																	As we walk
																	through life
																	bonds form
																	and break.
																	Ones we
																	trust remove
																	that trust
																	and others
																	fix it.  Yet
																	everyday
																	brings new
																	things.
																	Some days
																	your
																	teammates
																	accuse you
																	of stealing
																	your friends
																	deck and
																	trying to
																	steal their
																	newly won
																	Shrink
																	card.  But
																	days before
																	you were the
																	best of
																	friends.
																	One day the
																	world seems
																	in order,
																	the next we
																	notice that
																	chaos is
																	abound.
																	Nonetheless
																	everyday
																	offers us
																	insight into
																	the future
																	and helps
																	shape us to
																	become a
																	slightly
																	better
																	person.

																	Wow, I could
																	not believe
																	the number
																	of people
																	who offered
																	to give me
																	back the
																	cards I
																	lost.  I
																	appreciate
																	all the
																	support and
																	am glad to
																	know that
																	good people
																	still exist.

																	But as we
																	all are too
																	aware of,
																	this world
																	is
																	developing
																	into a dog
																	eat dog
																	situation.
																	The fact
																	that people
																	are stealing
																	cards and do
																	act in such
																	a manner in
																	the Shonen
																	Jump
																	tournament
																	scene brings
																	up
																	the unanswerable
																	question,  Why?

																	The only
																	philosophical
																	response to
																	this
																	question is
																	why not?
																	But to
																	answer a
																	question
																	with a
																	question
																	does not
																	fulfill in
																	answering
																	the
																	question.
																	(IF YOUR
																	STILL
																	FOLLOWING
																	ME) the game
																	of yugioh
																	(in America
																	at least) is
																	going to
																	fail.  It is
																	not going to
																	be the
																	result of
																	the TV show
																	giving us
																	random
																	E-Hero
																	support.
																	Yu-Gi-Oh's
																	downfall
																	will not be
																	the end
																	result of
																	bad sets.
																	But the
																	gamers are
																	what will
																	destroy this
																	game.  As
																	mentioned in
																	my last
																	article,
																	Yu-Gi-Oh is
																	drawing a
																	crowd of
																	players that
																	for lack of
																	a better
																	word can be
																	described as
																	thugs.  My
																	mom teaches
																	inner-city
																	kids and is
																	noticing
																	Yu-Gi-Oh
																	cards
																	flaring up,
																	she tells me
																	stories of
																	how the kids
																	fear others
																	will steal
																	their cards
																	.  They
																	avoid tournaments
																	or playing
																	the game in
																	general due
																	to the fact
																	their cards
																	are
																	treasures.  Stealing
																	is becoming
																	part of this
																	games
																	culture and
																	for some
																	students to
																	lose cards
																	in such a
																	manner is
																	devastating.
																	I witnessed
																	in Boston
																	players from
																	all walks of
																	life arguing
																	an engaging
																	in an
																	environment
																	that many
																	parents
																	responded to
																	as horrid.
																	Yesterday I
																	received
																	numerous
																	e-mails from
																	concerned
																	parents who
																	now question
																	if their
																	children
																	should be
																	involved in
																	this game.

																	Such worry
																	should
																	occur.  Why
																	no one has
																	taken it
																	upon
																	themselves
																	to point out
																	how poor
																	tournaments
																	all across
																	the nation
																	are
																	apparently
																	ran is
																	beyond me.
																	Why were no
																	guards or
																	authoritative
																	figures
																	present at
																	the Shonen
																	Jump?  Why
																	is the
																	robbery that
																	occurs
																	looked at as
																	passive?
																	Why do I
																	need to
																	expect
																	thieving to
																	happen upon
																	going to a
																	tournament?

																	Has the
																	world gotten
																	to the point
																	that fun can
																	not occur
																	unless
																	someone else
																	suffers?

																	Such
																	behavior
																	will deter
																	parents,
																	without
																	parental
																	support
																	how can this
																	game
																	marketed to
																	children
																	thrive?

																	I think we
																	all should
																	call UDE out
																	on this.  I
																	believe that
																	we should
																	make it a
																	point.  I
																	agree that
																	of all the
																	issues which
																	exist in the
																	world,
																	yugioh
																	tournaments
																	are way on
																	the bottom
																	of the totem
																	poll, but
																	the stuff
																	that occurs
																	is similar
																	to other
																	issues that
																	plague our
																	society.

																	I also must
																	point out
																	that the
																	reason for
																	such
																	behavior comes
																	from
																	society.

																	 While there
																	I was
																	talking to a
																	judge who
																	made an
																	evident
																	point about
																	how players
																	steal cards
																	b/c they
																	assume
																	that such a
																	vile act is
																	the only way
																	they will be
																	able to
																	build strong
																	decks.  Is
																	this what
																	Yu-Gi-Oh has
																	come to, a
																	thugs game.

																	People who
																	play this
																	game, who
																	really spend
																	time and
																	play this
																	game love
																	it.  I know
																	it sounds
																	corny and
																	weird, but
																	we have
																	developed a
																	special bond
																	with it.
																	Growing as
																	individuals
																	both in
																	integrity
																	and
																	character.
																	This game
																	opens doors
																	into the
																	realms of
																	understanding
																	the human
																	intellect
																	and the
																	human
																	spirit.  For
																	some it
																	offers a way
																	to develop
																	friendships
																	and special
																	bonds.  For
																	others it is
																	something
																	accessible
																	that they
																	can use to
																	forget about
																	the quarrels
																	of the REAL
																	WORLD, as my
																	dad makes
																	evident
																	every day.
																	We love this
																	game and
																	should use
																	it for what
																	it was
																	intended to
																	be.  A way
																	for people
																	(OF ALL
																	AGES) to
																	have fun and
																	be social.
																	Players and
																	parents
																	alike spend
																	too much
																	time and way
																	too much
																	money (add
																	up those 4
																	dollar
																	packs) for
																	it to die
																	out as a fad
																	especially
																	due to
																	un-honest
																	people.

																	I have come
																	to a
																	conclusion.
																	While
																	preparing to
																	go to Boston
																	my mom was
																	worrying
																	about the
																	flight, big
																	city, etc.
																	MOM STUFF.
																	She talked
																	about 9/11
																	and all that
																	jazz.  I can
																	understand
																	why and I
																	know why
																	parents care
																	so deeply
																	for their
																	children.
																	But the odds
																	of anything
																	bad
																	happening
																	were slim
																	and the
																	plane did
																	not crash.
																	I'm alive,
																	etc.  But
																	had a person
																	stood up
																	with a gun
																	threatening
																	to crash the
																	plane I
																	thought (I'd
																	charge).  I
																	can never
																	understand
																	why people
																	just sit
																	back and
																	give into
																	their
																	demise.  If
																	your going
																	to die, why
																	not fight.
																	After all
																	there would
																	be more
																	people on
																	the
																	plane who
																	did not want
																	to die.
																	People who
																	did not want
																	to crash.
																	But some
																	philosophers
																	talk about
																	people being
																	sheep.  We
																	just want to
																	be lead.  I
																	find that is
																	wrong.  I
																	have began
																	to notice in
																	my travels
																	that there
																	are more
																	good people
																	than bad
																	people.
																	More people
																	are willing
																	to help than
																	not.
																	Society has
																	it implanted
																	into our
																	heads that
																	upon exiting
																	the house a
																	meteor or
																	terrorist is
																	going to get
																	us.  But all
																	we seem to
																	focus on is
																	the bad.
																	Things that
																	suck should
																	be changed.
																	A lot of
																	e-mails I
																	got were
																	from people
																	saying they
																	never want
																	to go to a
																	jump.  My
																	reasoning is
																	this, if I
																	ever get a
																	shot
																	(especially
																	a free one)
																	to go to
																	another I
																	will/would
																	go.  As
																	people we
																	should not
																	let the bad
																	ones stop us
																	from doing
																	what we
																	love.  To
																	give up on a
																	dream or to
																	give up on a
																	game (etc.)
																	b/c some
																	people act
																	disrespectful
																	would be
																	wrong to
																	ourselves
																	and wrong to
																	others.  I
																	have fans
																	(as weird as
																	that is to
																	write) for
																	me to quit
																	would break
																	their
																	hearts.  It
																	would show
																	that when
																	the game
																	gets hard
																	give up.  If
																	things are
																	going bad we
																	change
																	them.  People
																	I want you
																	to go to
																	tourny's.
																	Talk to
																	people.
																	You'll find
																	that even
																	the guy with
																	bull horns
																	on his head
																	is a nice
																	guy.  There
																	are more
																	good people
																	than bad.
																	More good
																	than bad.
																	Do not focus
																	on the bad,
																	use it as an
																	experience
																	to make the
																	environment
																	better.

																	I must also
																	restate that
																	I appreciate
																	all the
																	offers to
																	help me get
																	back my
																	cards.  But
																	so many
																	people
																	offered to
																	help.  So
																	many it
																	makes me
																	cry.  I'd
																	love to get
																	my cards
																	back, but so
																	many of you
																	offered to
																	help.  Thus
																	it makes me
																	feel kind of
																	wrong to
																	accept such
																	a generous
																	offer.  But
																	sense so
																	many of you
																	want to help
																	I can help
																	you help.

																	Currently I
																	give a lot
																	of cards
																	away to
																	younger
																	players at
																	local
																	shops.  It
																	hurts me to
																	see the
																	little kid
																	go 0 and 7
																	or 0 and 3
																	(depending
																	on the
																	tourny)
																	every week
																	cause he is
																	running
																	random
																	stuff.  I
																	give them
																	some advice,
																	usually a
																	bunch of big
																	beaters,
																	etc.  I tell
																	their
																	parents what
																	structure
																	decks to buy
																	and am
																	always
																	getting rid
																	of left over
																	commons.  I
																	give them to
																	my mom and
																	she uses
																	them as
																	prizes in
																	her class.
																	(Crap holos,
																	commons,
																	etc.  to a
																	kid with
																	nothing they
																	mean
																	something)
																	And I was
																	thinking.

																	Sense so
																	many of you
																	offered to
																	give me my
																	Armed Dragon
																	Lv. 10 and
																	other rare
																	cards, you
																	want to
																	help.
																	People just
																	don't offer
																	to give you
																	such a rare
																	card and not
																	want
																	something in
																	return.  But
																	so many of
																	you offered
																	to help.
																	I'm one who
																	believes all
																	things
																	happen for a
																	reason and
																	if Boston
																	did not
																	happen this
																	would not be
																	posted.

																	Thus I have
																	found a way
																	for you all
																	to help me
																	and help
																	make a
																	statement
																	about what
																	yugioh is
																	about.  I
																	would like
																	anyone who
																	offered to
																	send me my
																	missing
																	cards to
																	send any and
																	all cards
																	they feel
																	they do not
																	need (crap
																	holos,
																	commons, whatever
																	you want to
																	part
																	with) to the
																	following
																	address.

																	Coach Thomer

																	4323 Glenway
																	Ave,

																	Cincinnati
																	OH, 45205

																	that is my
																	mom's school
																	address.
																	She teaches
																	in the CPS
																	(Cincinnati
																	Public
																	School)
																	system and
																	as mentioned
																	teaches
																	students who
																	play
																	Yu-Gi-Oh.  Her
																	students
																	fear losing
																	their
																	cards.  A
																	lot of them
																	have
																	experienced
																	theft, in
																	some
																	fashion,
																	thus whenever
																	they bring
																	their cards
																	to school
																	they don't
																	play out of
																	fear that
																	someone will
																	steal their
																	valuable
																	cards.  This
																	whole Boston
																	event has
																	made me
																	realize that
																	the reason
																	for this
																	behavior is
																	due to it
																	being
																	acceptable
																	among
																	players.  My
																	mom's
																	students
																	don't say
																	anything
																	about it
																	because
																	frankly they
																	have nobody
																	to tell.  (Kinda
																	like the
																	whole Shonen
																	Jump scene)
																	If we have
																	an issue we
																	go to the
																	source.  I

																	  have decided
																	that a
																	Yu-Gi-Oh
																	club or a
																	Yugi meeting
																	would be a
																	great way to
																	educate the
																	students not
																	only
																	etiquette of
																	the game but
																	how to
																	actually
																	play it
																	(some use
																	the cards in
																	War.  Like
																	BEWD trumps
																	Summoned
																	Skull by
																	500?) For
																	those of you
																	who offered
																	me help send
																	your cards
																	to that
																	address.  So
																	many people
																	wanted to
																	help and I
																	think the
																	best way to
																	help is not
																	to help me
																	but to help
																	the
																	problem.  I
																	recommend
																	that all of
																	us make it a
																	point to
																	help players
																	at our local
																	tournaments
																	and our
																	local
																	schools as
																	well.  Thus
																	we can give
																	other
																	players
																	reason to
																	behave in
																	acceptable manner
																	as well as
																	making a
																	strong
																	statement.

																	I would also
																	like some
																	letter from
																	those of you
																	who
																	participate
																	in this
																	"drive" (I
																	assume this
																	is what you
																	call it)
																	explaining
																	why you are
																	giving up
																	these
																	cards.  For
																	appreciation
																	and thanks
																	should be
																	understood.
																	Not everyday
																	you just
																	give up
																	cards.  To
																	help people
																	understand
																	we need to
																	let them
																	know that
																	sacrifice is
																	sacrifice.
																	Often I have
																	found myself
																	saying
																	"Altruism
																	gets you
																	crucified"
																	but altruism
																	also
																	demonstrates
																	more.  If we
																	behave in a
																	manner to
																	better us
																	all, then we
																	should have
																	no reason to
																	fear other
																	people.  As
																	long as a
																	world exists
																	in its
																	current
																	fashion it
																	will only
																	get worse if
																	we do not
																	make an
																	effort.
																	Once again I
																	understand
																	Yu-Gi-Oh to
																	be a small
																	speck on the
																	universal
																	lenses of
																	meaning, but
																	it is a
																	subject that
																	encompasses
																	all aspects
																	of life.
																	There is no
																	way you can
																	argue
																	against this
																	b/c people
																	involve
																	themselves
																	with it.

																	For those of
																	you who do
																	participate
																	I would love
																	to place
																	your names
																	at the top
																	of my
																	articles.
																	At least in
																	some small
																	way this
																	will allow
																	others to
																	know that
																	not all
																	people
																	accept the
																	hubris
																	mentality
																	that
																	encompasses
																	this game
																	and this
																	society.

																	I would also
																	like to have
																	the students
																	write you
																	all thank
																	you notes
																	back as
																	well.  A
																	part of
																	learning is
																	learning to
																	be
																	appreciative.
																	If we can
																	teach them
																	the work and
																	time it
																	takes to
																	build decks
																	then maybe
																	they will
																	learn the
																	importance
																	and value
																	people place
																	on their
																	things.

																	Someone with
																	nothing can
																	not know
																	what having
																	something is
																	like.

																	So send any
																	extra cards
																	("JUNK" or
																	whatever) to
																	that
																	address.  My
																	mom will
																	receive the
																	mail
																	personally
																	from the
																	school, so
																	do not worry
																	about if she
																	or I will
																	get the
																	info.

																	I thank all
																	of you for
																	your time in
																	helping to
																	resolve this
																	issue.  I
																	thank all of
																	you for
																	participating
																	in anyway
																	(send me
																	cards or
																	just help
																	locals).

																	But this is
																	an education
																	issue.  We
																	should
																	e-mail UDE
																	about the
																	issues and
																	quarrels we
																	have with
																	the tourny
																	scene and we
																	should try
																	to help.

																	I thank you
																	all once
																	again for
																	hearing me
																	out.

																	Any
																	suggestions
																	of your own
																	are
																	appreciated.

																	-Hopefully
																	we can
																	resolve this
																	issue in
																	some minute
																	way.  I
																	apologize
																	for not
																	actually
																	having
																	articles,
																	but they
																	will be
																	back, I
																	promise.
																	Hard not to
																	do them
																	cause every
																	minute I got
																	a new deck.
