Venus (In Our Blood): Archfiend Deck Fix
By: WiCkEd
10.27.05

So, as promised I am doing a deck fix this week, I possibly will try for another but there are no guarantees! Also, I've decided on an Archfiend deck, a personal favorite...here was the e-mail sent in:

Wicked, Would you please consider doing a fix for my Archifiend Deck? It is a standard Chess-Piece Archifiend build, utilizing Great Maju Garzett as the heavy hitter. I also run to Vilepawn Archfiends to protect my monsters from being attacked (kinda like Soul Absorbing Bone tower, where two on the field at one time provides an attack lock.) I have 4 archfiends that are 3 or less stars so that I can keep the field full, despite having monsters destroyed on field. I also utilize Medusa Worm for field control.

This is the card listing:

Tribute Monsters (3)

Skull Archfiend of Lightning

Great Maju Garzett

Non-Tribute Monsters (16)

Please help me make this deck more effective while trying to keep it ban list compliant and in theme.

Thanks, Profnewell

_________

Well, I'll just assume you'd want this competitive...so let's work a little magic and keep it competitive without the annoyance of Cyber Dragons and such.

            -2 Great Maju Garzett

            +1 Skull Archfiend of Lightning

Reasoning: Maju Garzetts have always rubbed me thw wrong way due to their vulnerability and/or lack of summonability. Skull Archfiend of Lightning atleast has a defense not to mention a definate attack, and it gives the search function via Pandemonium, so that's quite sexy itself. I also subtracted a card completely to drop the card count to 41.

            -1 Desrook Archfiend

Reasoning: Lowering card count to 40...

            -1 Pandemonium Watchbear

            -2 Medusa Worm

            +1 Breaker The Magical Warrior

            +1 D.D. Warrior Lady

            +1 Magician of Faith

Reasoning: Pandemonium Watchbear is sort of meh, so it dropped. Medusa Worms are good, yes. Mainly in a Rock deck though. For field control I added in Breaker for obvious reasons, D.D. Warrior Lady for actual removal, and Magician of Faith for Magic/Spell recycling.

            -2 Vilepawn Archfiend

            +2 Dekoichi the Battlechanted Locomotive

Reasoning: For some reason, even with Pandemonium Archfiend decks seem to be slow...this will eliminate that completely...go speed.

            -1 Axe of Despair

            -1 Checkmate

            -1 Falling Down

            +1 Dark Hole

            +2 Smashing Ground

Reasoning: This deck was generally low on removal. It also had a few Archfiend-reliant cards, thus by removing those we add in solid removal for the deck. This should help eliminate the monsters on your opponent's side of the field and help you get more attacks in successfully.

            -1 Negate Attack

            -1 Trap Jammer

            -1 Magic Jammer

            -1 Alter for a Tribute

            +2 Sakuretsu Armor

            +1 Dust Tornado

            +1 Scapegoat

Reasoning: Negate Attack provides no true advantage outside delay of attack, Trap Jammer itself is FAR too situational, Magic Jammer isn't needed nor is Alter for a Tribute. Adding 2 more Sakuretsu Armor basically gives more removal and attack prevention from D.D. Assailants and Cyber Dragons. Dust Tornado is M/T removal, and Scapegoat is field presence:

FINAL COPY:

2 x Shadowknight Archfiend

There you have it kids, a possibly competitive and viable Archfiend deck, I'm sure you'd need to technically tweak it more, but it's fairly sexy as it is. Enjoy.
