Monday - Relinquished / Black Illusion Ritual

MRL-029 Relinquished
Spellcaster Ritual Effect - Level 1 - 0/0
This monster can take on the ATK and DEF of 1 opponent's monster on the field (a face-down monster results in an ATK and DEF of 0). Treat the selected monster as an Equip Magic Card and use it to equip "Relinquished". You may use this effect only once per turn and can equip "Relinquished" with only 1 monster at a time. When your opponent's monster attacks this monster with an attack higher than "Relinquished", the equipped monster card is destroyed instead of "Relinquished". Any life point damage you receive from the attacking monster when "Relinquished" is equipped is also inflicted on your opponent.

MRL-051 Black Illusion Ritual
Ritual Magic
This card is used to Ritual Summon "Relinquished". You must also offer monsters whose total Level Stars equal 1 or more from the field or your hand as a Tribute.

Relinquished is a very cool old-school Monster. But obviously, times have changed, and many cards that were once playable are now trash. Although Relinquished still maintains his position as one of the easier Ritual Monsters to Summon.

As we all know, Summoning Thousand Eyes Restrict via Metamorphasis or Magical Scientist is much more efficient than having to Ritual Summon Relinquished. Not to mention that Thousand Eyes Restrict also sets up a stasis on the Field.

Not much else to say about Relinquished, it's card that everybody should own, thanks to one of the Starter Decks. And for that same reason, Relinquished is an often abused Monster in Sealed deck tournaments.

Rating:

Constructed - 2/5
Limited - 3.3/5 (In Sealed deck tournaments of course, it's very hard to pull him and his Ritual out of a Draft)

The reports of my Demise have been greatly exaggerated…

This card has been and will probably remain a pain in the arse. Now of course, there are a variety of cards that can stop a ritual magic in its tracks. But in this case you are not sacrificing much to play the ritual. And of course, you can always MST the absorbed monster. Relinquished has been reviewed before, and is nothing new really. There are still cards to search him out, and he can still be destroyed, just not as easy as a normal monster. Though semi-outdated, he is still annoying if he gets out at the right time.

Casual: 3.5

Wow, I haven’t done a COTD review since… like… September or something…

Longest… Hiatus… EVER

Anyways, to the card of the day…

That = long effect… but that’s ok.

Well.  I’ve never used this card before, although I have used its bigger, better, badder brother, Thousand Eyes Restrict… I still run one in my deck… actually, I don’t even OWN one of these cards (or a polymerization for that matter… I use a poor-man’s fusion technique… long story, suffice to say I’m still good at inventing legitimate combos, despite the fact that I haven’t been following the game since oh… Labyrinth of Nightmare)…

Right, so now you know that I know nothing about the current metagame… but that’s ok, because I can still give my two cents on cards.

I like this card.  Simple as that.  I like letting my opponent summon a strong monster and then taking it out from under their noses.  On top of that, to destroy it they have to catch this guy “naked” to destroy it.  On top of THAT, if they do get it “naked”, they will proceed to destroy their OWN monster and inflict damage on their OWN life points first.

I don’t know the current metagame, but I still know that that’s damned good.

Oh, did I mention that you have to play the ritual card AND sacrifice a monster first?  As much as it sucks to have to have the ritual card, you have to sacrifice all of one-star worth’s of monsters… and that’s a pittance compared to the kick-ass monster you’re about to get onto the field.  Oh, did I also mention that (unless I’m TOTALLY behind, in which case, I quit) its also a special summon?  This card rocks.

4/5 – the highest rating I feel I can give because I don’t know how it stands against the current game

***TO CLARIFY***

you can NOT use "contract with the abyss" with relinquished and zorc in the same deck.

onto the review...

Sorry for the absence, been busy with school and homework, but anyway, relinquished, a powerful ritual. First off, rituals and lvl 7+ fusions are never good (other fusions can usually be brought out via scientist). However, relinquished got a *little* better with the release of contract with the abyss, with this you can play relinquished and masked beast in the same deck, using only 3 copies of a ritual, for a fun deck of course. Onto Relinquished itself, the effect is very powerful, and deadly if used correctly. The ability to "suck" your opponents monsters, especially tomatoes, jinzo, etc, is invaluable.

Tourney - 3.0 if you can build a decent deck

Draft - 1.0 have fun with no ritual card, unless you started with the SDP of course.

Artwork - 3.5 - mid air

Closing Line - SUUUCK IT!!             ...and attack.
