not using this because it is one of the best monsters in the game :sarcasm:. Honestly, not using Assailant in this deck would be stupid. He is SOLID removal, and a nifty beatstick. Using this bad boy with Return from the Different Dimension is also very cool when going a win.

1x Mystic Tomato- He’s some cool tech for using up those Fiends. He’s Dark (Ninja fodder). I find using him early on is one of the sexiest things ever.

2x Spirit Reaper- Solid blocker. Opponents will often find themselves wasting Snatch Steal on this thing just to get it off the field. Also, supposing you are in an all advantage situation, you could attack direct with it, pick from hand, and possibly screw up a plan. Need I mention he too is a Dark?

2x Mobius the Frost Monarch- A deck like this has field presence so Cyber Dragon is not immediately needed, it can be used though. I find using this after bringing out Jeriod, lowering attack, then tributing for Mobius is a sure shot plan for advantage. Mobius is neither Dark nor Fiend, but a solid choice for this deck as a whole.

I want everyone to remember: This is not the average Fiend deck, it is TECHED, it is COMPETITIVE, and it is expensive to build given you are not on a huge budget. It DOES work, it DOES win tournaments.

                                                The Magic and Trap Line-Up

Typically, for this deck, I would show you my line-up, and, I will. I won’t hold secrets back. Let’s move along.

            AUTOMATIC CARDS

1x Dark Hole- Obviously the best form of monster removal out there. Stapled.

1x Heavy Storm- Obviously the best form of Magic and Trap removal. Stapled.

1x Snatch Steal- Take your monster and tribute it for mine. = ) Stapled.

1x Mystical Space Typhoon- chainability + Magic or Trap removal = hot.

1x Book Of Moon- You already know. Versatility in a box.

1x Scapegoat- 4 for 1. Nifty If I ever did see.

1x Nobleman of Crossout- Removal. Could be mass removal. Depends. Either way, kickass card.

1x Premature Burial- Revival at the cost of 800. You know me likey.

2x Smashing Ground- Removal. It’s always sexy to destroy a defender that has pissed you off for a turn or so.

1x My Body as a Shield- 1500 LP for the possibility of keeping field presence? I think so. Especially in this deck.

1x Enemy Controller- You already know.

1x Giant Trunade- Simply because you do not hold Mystical Space Typhoon or Heavy Storm in your hand does not mean you cannot remove Magics or Traps from the field. This is bouncy, and often sets up for a win.

1x Swords of Rev. Light- Yep.

1x Brain Control- Gain control for a win. Only 800 lifepoints cost…rentsy.

1x Wave-Motion Cannon- Alternate win condition.

1x Creature Swap- Swap for stuff you need, give them Tomato. Hot.

2x Return from a Different Dimension- Key. This can open up a WORLD of hurt for your opponent. Use this to cripple your opponent. Cost is of no matter.

1x Call of the Haunted- Revival. Very much so worth it.

2x Widespread Ruin- Removal. Kills off those Cyber Dragons if they come out early. This is ALWAYS good.

Here you all have the deck. I broke it down for you, I showed you how everything benefits another. Now, my request to you: If you enjoyed me doing this, I will continue doing it upon request. SEND IN WHAT YOU DID LIKE OR DID NOT LIKE, AND IF YOU WANT ME TO KEEP DOING THIS
