Dark Maltos's Dueling Dome
Dueling Instinct

January 13, 2006

Hey guys, im back desperately trying to get a submission to the Dueling Dome before Friday. This spectacle is focused on the Dueling Instinct.

Dueling is a reflection of our personalities , how we behave either consciously, or subconsciously, much like a man‘s weapon is an extension of himself . We duel in reflection of ourselves, and add cards to our decks that reflect the human nature. Of course, this is complicated.

Since the dawn of time, certain human instincts have shaped the world , for example the will to succeed. No one wants to be a failure regardless of what they might say. That is why human’s are drawn to power like a moth to a flame. Cards like Dark Hole are put in because people crave power , and can view it’s success when used masterfully.

Another human instinct that presents itself when creating a deck is the idea of uniformity. No one wants to be different, unless they have compulsive need’s for attention, another factor that affects the deck build. People like that are the kind that insist on using abstract cards and demand the focus of other Duelists for the use of those cards. ( These are the kinds that turn up with a Blue eyes deck and yell at the tops of their voices when they summon one) . Still, these Duelists follow some sought of Uniformity. A card that everyone uses automatically becomes a card that has to be used, regardless of deck type. It’s this compulsion that forms the CC. No one wants to be different, or feel excluded from others.

Other cards that reflect human nature are cards like Royal Decree or Dust Tornado. Both traps are used in self defense against the unknown. This fear has caused much dispute and sorrow throughout history. But Royal Decree is a double - edged card in terms of human instincts. I t also reflects the desire everyone has to be in control of a situation, and keep things under control. These ‘ Safety net’ cards are found in every deck, in many different forms. Cards like Enemy Controller or Book of Moon for instance.

Cards like Morphing Jar represent the human nature to consume, and greed. Humans always want more, and will never be satisfied. That is indisputable.

Cards like Spirit Reaper and Scapegoat , and even to a certain extent Pre - Mature Burial represent the fear of Death. No one besides the Suicidal welcomes death and humans will do whatever it takes to avoid that sacrifice. This again is a fear of the unknown.

Pre - Mature burial also represents the human ideal of defeating death, and the greed of having a second chance.

DD Warrior Lady and Exiled Force represent nobility. Making the ultimate sacrifice for the greater good.

Snatch Steal and the like represent jealousy. Wanting something because someone else has it.

If you look at it carefully , every card has it’s own reason for being used that can be expressed by human nature, but the primary Instinct that drives people toward dueling, regardless of all others is the animal instinct of violence and destruction. Over our brief time period on this earth we have revelled in destruction and torment. Every animal has an instinct to survive, but humans have taken that one step further, we have developed the instincts to fight. Duelist duel to relive and release that animal desire to be superior . Every Duelists goal is to be the best, but people take different routes. Some take the path of uniformity, and hope to rise above their peers by learning from hem. Others charge at the game with all their might to try and go against the flow. It’s just a question of following your instincts.

Till Next Time !!!!
