Tips & Manners for Yu-Gi-Oh Virtual Desktop: Is It Time to Duel?

            Ah, I suppose I made several mistakes on Zombie fix.  Book of Life IS resolved and you Special Summon your chosen monster even if targeted opponent’s monster is removed from graveyard before the resolution of Book of Life.  I was assertive because I never checked the modified ruling. Thanks to Junior and Masterdramon (Kevin)! Oh, and the final decklist should have card count of 45 X_X my mistake. 

Over the Thanksgiving break, aside from consuming an alarming amount of turkey, gravy, carrots and pies (no carrot pies…never heard of one), I also dueled with YVD.  Consequently, I encountered numerous diversities of people online.  Some are incredibly nice, some are mean-spirited in a way, and I try (I’ll explain..). 

I decided to cover YVD, since it is one of the most useful resources for the duelists for learning.  There are actually two parts of it; IRC and YVD.  First, I’ll cover the basics of YVD.

 YVD is a program that you can download for free from Internet.  Just Google it, and you will see the direct link.   

After finishing downloading, when you launch the program, you will see three buttons: Chat, Duel, and Settings.  Duel leads you to database and you may build your deck there.  Chat launches n00b-IRC (yeah, that’s the name of the program), an inferior version of IRC just for the YVD.  It is still good, except that it freezes once every….30 minutes?  Ask your dueling pal to give you mIRC, possibly MatricIRC (boy, that one was cool). flupScript’s comes with tournament organizer, which is useful, dueling management, and other stuffs which I’ll cover later.   

Once you start building your deck, you’ll see that you don’t have Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys, as well as Dark World cards.  What the heck?  You have to download additional (free!) data and images, possibly complete set, and you are good to go.  Make sure you check this link for additional data and images: 

When you download it, you have a few decks built for you.  They are bad…delete them or keep them just for the heck of it.  On the right side of the database, you will see a format box.  Click on the small arrow, and click “advanced.”  Although there are a few traditional duelists, most of them use advanced format.  I suggest you use advanced, since all tournaments use advanced format. 

Are you done?  Cool! Click save, and type in your deck title.  You may load it anytime, but be careful not to click load when you are trying to save or vice-versa.  I lost a deck that I perfected (or attempted to) for about a month.  It isn’t so cool.
