Razorblade Kiss: Fixing the Spellcaster Deck
By: WiCkEd
11.28.05

Alrighty guys, I’m here dropping in for another article. I’ve also got one thing to say regarding the new Spellcaster Structure deck: sexy. It’s pretty hot. Common Breaker, along with the sexy ultra rare that probably won’t see competitive play, but I’ll be playing him casually. Anyways, with the added sexiness of the Spellcaster Structure, we’re fixing a Spellcaster deck today. I know, you’re all thrilled, let’s move along.

Hello WiCkEd,

My name is Jacob Hill and over the past two or three years I've built a lot of crappy decks.
I’ve had a crappy wind deck, Dark Paladin deck and an even crappier Chaos deck.
I however have finally built a deck that can win but it still cant beat some of the better built decks.
I need and thank you for your help.

Jacob Hill

1.) Deck List
Main Deck = 40

Monsters = 18
1 Jinzo
1 Chaos Comand Magician
3 Skilled Dark Magician
1 Breaker the Magical Warrior
1 Silent Magician LV 4
2 Apprentice Magician
2 Old Vendictive Magician
1 Summoner of Illusions
1 Injection Fairy Lily
1 Magician of Faith
1 Tsukuyomi
1 D.D. Warrior Lady
1 Exiled Force
1 Spear Dragon

Magic = 11
1 Dark Hole
1 Heavy Storm
1 Mystical Space Typhoon
1 Book of Moon
1 Nobleman of Crossout
1 Pot of Avriace
1 Snatch Steal
1 Premature Burial
1 Metamorphosis
1 Swords of Revealing Light

1 Magical Merchant
1 Cybernetic Magician
2 Magical Marionette
1 Wave Motion Cannon
1 Rapid Fire Magician

Fusion Deck = 20

1 Dark Blade the Dragon Knight

2 Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon

2.) Its a Spellcaster Deck
3.) I have 40 Cards in my deck and Hope to Keep it as low as Possible. But if it works larger than Go For it.
4.) The Basic Stratagy is to Hit Hard and As Often as Possible. Try to bring out Heavy Hitting Fusions.
5.) Format is Advanced
6.) The Name as Mentioned Before is Jacob Hill of Camas Washington.
7.) My Budget is anything.

Thank You for your time reading this E-Mail even if you decide not to fix it.
Have a nice day and thank you for the great articles.
Your fan Jacob Hill

First thing I want to say: WOW! You actually FORMATTED the email correct. For that alone this kid gets some cool points. You kids these days…always making me surprised. Anyways, time to tweak the monster line-up.

-1 Jinzo
-1 Chaos Command Magician
+1 Dark Magician
+1 Mobius the Frost Monarch

Reasoning: Well, I have no idea whether not you wanted Dark Magician, or not, thus, I will assume you wanted him. Anyways, going the Dark Magician route we’d add one (to make Skilled Dark Magician actually use its full potential) and a Mobius to deal with Magic and Trap issues. Jinzo you could add to the side deck, Chaos Command Magician you could side or remove completely (what I would do).

-1 Skilled Dark Magician
-1 Silent Magician LV4
+1 Morphing Jar
+1 D.D. Assailant

Reasoning: 3 Skilled Dark Magician is overkill. In general, 3 of almost anything is overkill (the exceptions being DDA, Cyber Dragon, etc.). A lone Silent Magician LV4 isn’t going to help much. Adding Morphing Jar can turn the game in your favor by replenishing your hand. D.D. Assailant is removal, and removal is always good my friends.

-1 Summoner of Illusions
-1 Spear Dragon
+1 D.D. Assailant
+1 Enemy Controller

Reasoning: Summoner of Illusions is great in a deck based around it, or something more focused towards Fusions. Remove it for another Assailant (more removal). Spear Dragon itself had no major place in the deck to begin with. We’ll be adding Enemy Controller to cut down the monster count, and to use its 1 of 2 advantages to your favor.

-1 Metamorphosis
-1 Array of Revealing Light
+2 Smashing Ground

Reasoning: Metamorphosis, to be frank, is horrible in this format. Array of Revealing Light is just a card that fits the theme if this were to be a casual deck. Adding 2 Smashing Ground is providing immediate monster destruction and advantage.

-1 Trap Jammer
-1 Royal Surrender
-2 Waboku
-1 Magic Cylinders
+1 Scapegoat
+1 Giant Trunade
+1 My Body as a Shield
+2 Dust Tornado

Reasoning: Trap Jammer and Royal Surrender aren’t amazing cards. We’re ditching those for two Dust Tornadoes, which is giving you more Magic/Trap destruction. Wabokus you could sideboard, in place of those we’re adding in Giant Trunade and Scapegoat. Both of which will provide field presence and cause disruption given the situation. My Body is a replacement for Cylinders, mainly due to the fact if you were to get Dark Hole’d this would save the monsters you but effort into getting unto the field.

FINAL DECK:

1x Dark Magician
1 x Mobius the Frost Monarch

2 x D.D. Assailant
1 x Morphing Jar
2 x Skilled Dark Magician
1 x Breaker the Magical Warrior
2 x Apprentice Magician
2 x Old Vindictive Magician
1 x Magician of Faith
1 x Injection Fairy Lily
1 x Tsukuyomi
1 x D.D. Warrior Lady
1 x Exiled Force

1 x Enemy Controller
1 x My Body As a Shield
1 x Giant Trunade
1 x Scapegoat
2 x Smashing Ground
1 x Dark Hole
1 x Heavy Storm
1 x Premature Burial
1 x Snatch Steal
1 x Nobleman of Crossout
1 x Pot of Avarice (why I kept this in here, I have no clue)
1 x Book of Moon
1 x Mystical Space Typhoon
1 x Swords of Revealing Light

2 x Dust Tornado
2 x Magician’s Circle
1 x Torrential Tribute
1 x Call of the Haunted
2 x Sakuretsu Armour

TOTAL: 40

There you go kids. If I say so myself, this deck looks mighty sexy to toy around with. I might just build it myself. Keep those decks coming.
